we have been looking into getting a brick extension but it has been mentioned to us to get a log cabin one. Anyone any experience good or bad. It’s gonna be primarily for kitchen but possibly a bed room too. Any advise or experience would be appreciated

Log cabins are popular for people to build cheap garden room. They do not need the same durability as a house.

If trying to extend with that construction you are opening up a lot more issues. There’s a much lower standard of regulation for a “shed”.

Will the support without movement of settlement relative to the house.

Does it meet building regulations and the quality of construction required for a house?

Fire resistance, Waterproofing, Sound proofing, and Thermal insulation would all be questionable.

    that’s what’s being advertised

    • Fully insulated
    • Walls 45mm or 60mm logs + 100mm insulation + 19mm cladding
    • Total wall thickess 164 mm – 179mm
    • 100mm roof insulation
    • 100mm floor insulation
    • Living type windows and doors (living standard 24mm argon gas filled double glazing)

”Fully insulated” doesn’t mean much. What type of insulation, or better yet what you value?

What is the floor construction? Waterproofing?

    Fire resistence/spread?
