He is in big money Heritage this week, nice opportunity to bounce back from disappointing Masters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

Not a great week. Looked like he had turned the corner yesterday but still in bed for first 5 holes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,242 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

Very disappointing to see him unable to contend in a tournament where there is no pressure to make a cut.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭abff

    Another final day meltdown, unfortunately.🤯😱

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

Not the performance you want on a sponsors invite. Him and Rory might win next week as they could dovetail well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,503 ✭✭✭BoardsMember

I'd prefer to put hope into a pairing where one or other player had some semblance of form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 424 ✭✭REFLINE1

Shanes putting is a serious problem. loses strokes on the greens almost every round, his irons have been as good as ever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,431 ✭✭✭dublin49

More last day apathy I would think, but his hot streak is definitely over and unfortunately back to the drawing board.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,749 ✭✭✭coillcam

Saw a few holes yesterday evening and the lads were flying. Heard Lowry on the radio this morning saying he was much more relaxed and not as frustrated as normal. In fairness, he was quick to point out it's handy to have Rory to back you up.

    Foursomes tonight will be interesting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,503 ✭✭✭BoardsMember

Will be great to seem them continue that momentum through to foursomes, at the elite level of golf foursomes should be pretty relaxed and enjoyable.

Yeah, interesting alright. Shane number 1 on tour at the moment for driving accuracy, so will Rory do better hitting from good spots in fairways?

Will Shane benefit from being 20 yards further toward the green than usual?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,503 ✭✭✭BoardsMember

Intuitively I thought Rory would take the 3 par threes (unevens, 3 long par 3s), but apparently that isn't the plan, they intend to use Rory driving the hard par 4s. Sounds like the game management we're used to with Rory 🤦‍♂️. I'd prefer to have Shane accuracy off the tee, leaves Rory further out, so no hitting as many wedges....which has to be good for Rory!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,749 ✭✭✭coillcam

I'm sure the lads will figure it out and play to whatever is most comfortable for them. They know more about each other's games than almost anyone.

Tbf I'd prefer Lowry on any short iron/wedge distance atm. There was one Par 4 where Rory hammered to 40 yards and his pitch was impossible so he couldn't get it close. Lowry squeezed out a fairway finder and had a full wedge that nearly jarred before making a nice birdie. Another hole Rory had a big pull on a PW from 160 on the fairway where he left 30-40ft, seems short irons are still kryptonite for him as the commentators alluded to his pattern.

For all that Rory criticism I'm making, the lads are T1 and posted -11 so I'm being fairly picky.

this isn't us, these are tour pros, there should be little/nothing in their shot making ability

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭Neewollah

Shane's putting letting the side down last few holes unfortunately

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,952 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

You never really fancy Shane holing out from 4-6 feet. Holds him back big time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

how did that not go in the water. Writing is on the trophy

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 animajic

Yeah seems like luck might be on their side this week

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,080 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

I have no clue who is training Shane on his putting but this idea of let's not think about it and just hit it is rollox

I assume that’s for a player who when over the ball has to many things going through his head so hit it quickly. I don’t think we will ever see him use a blade putter. Is he always a 2 ball putter user?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,281 ✭✭✭big_drive

He's always used the 2 ball from what I recall. Different versions of it at times alright. Used the blade style one like Harrington for a bit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,281 ✭✭✭big_drive

Just read online he's switched to a Spider this evening. Must have been reading here. Might have borrowed one off Rory for a go

Hopefully they start getting some scores today, both not up to much considering the scoring around them

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,468 ✭✭✭boardise

Strong back nine by the lads ..great chance of the win now. Most of the leaders who scored well today are unlikely to be as prolific in foursomes …no big names there. So here's hoping.

Nervous start for Shane on first

    shane definitely feeling it

Putt on 3 was missable but it will have sucked the life out of Shane, another tiddler missed early Sunday when youre in the mix. Coupled with a pretty poor tee shot off 1 with a fw wood and it's (probably) an insurmountable road back now. Shame to have shot themselves in the foot so early, although youd have been certain theyd have done it at some point.

mixed blessing being with Rory,if you don't hold up your end you will be in the headlights with nowhere to hide

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

    Another shocking putt

I'll be honest - the 2 of them look like lads on the last day on a trip to Spain.

Absolute unknowns carving up the course .Lads struggling for a top 10 🤨.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,624 ✭✭✭Benicetomonty

Would be only delighted if Im eating my words with a belt of single malt in about 90mins time! Some huge putts from Rory and Shane's gotten his act together.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,281 ✭✭✭big_drive

Playing serious enough golf last couple hours. Par at 17 and birdie 18 could do it

  • Registered Users Posts: 704 ✭✭✭bamayang

Mcillroy carrying Shane for last 3 holes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,952 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Shane with a couple of stickers on the last two letting the side down.

They weren't easy shots but poor execution on both.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,637 ✭✭✭joebloggs32

Two poor iron shots in a row possibly going to cost them a win

  • Registered Users Posts: 283 ✭✭kyleman

Very poor from Shane at 17 and 18.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,440 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Bogeyed 17 after a poor Lowry tee shot and with Rory absolutely smoking his drive down 18, Lowry again hits another poor iron shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,171 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

Poor by lowry on 18....lot of pressure on Rory now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,637 ✭✭✭joebloggs32

    Ballsy by Mcilroy

Shane looking antsy waiting to putt.

After the bad start to the round a play off is probably a good result

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,952 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

In the side door, but in is all that matters

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,482 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

    A leaderboard of nobodies

  • Registered Users Posts: 283 ✭✭kyleman

Well done lads. 25 pga wins for Mcilroy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,751 ✭✭✭4Ad

Delighted..Some beers will be sunk tonight…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,281 ✭✭✭big_drive

The other lads hanging around for 3 hours probably wasn't great for their chances

A win like this might have great knock on effect for both Rory and Shane for rest of year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,043 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Did someone say this gets you a 2 year exemption?

    Would.shane need that now ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭abff

No need to be so negative. A win is a win! And it probably gets Shane into the remaining Signature Events.

Wasn't meaning to be. But that leaderboard was full of nobodies but McIlroy and Lowry. And that playoff went exactly along those lines. You could see the moment that lad choked on the par putt. And that was after a number of wayward shots. Just not lads who play at the business end of things.
