Are there rules that determine what academy players Wegians can use? Do they have to have played a certain amount during the regular season?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,186 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Think academy players can play with out restrictions even in playoffs. Contracted players for sivision 1 have to play a specified amount to play in playoffs

(iv) Provincially Contracted Players are not permitted to play in the League play-off

    (v)

IRFU Nationally Contracted Players may only play in rounds 1 to 14 of Division

1A and 1B of the League in exceptional circumstances and then only with the approval of the National Competitions Committee.

    (vi)

In the event of an IRFU Nationally Contracted Player being granted permission to play in a League or Cup match then only five Provincially Contracted Players may play for that club.

    (vii)

    (viti)

IRFU Foreign Contracted Players may not play in the All Ireland League.

Players deemed as Development Players by the IRFU may only play in Divisions

1A-2B of the League. They cannot play in Division 2C.

    (ix)

No more than two such Development players can be listed in any AIL match day squad in Division 2A or 2B.

    (x)

No Development player may play in the promotion/ relegation matches between clubs in Division 2B and 2C

    (xii)

    (xiii)

Academy contracted players may play in the League and Cup without restriction

Nationally or Provincially contracted players may not play in the Bateman Cup if a

great crowd attendance wise for nure Lansdowne long time since I seen a crowd that big for an ail game

  • Registered Users Posts: 812 ✭✭✭Hey boy

Is Shannon dropping v the 4th placed team in 1B not a huge surprise? I was surprised by this and by the margin of defeat especially at home.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,551 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

I watched cork con and clontarf as only game i had time to watch all weekend, and it was an absolute cracker. I'd highly recommend tuning into the final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,867 ✭✭✭Red Silurian

I was surprised but in fairness I don't thing the quality is much different between the bottom of 1A and the top of 1B, with the obvious exception of St Mary's College who ran away with the 1B title. Shannon won just 5 games all season, I suspect the morale was low going into the game

I'm just about to walk down to dooradoyle.

    I am presuming a 14.30 kick-off

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Good win for Corinthians. Did any of the academy players stand out to you? I think Bryan Walsh in the second row is still in school.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,186 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Corinthians totally deserved the win. Once the game settled down and they got enough ball there was only going to be one winner Nash, Barrett, Walsh, flynn very good. Naughton was superb.

Cork Con hanging onto a lead at half-time praying, praying they win. The league needs terenure to lose.

hard to see Terenure lose this now.

    Cork Con discipline is appalling.

terenure were awful against 14 men. Against 13 for a while and I think against 12 at one point too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,466 ✭✭✭✭phog

Yes, just heard Marcus interview Johnny Holland and it sounded like they were down to 12 for a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,053 ✭✭✭hold my beer

Terenure just couldn't exploit their numerical advantages. Con defence was great, the try saving tackle in the corner was unbelievable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 336 ✭✭luke9311

unlucky chico flores! james taylor was excellent throughout the whole game….. kinda questionable how nure country capitalise on a 3 man advantage at one stage and put the game to bed. But cons defensive was super throughout tbh specially the cover tackle on phillips in the second half. Hard not to see a few players call it a day from either side after todays final…..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 911 ✭✭✭Norrie Rugger Head

Don't know what was said during the week but Con's defense was a bit porous, last week.

    Great result for the league

Would they be better off with a smaller stadium for the final? A crowd of 7,000 odd looks pretty sparse in the Aviva

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 911 ✭✭✭Norrie Rugger Head

They did that before, in Athlone, and it was crap.

It's not a provincial competition so the province stadia are non runners.

I've played in Lansdowne road (hate marketing names), with a few hundred there and the acoustics are fantastic. Sounds so loud

I imagine playing in lansdowne is a huge occasion for the players and their families.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,186 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Not at all. These are the highlight and most prestigious club competitions and deserve to be showcased on the main pitch of our national Rugby stadium. There isn't enough club finals played in the aviva. The terenure crowd were great. Lower crowd than I thought from Con but the attendance is irrelevant and can be built on.

Having the women's final as a curtain raiser was good though disappointing crowd for that game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭StormForce13

The womens final was a cracking game; but I presume that both teams were missing their best players after yesterday's 6Ns match - which seems a shame for both the players involved and the league itself.

Nure's poor discipline in the second half (I missed the first half) was utterly dreadful; from what I saw, Con richly deserved the win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,186 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

WWas in the ground but saw f all of both games...

Yeah both teams missing players because of 6 nations. Shame as you say for players, the clubs and league.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,724 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

great result for Con, played well with 14 and even 13 , thought Nures half backs not great

curious to why result better for league, think nure only won it once ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 911 ✭✭✭Norrie Rugger Head

Only Con have won it, outside Dublin, since 2010.

The league is concentrating in Dublin and that's not good for grass roots

A superb win by Con, well deserved. It was a bit of a bottle job by Terenure, Egan as a make shift 10 didn't help matters either. De Buitléar was a huge loss for them. Thought Con's entire pack was superb, albeit discipline was very poor at times. Terenure's line-out was shambolic for majority of game & their maul defence was very poor too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,273 ✭✭✭Stainalert

Well done Cork Con on a really gutsy performance and a great season. It was a super game and I really thought Terenure would kick on when Con got that red card. The tackle from Bowen exemplified the guts and never give up spirit that Con had. Hard luck to Terenure but they should be very proud of an excellent season. The woman's final was a great game of rugby as well and well done to UL Bohs.
