raining again. Surely it’ll clear up a bit today!

Thunderstorms could be bad enough later by the time they reach the western side of the country…central area from dublin to Galway…plenty of breaks in the cloud to build up the heat so could get them anywhere…

Well it was a lovely day in Dublin. Sun in and out and felt pleasantly warm.

I thought this week would be very wet after the 2 weeks of dry weather but apart from the first half of Monday it has been quite nice. There were two rain showers that were torrential but they pass quick enough. I was out golfing yesterday evening no bother. Dry and bright in Galway this morning and feels nice. The growth after the heavy Monday rain is exceptional now. Magical time of year.

I was in Dublin yesterday and it was a lovely spring day. Rained all day at home and today is again an utter washout. I really think the south and south east are getting the bulk of the wet weather.

Rain cleared in Meath yesterday around noon. Pleasant evening after. Cool in shade.

Today started really bright at 6am. Cloud moved in around 8.30 and its on and off drizzle.

    12° Meath

Alot of cloud building up now…the more sun in between the cloud the more chance of thunderstorms…the more sun you get the worse they will be…not much yet still abit early in the day

There were lightning strikes in Clare earlier.

Thunderstorms are often quite localized and very hard to pinpoint in a forecast. If you'd looked at the radar at any stage this afternoon you'd have seen quite a few elsewhere. Just because you didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen!

    Beautiful evening NE Galway. Wow.

Due to my job, im constantly looking at weather apps. Im sick of looking at the weather. But there was no need for weather warnings today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,764 ✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

West Galway was very sunny and peaceful this evening. No sign of thunderstorms on my evening walk. Yesterday was a different story.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

If you lived in Roundstone I wonder would you agree?

I got a lawn cut done at the weekend but a few days rain and sun and it's shot up again.

I've left a few uncut grass islands and the wild flowers are taking turns showing off.

You are lucky Cluedo,Monday and Tuesday were two wet days here with over 30mm of rain. Ground is very wet here and it's boiling warm at the moment so will probably get thunder showers later. While we have had some good days so far in May,I would rate it very meh around these parts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,693 ✭✭✭Dazler97

Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford is in a yellow rainfall warning ⚠️ this evening from 18:00 till 00:00

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,764 ✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Oh trust me, Monday morning and early afternoon were very wet even though it was much needed. Apart from a few heavy showers it had been decent since. I was expecting a very wet week. It might be raining a bit at night though.

And don't forget the Aurora display.

    Beautiful morning NE Galway.

Dead Heat by noon. Warm travels back to the east but pleasant all the same.

Thunder around 3pm Meath. Biblical showers now.

    17⁰ Meath

Another beautiful day here in Meath, although it has become more cloudy now with a few spits of rain but ground still dry.

Overall to this point in May I am much happier with this May compared to last year as it is a lot warmer overall and then we had the amazing northern lights display last Friday and a fair bit of thunder already.

Lovely day in East Clare until 40 mins ago..The wind picked up, then it went very dark and then the heavens opened and the thunder and lightening started, my God I thought the roof was going to come in !! Eased off now but still raining .…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,908 ✭✭✭pureza

Quite a wet evening in Arklow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,750 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Overcast, grey and dark, spits of rain as well, lights on in the house. Only for it not feeling cold the morning could be mistaken for a morning in November

Warm but a lot of damp in the air from yesterday.

    Cork harbour

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,217 ✭✭✭pauldry

Still only 15.3mm of rain in Sligo this month. Wev only had 0.3mm of rain this week and 20c most days. I guess this is Summer. A bit odd that it's 20c in mid May with a North wind. Surely in the 80s it would have been 12c today. Not as hot in Spain and Southern Europe as last year. ..yet.

In 2011 the highest temperature we got in Sligo in the whole year was 22.5c. Don't think that will ever happen again since May to September are capable of that now easily.

I'd be fairly confident that it will be over 20c in every month until October quite frequently this year. Not sure yet on heat waves or sun but the copious amounts of rain wev had in the past 8 months make me think we may be onto something drier.

App on phone has 15mm until end of May for Sligo so not bad at all. Also 20c on many days.

The cloud cover must be very very thick, unbelievably dark for mid afternoon here. Cork.

19°, calm and very close near Ardagh, Longford. There was a light shower recently and there's a thundery feel to the air.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,693 ✭✭✭Dazler97

Overcast here in carrick but hopefully the sun 🌞 will pop out , lovely and warm none the less with 20c , and for my location it will be 20c or 21c until Monday evening so great drying conditions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,764 ✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Ye did well to only get 0.3mm this week. One thunderstorm can make all the difference at a weather station. Ye are looking like a very dry May all up. Markree had a very dry May in 2023 too. Most stations had a dry May in 2023 to be fair.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,750 ✭✭✭giveitholly

75mm here in tipp so far in May,has been a very wet week here and ground is saturated again and back to square one. Definitely no let up here unfortunately for the month of May
