Ah so now it's your turn to gloss over a pretty fundamental issue. I suppose this accommodation that unskilled IPA's can live in and pay for themselves without state assistance will fall out of the sky.

And good luck with stopping full rent out of their wages. There's plenty on more than a labourers wage that still can't afford to rent in and around the large urban areas so I dunno how you'll square that circle.

Funny you were all too busy earlier on badgering a few on here over holes in their proposals. While your own list looks like swiss cheese.

Seems that not needing ID/passport between England and NI works for them.

But it hasn't stopped anyone in Dublin Airport from arriving without papers either.

Fianna Fail have the guns out for O Gorman and McEntee at the parliamentary meeting

O’Gorman doesn’t take responsibility for that because when he was asked a specific question on the tweets his reply was that his tweets where simple summaries of the white paper.

    Irish Politics = No Accountability

I’d say he is quietly relieved that McEntee is getting the heat now.

i really hope so. I think a lot of the disquiet locally in Newtown has been due to how the community have been treated.

Basically, an ipa centre is going in, like it or lump it. We don't have to tell you anything, we'll do what we want, and when you say no, we'll use underhanded tactics, and if you still say no we'll bully our way in, and if you still say no we'll us the gardai to escort balaclava wearing workers in, who rip number plates off their vehicles without consequences.

    Etc etc etc etc.

And that was even before last Thursday.

What? That non nationals can buy houses? no-one is baiting anybody, but this narrative that is being out across that all non nationals are stealing our houses, is just argumentative and not helpful.

Where's he gone anyway? Haven't seen him speak publically since the referendum outside of the GP party conference.

I say he is Green HQ doing boycie style laughs with Eamon and the gang.

I dunno how I feel about this. I understand that the community in Newtownmountkennedy have been treated atrociously by the state and have reached breaking point. But I can’t help but feel sorry for the migrants here.

What I do know is that the government have f ucked up the management of this country

  • Registered Users Posts: 186 ✭✭engineerws

Your response to the poster was that all the asylum seekers were fleeing war to bring over their families when in fact the government department says that the majority are economic migrants, so I thought it might be necessary to explain to you the reality but you say nothing needs to be explained to you. Sadly, I am not so knowledgeable as you, as I often appreciate when people help and explain things to me but note that in future such explanation is not needed in your case.

In answer to your question, I have never seen you acknowledging that the majority are fraudulently claiming asylum to which they are not entitled. Now that you have acknowledged that the majority are falsely claiming asylum, I'd appreciate it if could you explain in a similar fashion as you described in regards the minority how the majority arrive here to claim asylum?

-- As others have said, I am not condemning the morality or judging the circumstances that lead people to fraudulently claim asylum. --

I’d feel the same way. it’s a **** mess. It’s going to get worse.

Ah that's just one proposal from quite a few.

I've posted in other threads on how we need to raise wages and conditions for labourers and tradespeople in construction generally.

    Nobodies getting undercut.

I think we should also bring in the equivalent of a student loan scheme to attract Irish people to construction apprenticeships. With x amount of years served in the trade, debt would be forgiven.

Cant keep leaving a broken 'private market' to somehow fix itself.

Govt are the real problem here, not the migrants, chancers will chance,

I would expect things will settle down a bit in Newtown.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,926 ✭✭✭suvigirl

You might want to re read it. I pointed out twice, quite clear, in both posts that I was not suggesting that was the case with all people travelling here. Very clearly.

I'm not sure how you expect me to know how the majority of asylum seekers get here, I never suggested how anybody gets here.

There is nobody in charge, nobody has been told anything, there are no community liason offices, no politicans, nobody has any idea how this thing is meant to work. For god sake, they're still claiming the site is earmarked for asylum seekers.

Harris wants to be the big man and take praise for clearing Mount Street, but doesn't, or hasn't for the last 2 months, cared about Newtownmountkennedy or any other village and community that has to deal with this ongoing fuckup.

All of the above, doesn't excuse the video, but I can see how its happening. But they just won't listen, and the unfortunate thing is, its only going to get worse.

if they keep treating us with contempt it will only get worse.

Don't think so, Govt creating division leads to scenarios like this.

Jesus the fact he was cited back in.

We can't blame government for people behaving like scumbags and abusing others, that's on those people themselves.

Has anyone ever answered the question as to why it's mostly only men?

Is the reason their home country is considered "an unsafe country" because there's a wife waiting there to clobber them if they come back without 7 welfare payments, a PPS number, a medical card and 7 plane tickets for the whole family back?

The questions that keep me up at night...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,118 ✭✭✭StrawbsM

Ah I’d disagree, Suvi. These people aren’t scumbags. They’ve just reached breaking point.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,592 ✭✭✭Real Donald Trump

Men over first, then get the whole gang over in the near future, someone posted a video earlier today about their intentions.

This is a complete lie. Notice how the Tories are trying to twist this in to "Ireland breaking international agreements"!

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭sekiro

How can we honestly say "Refugees Welcome" when in reality it's "here's a tent, enjoy sleeping on the streets of Dublin from January to April and beyond"?

And also call people who say "there's no room for these people" a bunch of racists?

If the situation here is so dire that people are being given a tent, a sleeping bag and told to get on with it then what the hell are we doing?

I am sure that some of these blokes sleeping in tents will come out the other side of this with a story of how they dragged themselves up to be contributing members of society but what about the others? What's the future for these guys? Sitting in a facility somewhere in Ireland getting government hand outs for the rest of their days?

I'd love to know what the long term plan is here. A more frightening question is, do we even have a long term plan?

How many years can this go on before the unsustainable nature of the situation becomes impossible to ignore? A thousand tents on the streets of Dublin? Ten thousand?

Could we realistically find ourselves in a situation where we have 100s of thousands of new immigrants with no place to stay and no opportunities to speak of?

We just say "refugees welcome" and look the other way?
