Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

United will finish 8th. Can't see us getting 3 points again this season.

The Times are reporting that Aston Villa are campaigning for the PSR threshold to be increased by £30m to £135m loss over 3 years. Kind of gives us an indication of how much risk they have at failing this years one.

No noises to that affect at the moment coming out of the club/media that covers the club yet (can just sell players before the deadline anyway if needs be), so I think its more of a case of wishing to be able to maximise the potential for pre CL summer net spend.

I think the headline is also a little bit misleading, as the clubs who have already received punishment, are likely all under pressure next year again, and may welcome some flexibility from it also. Its the clubs who are well within the rules, who may receive this news the worst IMO.

How does tonali not get a further ban for an additional 50 offences after the original ones?

Lad clearly has an addiction and I guess it would look bad to keep kicking him while he’s down while he assumably recovers.

The money they spend on developing youth would in large part be spent on hoovering up all the talent that would otherwise have gone to smaller clubs, or just taking them from those clubs.

I don't see how you think City spending more on youth (or United or Liverpool) wouldn't be worse for the smaller clubs in their catchment areas.

As for well run clubs having a GREAT chance at competing regardless of their size, I don't think it will shift the scales that much.

Brentford being able to spend maybe 150million (85% of their revenue) vs City being capped at 515million (for example) doesn't make a huge difference to the competition.

You could, in fact, argue it is greed from owners at some clubs to vote for it. Like if United were to build a new stadium and do other things to increase revenues, they could earn well in excess of 750m in revenues in future years (Madrid projecting 1billion+ after new stadium upgrades) - so if they are capped at 515, do you think that 250m or whatever is just going to go back into the club? Or will the owners/shareholders start/resume taking money out of the club from that profit?

THat is 100% not saying all owners who vote for it are greedy, but clubs who think they could get to a point where 70% of their revenue is less than the cap? What is their motivation for voting for that?

I hope that means an end to the TV companies feeling that they are contractually obliged to highlight him in the crowd, and talk about what role he had at the club. In every single Forest game on TV.

Unless Sheffield beat Forest I'd say Luton and Burnley are both gone after yesterdays draw.

Burnley vs Forest could also be the ultimate fight for survival on the final day if Sheffield do beat Forest today.

VAR failing again, but it's against Arsenal so not much will be said about it.

Havertz with a clear dive there. Should be yellow for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,568 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

Wasn't a dive, he shoved the defender and lost his balance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,976 ✭✭✭doc_17

he shoved him and them fell to the ground himself. Just like he fell to the ground for the penalty by leaving his trailing foot dragging along the ground. He isn’t an honest player. He dived for the first one as he clearly didn’t lose his balance. Before he hit the ground he was appealing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,557 ✭✭✭✭CSF

The obsession with the referee's original decision really makes VAR so ineffective. Thats one they should be able to overturn IMO. All the contact is engineered by Havertz there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,716 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

'How refreshing it is to see the ref give the penalty decision as opposed to recently where they don't and wait for review' says TNT

Classic case just there where VAR wouldn't have given that peno if the ref hadn't. Clearly instigated by Havertz

Still not got the hang of that oul VAR have they ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,568 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

Have you ever shoved someone off the ball at full throttle? Of course you can lose his balance, which he did.

The actual peno probably wasnt, tbf.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭Garzorico

That’s a free out and probably a yellow card to Havertz if its outside the box. You’d think that VAR could get it right. Does anyone know the actual VAR rules are given that was clearly Havertz kicking the keeper?

  • Registered Users Posts: 981 ✭✭✭earthwormjack

That was 100% a penalty. Goalkeepers don't get nearly punished enough for rushing off their line and getting nowhere near the ball. It's a penalty all day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,867 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Stonewall pen considering the ones that are given these days. It is what it is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,109 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Good half from Arsenal and a very important goal to go in to the break with a well deserved lead. Big second half needed.

tell us again how VAR and the refs are all against Arsenal after that dive 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,867 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Bournemouth should've seen red in the first half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,742 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

That's a stonewall pen, the outrage is laughable. Any comments about the red card challenge on Saka?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,500 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

so when you run you drag your hind leg on the ground? Interesting technique, must try it. **** laughable indeed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,742 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

Travers slides out, misses the ball and catches the striker, it's not complicated. These are given every single week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,109 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

All the mouthing in here from the "experts", but not a single person mentioned what should have been a red card.

