But this tournament is happening in the USA where Scottie is from where they arrest people for this kinda stuff.

Imagine defending someone who doesn't follow the instruction of a police officer. Its his own fault. Why didn't he stop???

It's funny (in a grim way) that that sentence "why didn't he stop?" almost always follows in bucket loads after a person of colour is shot by the police in what would normally be a pretty innocuous traffic stop.

Based on the charges he could be looking at some jail time.

In the US at a fatal accident, the cops take it very serious and anyone attempting to cross a police barrier can be considered to potentially interfere with evidence. I'm pretty sure if he didn't stop they would have taken more serious action.

his mugshot is out. Seriously doubt he’ll make his tee time. Has anything like this ever happen before

I assumed it was a misunderstanding and he'd be let into the golf course 10 minutes after the incident, next thing I look on Sky Sports and there's a photo of him in a prison jumpsuit! Bizzare stuff

Dont know all the info obviously but the list of charges looks fairly serious

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,682 ✭✭✭Trampas

he’s let out now. I wonder will he have a police escort back to the course?

I do not agree. Have you forgotten there was a serious incident that led to a fatality.

By all accounts he was told to stop by a Police (law enforcement) officer and ignored that. Perhaps because his day was more important than everyone else's? It's not a great look for him.

They’ll delay as much as possible to avoid having to disqualify him. Talor Gooch figuring out the * implications as we speak.

Assault of a police officer. Surprised he’s out

10 whole yards, the horror. Takes that distance to stop a moving car. Unfortunately the level of escalation is absolutely no surprise in the country that locks up their citizens more than any other in the world.

Millions are now googling what is meant by 2nd degree assault. Mad stuff. The media are going to have an absolute field day with this given Scheffler's Christians beliefs and family man/nice guy image

Barring the obvious tragedy of the RTA fatality, the Scottie stuff is absolutely hilarious

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,700 ✭✭✭bren2001

10 yards is the braking distance for around 40 km/hr. If he was driving that quickly and the police officer could attach himself at that speed, he should be charged with a lot more.

He was obviously going 5/10 km/hr. There was a police checkpoint, he was driving in the hard shoulder, he had to navigate around the traffic and around the police. He was going slowly. His defense is he didn't know it was a police officer so didn't stop.

Embarassing to defend Scottie here. He should have stopped. He has no excuses.

They can’t allow him start later. You can be sure if it was kellen they wouldn’t

I don't even like Scottie and I am not defending him. I just think it is ridiculous to arrest someone for a misunderstanding rather than having a conversation. But look, you obviously think this is incredibly serious behavior, good on you.

in The Open there are drivers for all competitors and they collect everyone throughout the day in line with the tee times.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,841 ✭✭✭blackwhite

The start times for all were delayed due to the fatal RTI, so he has 90 minutes from time of release to get to the first tee

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,832 ✭✭✭alxmorgan

    This is mad ****

I can't get over the "attached himself to the car" bit

This sounds like a complete misunderstanding

My guess is he thought it was security and thought, not unreasonably, I can go around this as a player.

And then probably was stunned at what happened next

So many people here making huge assumptions

"he was asked to stop and didn't comply"

Was his window even open ? Did he know he was being asked to stop ?

Some lad jumps on the bonnet of his car (or whatever other way he attached himself) - no wonder he took a bit to stop - he was probably wondering if he was still at home asleep getting called for a night feed.

Its obviously a bad case of baby brain

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,682 ✭✭✭Trampas

he has until 3:08 but espn put up rule 5.3 which allows them to move to a later tee time

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,697 ✭✭✭allybhoy

Players and coaches where told this morning they could bypass traffic and police and get into the course, they were the only ones with exemptions. Cops hadnt a clue who he was even after they arrested him, should he have stopped perhaps but seems to me he was doing what he was told. Seems to be very little common sense in the states, surely a 2 min conversation clarifies everything, it took him 10 yards to stop after being told that he should be arrested? Seriously… @bren2001 your calculation doesnt include reaction time.. which is double the braking distance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,682 ✭✭✭Trampas

We’ll be starting like a lot of amateur golfers. Straight from car and a quick few putts and onto the first tee box

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,256 ✭✭✭Kaisr Sose

Innocent till proven guilty and all that.

I would say he withdraws. He does not need to be out in the public spotlight after all this.
