That comment about Nick Cave??? FFS would you cop yourself on. Nick made a ton of brand new fans at ATN in recent years, people - lots and lots of young people - who went to see him at ATN although normally, outside of a festival, they wouldn't - BECAUSE THAT'S THE WAY GOOD/LEGENDARY FESTIVALS WORK. Sorry for shouting but I had to get past the crap blocking your ears. Nick Cave was for many the highlight of that festival. And for existing fans like me, his performance at ATN was one of the best musical experiences ever.

Yeah I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with them post tom. Their also doing a huge outdoor hometown gig in Leicester this summer

What you meant to say was EP is not EP anymore, because that brand USED to mean quality and diversity. It is now an entirely different brand, one that is less appealing to people of all ages who are actually into music and good festivals. You justify that on the basis that it's all about selling the tickets, any old dross will do because the majority of 75k punters don't care. Those people were in a minority for most of EP's history. Sad they've taken over and they have the likes of you shilling for them. Shame on you and that bollix Benn.

Seen them in King Johns Castle last summer, fantastic gig, supported by Thumper. They are definitely taking themselves a bit less serious than they used to, and that's certainly not a bad thing.

but yeah if you double your festival capacity then it’s not going to be same brand.
With doubling capacity they now book extremely popular/expensive acts like Billie eillish, Paulo nutini, Niall horan, the killers more easily and the double edge sword is now they have to book acts of that ilk cause you are now trying to sell 75k tickets not 32k.
and a line up consisting of Nick cave, Bjork, new order etc doesn’t have the same draw and those acts might not want to be subheadliner to a Billie eillish,noah or Fred again.
a stupid analogy would be a team getting promoted to the premier league, they can now afford more expensive players and talent that worked in getting them to premier league needs to replaced to keep them in the league and not relegated.

Tastes are different and change

Only 4 out of 11 of who I thought would originally be added to the bill. (Still expect Two door to be added later).

Overall reaction is the same as most here, weaker than previous years, but, for me there will be enough between this and hopefully second annoucement to satisfy me, considering the price with the loyalty ticket.

The Friday is particularly weak, hopefully Kasabian headline the EA that day so I can stay away from Kahan and Gerry.

Kylie is definitely a coup (Only have to look across the pond where she is charging £100+ per ticket). I think the Raye / Kylie mainstage will work and barring no major clashes, which is very likely as of now, would warrant a visit. Also, I think kylie has the pedigree to headline any fest, very harsh to be lumping her in with Kahan or comparing to The Killers etc. (Would be very easy to see the Killers in Ireland over past 3-5 yrs vs Kylie and they are playing 3 nights again in 3Arena this summer).

On peoples point of ATN, Forest Fest or Wild roots competing, personally, I think they really lack any decent headliners…even as bad as headliners are this year there a few decent ones at EP in Kasabian, Tesky Bros, Waterboys and Tom Grennan. There's little disputing that EP lineups have gotten weaker but in my opinion are still far ahead of competition, but the other festivals really are targeting a more specific audience.

I'm holding out hope that 2nd annoucement will fill many but not all of the voids that currently exist. Either way, I'll probably have a bit more time to explore the smaller stages and salty dog etc. so every cloud and all that..
