Nice for Rory and Shane to win. A bit anticlimactic how it finished with a missed putt sealing the win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,281 ✭✭✭big_drive

Yeah it seems to carry all the benefits of an individual win. Not sure about world ranking points?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,064 ✭✭✭bren2001

I’m not overly sure the relevance of the leaderboard. Cantlay and Xander were there, hardly nobodies. They won and fair play. A wins a win.

No OWGR points for team events. Importantly though it gets Shane into the last 3 signature events. Will also put him into the tournament of champions in Hawaii in January which starts the year

great for Shane, think he owes Rory big time but this could get him going at just the right time time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

Great win for them both. Hopefully gives Shane confidence to get it done as he was nervous when pressure was on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,043 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Yes you could make up strong pairings from others not there...but they still had to go out and win/score in one of the hardest formats in golf.

JT and Spieth would be together and they would.be muck

Yes a Scandinavian team would be unreal ..

And you could pair anyone with Scheffler and they would win it..

Definitely moments like this show impact of LIV as you quickly run out of options trying to pair lads based on OWGR ...

    Golf is a mess..

Shane jumps from 41st to 12th in the Fedex rankings so the week has given him a massive boost in terms of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

I say most of the top pros can’t be arsed playing this week and treat it as a week off. I assume morikawa is playing due to him sponsored by Zurich

Winning is hard, it didn't matter who was on the leaderboard, Shane was still feeling it. It's his first regular PGA Tour win.

You can see how grateful he was to Rory and Rory looks like he had a great week too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,281 ✭✭✭big_drive

They well regardless of who else was up on leaderboard. Foursomes is hard going no matter what level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,503 ✭✭✭BoardsMember

He won the WGC Bridgestone. Called an invitational, is that why you don't count it?

Whereas Rory will presumably have gained a fair degree of confidence from the win - some great driving, and that last pitch on 18 - I think the biggest thing for Shane is the FedEx points and exemptions. H

$1.3m, nothing to be sniffed at, especially the FedEx as just pointed out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,952 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

WGC, so they didn't have a regular PGA tour field, limited field, more international players etc

Of course this one isn't really regular tour event either but he'll take it!

Great to see Shane at last top of the leaderboard after round 4. I know it's a different type of event, but it's a win for him along with Rory.Well done to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

shane still celebrating the win going by todays round

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,242 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

Another tournament with no pressure to make the cut and he's still unable to challenge. Very poor.

Very poor putting ,bad luck on plugged bunkers and then runs out of patience and hits water.Hard to believe he can be nearly 20 shots behind after 3 rounds, not at races currently .Unless Rory is his partner.

Slow start for Shane. His comment on rte were strange. I’m playing well but having loads of bogies

2 birdies in the opening 3 holes. Great start for the big man.

Some start here , could even play himself into contention if this continues

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 347 ✭✭Scrabbel

Fantastic! Looks like him and Rose are pulling each other along in that group, both -5 for the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,089 ✭✭✭Doc07

I think if he can birdie even one of the back 9 par 5s and avoid bogeys he’ll be in contention tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,280 ✭✭✭techdiver

    Massive birdy Putt!

Unbelievable golf today, shame he didn't get that one on 18. But hard to complain. Gives himself a chance going into tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,952 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

God, he'd love to have that one back and give it a real go, a bit tentative in a huge moment.

    He'll be kicking himself.

Fantastic round Shane, bring it home tomorrow!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,164 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

Let's hope he can back it up tomorrow.

No bogeys today so it will be important how he reacts to one tomorrow. Unless of course ….,, !!

Loved the bow between Rose and Lowry at the end. The lads had a real good time out there.

brillant from Shane, hope he didnt use up all his luck today ,as he got more than his fair share of long putts.Hope hes in second last group rather than last.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭Trampas

Seems like a great round as I missed it all. Should I make sure I miss tonight’s also. Great opportunity with another quick start

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,220 ✭✭✭riddles

it’s quite a statement to say you posted a better round of golf in a major than Tiger Woods ever managed. Hopefully he can reset for today and finish strong.

  • Registered Users Posts: 137 ✭✭omeara1113

Great round of golf hopefully brings it home now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,554 ✭✭✭kowloonkev

If he won from where he was after round two it would be one of the all time great major wins. He'll need 66 or lower in my opinion.

Based on history, I'd say it's almost impossible to back up such a great round with another round low enough to get the win.

Next Man City manager: You lot may all be internationals and have won all the domestic honours there are to win under Pep. But as far as I'm concerned, the first thing you can do for me is to chuck all your medals and all your caps and all your pots and all your pans into the biggest **** dustbin you can find, because you've never won any of them fairly. You've done it all by bloody cheating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,431 ✭✭✭dublin49

I am inclined to agree with you ,I imagine it will be somebody else's turn to shoot the lights out but heres hoping.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 animajic

I agree it's unlikely he'll post up another super low number today but if he can just stay steady and consistent he'll be in with a shout. He has experience of getting over the the line in a major too so that's a big bonus.

Very good iron. Let's get the Lowry train going!
