If it was guards they'd have caught up with you and pulled you over and they're fairly quick to do so,

unless that happened there's nothing to worry about.

I don't think they need to pull you over anymore. The new equipment they have these days takes pictures or videos of the offence which allows them to issue FCN using the car's reg without the need to pull you over.

The old hand held hair dryer type radar guns didn't have that feature so that's why they had to pull you over.

Their new equipment has greater range and accuracy too. By the time you see them it can be too late.

Look in the photo below how far away they are from the Audi driver:

at least not a 201 reg - something that new will have all the Garda decals and go-fast stripes on it. Undercover will use older, non-descript cars. But the blue collar gives them away….

They do not have to stop you. They post the paperwork to the address the car is registered to. Only way to know is wait.

They like to stop people in general as some people say another non Irish person was driving to try avoid the points. If they stop the car, get the drivers licence number then it's hard to avoid or appeal it later.

I have seen gardai on a motorway overpass bridge at 11pm at night , presumably photographing speeders. I double they could or would stop anyone due to the logistics involved.

Well, those same big burly lads are sitting on roads at 3/4am and can see those gangs travelling around the country.

So yeah, if you feel you're at risk from drug gangs, or travelling criminals, then you should feel safer.

It's called a "Non Intercept" (no contact). If you're very unlucky the ticket was in the post to you before you got home. But the car you describe wouldn't be doing it.

You could probably drop into a Garda station and make a statement if you are unsure.

It may not result in a prosecution, but hopefully you might be on their radar and it will count against you in a prang or further offence.
