New FTA channel coming in May

    A new channel called Rewind TV is to launch on Sky and FTA Satellite (which may include Freesat) on the 23rd of May 2024.

    It will show older programmes from the UK. The channel's official website says it is aimed at the over 55+ demographic.

    I posted this in the broadcasting section earlier. I think they are negotiating with Freesat which explains why they weren’t mentioned!

    Only right. Them programs were never made for HD T.V as it was way before that and they would look terrible on it.

    Actually a lot of stuff made in the UK in the 60s/70s with a view to selling it in the US was shot on film.

    In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

    The past is the future of TV. And indeed the present. As it has to be when there are thousands of stations looking to fill in 24 hours a day all year round.

    programmes such as the Avengers and The Prisoner were filmed on 35 mm with a view to selling overseas. Fast forward ten years or so into the 70s and shows like The Sweeney, Minder and The Professionals look terrible filmed on 16 mm so in effect the older shows will hold up better on modern tvs!

    Launched today, looks to be on Sky UK EPG only, their Twitter page says UK only in response to a question about it not being on the Irish EPG. Also not on Freesat, I've tuned it in on FTA box, potentially might have some oldie show I want to rewatch for the 9th time 😂

    Good quality 16mm can scan to HD resolutions. Part of the problem is that some "16mm productions" have video inserts, particularly indoor shots, which absolutely aren't HD. Or weren't filmed with good quality film.

    Good quality 35mm can scan to 4k easily.

    No mention of subtitles according to Digiguide. Not much use then to us over-55s who are a bit "corned beef".
