They weren't crap. Beat Waterford with 14 men, beat Cork, drew with Tipp, lost to Clare by 1. Well deserving to qualifyand win it. I actually think they played better against Clare last year than they did this year. Tipp were an absolute mile off where they were at this stage last year when they beat Clare in Ennis.

Maybe Limerick are back at full throttle, but I wouldnt be basing it on yesterdays performance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 292 ✭✭Bobby_Bolivia

I thought Limerick were very poor in the first half especially, Tipp were just so historically bad that they were unable to take advantage of it. There was a constant breakdown of the Limerick short game.

I don't think they were that good in the second half either, but they didn't have to be. Tipp produced the one of the most rotten performances in their history. They would have gotten more of a game from somebody in the Joe Mc. Not saying that if Tipp played to their highest level they would have won, because Limerick's highest level is obviously better than Tipps.

But anybody acting like Limerick this year in Munster is a different beast to last year, I don't agree.

Galway didn't qualify in 2019 and the matches between all 4 strong teams in Leinster are largely competitive. Based on their performances over the past few seasons, it's unlikely Waterford would be any better than Wexford / Dublin were they to be in Leinster. Galway haven't pulled up too many trees under Shefflin yet, but were still able to overcome Cork and Tipp the past 2 years in the qualifier. This season to date, Cork are practically out before May even starts and Tipp look very poor. Munster might be a dogfight but not a lot to suggest that all teams there are superior to what's in Leinster.

@MfMan I decided to tag you because for some reason you can't quote posts on mobile phone!

In Munster we don't have the likes of Antrim and Carlow in our group. Apologies if i sound disrespectful to those counties but there is bit of an imbalance there wouldn't you say?

Waterford did get to an all Ireland final in 2020 and knocked Galway out of the championship in 2021, so i wouldn't consider them to be an inferior team to Wexford and Dublin at all imo.

Yes, but years 2020 and '21 were Covid years, the round-robin system was suspended. The RR hasn't been kind to Waterford in particular, winning just one (?) match in it's entirety before 2024? And I'm sure you noticed Westmeath's win over Wexford last season and Antrim's victory at the weekend! In spite (or because) of that you can be sure Wexford will be raring to go against Galway at home on Saturday. Only this season and last has there been 6 counties in Leinster, thus an extra 'whipping boy' (no offence either). For the first three years of it's existence margins for error in Leinster were tighter. Thus, in 2019 Galway were eliminated on scoring difference when all 4 'strong' teams finished level on 5 points. There has never been a conclusion that tight in Munster.

To repeat, Munster may be a dogfight but it doesn't mean it's any less fair viz-a-viz Leinster.

@MfMan Valid points i agree i still think it's easier to rebuild a team in the Leinster championship than in Munster though.

Antrim and Westmeath have claimed Wexford's scalp yet i still couldn't see either of them or Carlow beating anyone in Munster.

I just think while suprise results can happen the Leinster championship is overall a bit less intense than it's Munster equivalent.

    20 minutes gone... Wexford 0-09 Galway 0-06

Wexford look to have a better game plan so far

  • Registered Users Posts: 536 ✭✭✭C4000

Looked like a clear point for wexford waved wide there......

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

Pity both games not on free to air this evening. And RTE radio not great either coming and going every few minutes. And rugby on later so Tipp v Waterford wont get good coverage either. So option 3 for me is Galway Bay FM now with Cyrill Farrel and perhaps Tipp Fm for later game. You can be sure the dreaded rugby wont get in the way 😄

Galway have the breeze second half should be worth a few. Wexford must have got some rollicking of Rossiter after last weeks loss to Antrim as much improved but typical of how inconsistent they are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,473 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Was that the shot where one umpire waved the white flag while the other umpire signalled it being wide?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

Red card Wexford. Could wake Galway from their slumber.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,473 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

    It's a lifeline for Galway.

    Definitely a red card anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,477 ✭✭✭FintanMcluskey

Galway are in a battle to come 3rd in Leinster.

    Dublin always have their number

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,380 ✭✭✭Gael85

Galway are poor. No chance winning Liam McCarthy this year.

They have no chance of getting out Leinster watching them playing with an extra man here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,473 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

    Thoroughly deserved win from Wexford.

