I remember Faldo being particularly dismissive of this before, essentially saying they all have live in nannies so it should make little difference to them.

Whilst I probably would agree with Faldo's opinion.

He is not a guy anyone would hold up as a modern role model father.

I'd suggest Scottie will be in a fairly traditional family arrangement..and you know what ...she might be extremely happy with that...massive parts of America are not part of the modern European social changes ...there is the " western world " then there is America these days...

Pedestrian hit by a bus outside the course so I'd imagine it's a tense situation on the road

Scottie in cuffs getting into the police car.

cops are such boneheads in the US

I'd say he had a tough night last night..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,064 ✭✭✭bren2001

He didn't follow the instruction of the police officers. It was traffic to do with the fatal incident. Kinda his own fault.

Think they're saying the issue was thY he tried to drive through the police cordon, when the public were being held back and that caused the mix up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,894 ✭✭✭monkeybutter

it was almost certainly a simple mix up, he doesn't need to be cuffed and arrested and put in the back of a car and off to the station

its how they deal with things there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,863 ✭✭✭alxmorgan

    "attach himself to the car"

wtf was he doing ? Going all Termintor T-1000 cause some lad was driving the wrong way in a traffic restriction. wow

He was told to stop and he continued to drive past the officer. No reason he shouldn't be arrested.

  • Registered Users Posts: 128 ✭✭zocklie

Apparently he was driving up the hard shoulder to get around the traffic to get I to the course, I'd say some cop saw him and lost his ****.

    Scottie on 59 watch now

its clearly and innocent mix up caused by the road closure

    cops be power tripping

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,064 ✭✭✭bren2001

The cop told him to stop. He tried to drive past him. The cop told him to stop again. He continued to drive 10/20 yards.

Don't follow the instruction of a police officer → get arrested. There's no power trip. Even Scottie Scheffler has to listen to the cops. Why didn't he stop and show his pass? It's his own fault.

Classic golfer move, I'm late for my tee time, everyone get the f@*k out of my way!

An unfortunate situation but it's a lesson to celebrities that they are not above the law in these situations. I don't get why they drive themselves to these tournaments. Police dealing with a fatal accident do not need to be pissed of by anyone.

I will admit ..often suprising at that level pros driving themselves..particularly at a major ..odd...

Fatal accident and some entitled golfer not only using hard shoulder..but passing a direction in an emergency..is fairly shocking to be honest.

Spoilt out of touch golfer / golfers

it seems a bizarre situation alright. presume he has since been released and will make his tee time today.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,245 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

American police operate to the letter, there is no grey, if what was reported is correct (he skipped traffic) then it's an open and shut violation and he will be cuffed and off to the station.

Sounds like someone attending the tournament got killed so it's a pity the world is more concerned about some beardy guy than a family suffering a huge loss

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,757 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

In most countries in the world this ends with a conversation, not an arrest ffs. Imagine defending this nonsense

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,064 ✭✭✭bren2001

He's only got himself to blame here.

The police "told him to stop. When he didn't stop, the police officer attached himself to the vehicle. Scheffler then travelled another 10 yards before stopping the car" - Jeff Darlington

So he drove with a police officer attached to his car for 10 yards and you blame the police officers here? The only person to blame here is Scottie man.

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭watersleticia

I agree but not in this scenario. Sounds like Scottie does what he likes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,064 ✭✭✭bren2001

But this tournament is happening in the USA where Scottie is from where they arrest people for this kinda stuff.

Imagine defending someone who doesn't follow the instruction of a police officer. Its his own fault. Why didn't he stop???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,375 ✭✭✭✭prawnsambo

It's funny (in a grim way) that that sentence "why didn't he stop?" almost always follows in bucket loads after a person of colour is shot by the police in what would normally be a pretty innocuous traffic stop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,164 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

Based on the charges he could be looking at some jail time.

In the US at a fatal accident, the cops take it very serious and anyone attempting to cross a police barrier can be considered to potentially interfere with evidence. I'm pretty sure if he didn't stop they would have taken more serious action.

his mugshot is out. Seriously doubt he’ll make his tee time. Has anything like this ever happen before

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,905 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

I assumed it was a misunderstanding and he'd be let into the golf course 10 minutes after the incident, next thing I look on Sky Sports and there's a photo of him in a prison jumpsuit! Bizzare stuff

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,167 ✭✭✭testtech05

Dont know all the info obviously but the list of charges looks fairly serious

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

he’s let out now. I wonder will he have a police escort back to the course?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,164 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan
