Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You might be familiar with the routings, but I'm not sure you're actually familiar with the area really. There are thousands of people living on unique sections of each of the C1 and C2 who will have a half hour wait either way. Those on the unique sections of the C1 don't even have the L53 as an option without a 10-15 minute walk - they're stuck with the appalling L51 and GAI incompetent service - cancelled more than half of departures regularly.

I ve seen drivers leaving the car parks without paying. They tailgate another car exiting the barrier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,858 ✭✭✭✭average_runner

But the L53 and C2 constantly arrive at the same time where we live and we are early on both routes!!!!!!!!

Could go 40 mins at the weekend waiting for either a c2/l53. Past experiences!!

I couldn't be arsed getting public transport to LV. Why would I? It takes 5-10mins to drive so fuel costs are negligible and if all 4 of us were going, why would I pay that amount there and back for public transport when fuel and parking would cost less?

    No thanks

Yeah, only people getting the bus are teenagers with no car. Especially when you're just going to browse.

As the parent of a teenager with no car the option for them to take a bus instead of a lift is very welcome 😉

    Scrap the cap!

Yesterday was the second time I saw this happen in the last month. You will spot them a mile away as they practice it leading up to the exit.

That being said, props to the guy in the black Merc yesterday, certainly got the balls even though there were attendant standing next to the barrier machine in both lane.

If it happens to me and I cop it I will crawl out in the hopes it stops the tailgater or better still barrier comes down on the clowns car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,897 ✭✭✭SteM

I'd imagine there's a sensor in place to stop the barrier coming down on a car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,858 ✭✭✭✭average_runner

Iconnect now gone from Liffey Valley. not surprise though, that end is totally dead now. Only reason Next is there, is for the online returns as the rest of the shop is dead.

Nespresso gone also. Used to be the pick up some stuff from it when I was in LV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,858 ✭✭✭✭average_runner

They shutdown all their shops, all online now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,561 ✭✭✭Heroditas

The one in South Anne Street is still open, isn't it?

Pain in the ass in terms of recycling the pods though. I know An Post will pick them up but it's still not as handy as dropping them I to LV every so often.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,858 ✭✭✭✭average_runner

The shop told us they were all going, Dundrum one gone also.

Have to say the an post service is very good, just go to the website and they collect it the next day no matter how many bags. The previous courier system was a disaster.

I loved tasting the different coffee's in Liffey valley before I bought them, but online does have a better selection

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,317 ✭✭✭Speedsie
    ¡arriba, arriba! ¡andale, andale!

You can also print out a postal label, stick it on the bag & drop that into any post office, if it's not convenient for An Post to collect

Much, much better than the previous courier method.

I think I've been into the centre thrice since paid parking came in, twice to the cinema and once to M&S. When paying after leaving M&S, my reg wasn't on the system. There was an attendant who told me just to drive up to the barrier & pay there (back in Nov I think).

Been to B&Q, the Range, Currys etc multiple times, just not the centre. Previously, if I'd have time I'd go over for a wander/coffee/bite to eat. Not now.

So what's the story with going to Vue if you have the automatic payments setup?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,312 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

I don't know that on, but any time I've gone to Vue with the family we said we came separately and get a spare ticket.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭MrRigsby

On principle I haven’t gone to LV since they introduced the charges . They want the business so they should be welcoming shoppers , not penalising them. It’s not as if LV is anything special compared to for example Blanchardstown which is free parking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,937 ✭✭✭JDxtra

When the new system came in, I was charged at the barrier due to the camera reading my registration plate. I am not sure if this is still the process as I cancelled my account due to this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,319 ✭✭✭emo72

Was there on Saturday to collect a takeaway, you've 15 minutes to get in and out for free, but I didn't take in to account there would be a queue to get out. I won't be bothering again. Talk about making the whole experience unpleasant.

We constantly see LV compared to Blanch on this thread which I find odd. I've never been to Blanch because I'd have to pay two tolls to get there and back (regardless of it being a traffic nightmare by all accounts, who cares, I'm never going to find out).

Surely there's hardly anyone who can get to both LV and Blanch without either paying tolls or taking a ridiculous detour? It's not a straight comparison between one has free parking and the other doesn't.

    Scrap the cap!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭MrRigsby

Tolls never bothered me before LV introduced the charges and they don’t bother me now . What bothers me is a company already making a tonne of money deciding to be tight and soak their customers for parking fees. It’s not about the money . Considering the relatively close proximity of both centres I would have thought it was an obvious comparison. Sounds like a lot of people are voting with their feet judging from the comments about lack of footfall and closing stores , not just me , tolls are not . There is a back road for anyone wishing to avoid tolls if they know their way around and want to avoid tolls or the M50 traffic . I never had any issues with traffic around Blanchardstown as again local knowledge provides many alternative ways in and out . LV on the other hand at times has very bad congestion due to the barriers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,312 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

Is the "local knowledge" of blanch a secret tunnel? Because it can be a nightmare to get in and out of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,561 ✭✭✭Heroditas

I'd also like to know about this tunnel or how I can avoid Lucan Village which is a permanent traffic jam nowadays in order to avoid the M50

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,298 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

So apparently the way this works is you log into the parking website and redeem the Vue parking voucher there.

