Convert house to two apts

    Hi there,

I am on the house hunt but I would ideally like to make a little side business of sorts from the house.

I am thinking about either buying a place with an already constructed granny flat, or buying a place that could easily be converted into two apartments of sorts (upstairs and downstairs). The apt plan would require a large enough hall way to erect a partition wall and a door to the stairs and a door to the downstairs apt.

What is the legality around splitting the house in two? I am thinking of airbnbing one of the apts for longer term stays (15 days plus).

What are peoples thoughts on this in regards to planning permission?

    Thanks