Galway look... rudderless, clueless, and the players don't look like they are too bothered

  • Registered Users Posts: 536 ✭✭✭C4000

That was the one. Didnt matter in the end, Wexford hurled Galway off the field. Rest of the Leinster championship is going to be very interesting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,477 ✭✭✭FintanMcluskey

The warning signs were there for Galway when they struggled past Carlow a few weeks ago.

Hard to know where Kilkenny are this year only managing a draw last week

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭Freneys Treasure

You simply can't beat the Leinster Championship

great win for wexford , especially with 14 men , galway way off their best in fairness , very wasteful with the extra man and general attacking play was very poor

  • Registered Users Posts: 492 ✭✭Butterbeans

Kilkenny were missing 4 starters last week, but yeah, Wexford will have their tails up playing KK at the end of May. They've no fear of us

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,508 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

Rory O'Connor as good a forward as anyone in the country. Matches the workrate with talent.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,068 ✭✭✭blackcard

On formlines, Antrim should thrash Galway

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

Yes very poor from Galway. Fair play to Wexford all the same. Still think if Galway beat Dublin (in Galway) and Antrim they should make Leinster final but there forn is not very positive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,483 ✭✭✭MfMan

Extra man made no difference, games was gone by then. Galway will deserve every criticism going, but not least the management for continually picking players not up to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,124 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

i am amazed how far back grealish has gone from a few years ago in particular

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

There was still 20 mins or so left and Galway had whatever breeze. No way game should have been done then but Wexford really seemed to play well (only hearing on radio).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,982 ✭✭✭billyhead

Does it come down to head to head results or points difference in deciding who goes through? If Dublin are level on points with Wexford after all their games I presume it's points difference?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

There was a bit of noise this week about Galway failing to beat a weakened Kilkenny at home last week. The heat is going going to get a lot hotter for Henry this week. And it will be justified as many had them as second or third favourites for the All Ireland and they're not performing.

Imma say it now, Chin is as every bit as good as Reid, but in a worse environment. Technically as good anyway

  • Registered Users Posts: 492 ✭✭Butterbeans

The ref just stood out of the way as that penalty was struck

Galway are getting worse every year under Shefflin

Must be the end of the road for him at this stage

  • Registered Users Posts: 297 ✭✭jack747

I’ve said it before and will say it again. The time keeping in gaa is an utter disgrace and doesn’t get the attention it deserves. There was 1 minute extra time played there in Waterford tipp game. Would love to see the amount of time the ball was out of play.

  • Registered Users Posts: 536 ✭✭✭C4000

Head to head if two teams are level, and then points difference if they drew. If three teams are level its points difference but only from the games between those teams. Rules are different for Munster strangely enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,135 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

I was talking a few days ago about the Leinster championship being apparently easier than it's Munster equivalent.

Well that Wexford result today has sure knocked that argument on it's head! As a neutral i'm delighted hurling needs a strong Wexford imo.

wtf was he doing running across the keepers eye line? Owens really having a poor couple of weeks

  • Registered Users Posts: 492 ✭✭Butterbeans

It hasn't really got going yet. Didn't think it was a penalty. Well worked 2nd goal for Waterford.

Bit of argie bargie between the management teams going in at half time

He's a class act. He has the skills and physicality. Watch his goal against Antrim for example.

The Leinster Championship has been saved

Very tight game between Waterford and Tipp

  • Registered Users Posts: 492 ✭✭Butterbeans

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,483 ✭✭✭MfMan

Fear a little for Waterford here. Only for the goals. Tipp' finding scoring much easier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 906 ✭✭✭Ompala

Tipp will need goals to win this. Owens decisions definitely benefitting Waterford so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 492 ✭✭Butterbeans

Ford poor on the frees.....just gone off...the Bonnar is on.

Hard to know which way this will go. Tipp marginally better but goals will be key. Some of the striking is woeful

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭Freneys Treasure

How did Bonner get away with that one with Owens reffing?

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭Freneys Treasure

    Some dive for the equalizer

  • Registered Users Posts: 492 ✭✭Butterbeans

It wasn't the only free given for a dive today. At least Owens is consistent

Tipp did well to get a point, ref was woeful though serious questions need to be asked.

Hard to see Waterford get anything from Ennis or Limerick. Hard to see 3 points being enough.