I didn't know this at the time. I tried to use the parking machine but it said paid, presumably as I have the automatic payments setup. I was going to try scan the Vue voucher but never got that far, I'm not even sure if the machine can scan anything!

Left the car park expecting a €5 charge but I can't see anything on my account since December.

Most people I know have stopped using Liffey Valley for this reason, and as such the surrounding retail shops, Tesco, B & Q, restaurants, because they are not already at Liffey Valley for something else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,006 ✭✭✭✭Spanish Eyes

I am a bit of a tightwad when it comes to paying a profitable company to increase its profits further. So I usually park around the Range or B&Q, (free) have a nosey around there, then walk over via Tesco into the entrance that leads to Dunnes. It's fine, no worse that carrying stuff from the Centre itself out into a massive dreary car park. Just a few minutes extra. Realistically the stuff you need a car nearby for is in the retail park (free) anyway.

Since doing this I have no need to park and pay in LV anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 704 ✭✭✭lordleitrim

As LV SC is unusual among Irish shopping centres not to have a mainstream supermarket, most shoppers won't be weighed down by half a dozen grocery bags or need a trolley so walking from the retail park to the SC with a few clothes or gift bags isn't too demanding. If you can afford to do all your weekly grocery shopping in M&S food hall, then a couple of euro for parking won't be a deterrent.

Has the retail park or Tesco carpark gotten strict about non shoppers parking there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,561 ✭✭✭Heroditas

I think Tesco are starting to get strict and clamping people who are there too long. Could be very much mistaken though but I thought I'd read it somewhere

Absolutely hopping today not too surprising with the rain, the tonne of things going on around dublin cc etc.

Went to cinema so free parking had a lunch and some shopping all good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,312 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

They're clamping people using the retail park that have been there for more than 2 hours. I reckon they might be using the cameras to see if the owners are walking to the main centre. Saw 3 cars clamped in the retail park 1 day last week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,369 ✭✭✭JVince

a little secret - in many cases the clamped cars belong to car park staff or staff of one of the stores. Clamped with permission and used very much as a visual deterrent.

Not a new idea either. I used manage stores in UK & Irish shopping centers and same tactic was used especially if a carpark was near a transport route. They will always in be fairly visual locations.

However if you see a car clamped in the middle of a row of other cars and not overly obvious if you are driving past, then its likely to be a genuine clamp

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,312 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

I talked to a guy clamped, he paid €120 to get it removed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,912 ✭✭✭Washout

Is there a time limit to park in the retail park?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,521 ✭✭✭Ezeoul

    Over at The Range?

Not yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if one is brought in eventually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,603 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

So one says there isn't, but the one who says there is has seen cars clamped…

If they're clamping there has to be clear signage with T&Cs etc and there was none of that the last time I was there, so has it gone up since?

    Scrap the cap!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,521 ✭✭✭Ezeoul

I think @Cienciano was referring to the Tesco car park?

I took the retail park to mean over by The Range, Currys, Harry Corry etc.

Oops, my mistake. I see their other post now.

Granted, last time I was there was a few weeks ago, so maybe signs have gone up there too? As I said, it wouldn't be unexpected.

I see that the The Health Shop is gone from Liffey valley and what happened to Golden Discs? Seems to be gone too 😞 .

Golden Discs was a pop up shop for Christmas last year , might be back in the run up to Christmas this year if there is a spare unit

Can't believe Golden Discs is still a thing in 2024.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,521 ✭✭✭Ezeoul

Golden Discs was one of the very few reasons we went to LV, my daughter loved it as it stocked a wide variety of K-Pop imports. (She is big into K-Pop). Haven't been to LV since it closed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,369 ✭✭✭JVince

No, Health Store as in Health Store who had 10 branches in Ireland and owned by GNC and were way overpriced.

Awe OK. It was very like an actual store. A pity.

A that's a pity. Never even made the news this At least not RTE or Virgin one news anyway. Sad.

When did they close? Was it just this week?

I will admit they were expensive but did have good deals at times too.

    13km door to door.

Look at the contrast in journey times.

My car uses 6 litres per 100 km, so a return journey would be ca. 1.6 litres, let’s say €3.

    Petrol - €3 return.

    Tolls - €5 return.

    Parking - €5 for 3 hours.

If my entire household go in the car (5 adults) the whole lot costs €13.

That’s €2.60 per person for door-to-door convenience. No wonder the bus isn’t used.

Actually thinking if it now I think I did hear something about some Wells company alright but kind of skipped over it as had no idea what it was. Thought it was a medical company or something.