    Bitter to the core!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,085 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Ive only seen the Havertz incident in that half but it's clear that he leaves his foot down dragging it on the floor in order to initiate contact from the goalkeeper who is planted in his position. "clever play" some pundits would call it. Havertz could have stepped over the trailing leg of he wanted to.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭Garzorico

the keeper didn’t catch the striker, the striker caught the keeper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,803 ✭✭✭irelandrover

Im not sure on it. As you say he could have easily stepped over him. But should he have to? You are basically saying the player should get out of the keepers way.

Travers slides out, misses Havertz, but Havertz drags his foot to make sure he kicks Travers’ leg. It’s not complicated 🥴

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,500 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

The “experts” as you are calling them (but it’s everyone else that’s bitter 🫨) are talking about the penalty incident. You’re free to talk about whatever other incident you like, it’s a message board 👍🏻

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,742 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

Which one is sliding out and missing the ball? Havertz is under no obligation to jump over a mistimed tackle.

The PL refs give this every time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,722 ✭✭✭golfball37

CL ref didn’t give it when Saka did it v Bayern. EPL refs just don’t know the game as well as the elite refs sadly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,716 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

    Foul on the keeper

    🤣🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,803 ✭✭✭irelandrover

    That's either a goal or a penalty

    scandalous decision.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,225 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Dunno where the foul there was. Got away with that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,498 ✭✭✭ForestFire

So ref did not blow a whistle until the ball in the net…so was unsure

Why not ask him to review his own decision on the monitor..

These monitors are never used anymore

And Webb saying they'll explain decisions next year …IF the Ref goes to the monitor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,557 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Modern football is just performing mental gymnastics as to why inconsistent refereeing decisions are actually all correct.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,976 ✭✭✭doc_17

that was mad. The referee didn’t blow his whistle until the ball was in the net. If he was blowing for the nudge on Raya, why didn’t he blow it at the time? Mental. And if VAR are saying that it is a foul, why didn’t they look at the pull from Ben White beforehand which was clear and sustained? Arsenal complaining about VAR earlier in the season has been very good for them since.

Yeah it's a result of other things being missed really, IMO.

Referees tend to miss proper fouls and so as a result players feel the need to exaggerate other tackles in order to 'win' the foul, or penalty.

It's possible to be impeded but still hurdle the challenge and finish (or could have missed the shot), and still score. Havertz, as others have done this season, chose to not leave it to chance that the referees would see him being impeded so left his foot in and force the decision IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,803 ✭✭✭irelandrover

I'd agree. If he hurdles the challenge and misses he'll get nothing. I really believe the refs bring this on themselves as they give nothing unless a player goes down.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,225 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Yup. Defender pushes Martinelli in the back in the box when he's running at speed there causing him to lose balance and nothing gets given. Then you wonder why players go down easy under contact.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,500 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

ah but there’s a conspiracy against them from VAR. Has been for years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,404 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Great win for Arsenal. Made hard enough work of it but the better team by miles. Fully deserved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,085 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Thay Bournemouth goal decision is mad. Like they are saying no you're not allowed touch goalkeepers again now but it was fine last week, and other weeks, when Ben White does it. The PL social media accounts were even laughing at him doing it!

Raya's flap at the ball is definitely a contributing feature. I reckon if the goalkeeper makes a mistake, they are more likely to get sympathy from the referee and so get a foul given on them.

    The inconsistencies are just infuriating.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,225 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

If that's the erm... slight touch that Solanke gave Raya before he even jumped then... Yep. Crazy decision.

Ben White has a serious issue with keeping his hands to himself!

It's all that abuse Steve Holland gave him at the World Cup, he just wants to be loved…😅
