Yeah, not a lot to get excited about, might be handy for someone who had their eye on something, at least a 10E voucher on 100 spent.

Anything at all going these days?

I feel like full price items on McGuirks you are paying a few quid premium as it is, so I feel like that old 10% IGW10 code was great before

Used to make it an easier choice anyway. Clubhousegolf seem to work out cheaper on everything that I look at but McGuirks big sales still had them beat. No big sale or discount code for the PGA though this year

No haven't seen as great value on mcguirks recently. The sale items advertised last week were already that price anyway prior to the PGA championship

yeah, I saw a few things in read in price for the big pga sale and now after that sale finished they are the same price as they were during the sale. I’d always look of them first though as local and quick delivery and decent enough service. I always get next day from mcguirks. Clubhouse can take a week or two.

Has anybody got anything lately or might we get one next weekend?

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,660 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

nothing here and they’ve just launched their latest ‘major value’ sale for us open and nothing appears to be reduced, just the same prices or dearer than everything has been all year. They probably need to be pulled up in their ‘previous selling price’ ads as I’m seeing things that were 50% off now marked 30% off as if there is a price cut.

I’m a big fan of mcguirks and try to shop local, but they are pushing it a bit with sharp practise lately.

i think they are great in general. only annoying thing is postage cost as most online retailers will give free post when spending over €50 or so

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,660 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

I actually think their postage is very fair, they use dpd which is expensive and it’s generally next day. Clubhouse do free over 120€ but can take well over a week for delivery.

In previous years they frequently had good deals around majors but last year and this year has been bad. The actual value has been at other times. As copacetic said too they’re taking the piss with the “reductions” too, loads of stuff up for higher prices than before advertised as a big sale. They’re still the best of the bigger Irish outlets but not what they were IMO.

Same again from mcguirks for this major. Advertising major sale but when I went on everything is same price as last week

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,660 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

some of the stuff is dearer than it was in the previous 5 big sales so far this year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,197 ✭✭✭bailey99

Perhaps you should email them and they might go back to offering a real sale. I stopped buying on mcguirks when they started charging 7 euro for delivery even if I'm ordering hundreds of euro worth of stuff. Plus the 10% off code with Irish golfer magazine was discontinued. I would like to support Irish business but find Clubhousegolf to be cheaper across the board.

DPD are not expensive. That's a myth.

If you are doing any sort of volume they will be as good as anyone else.

I use them. They beat an post on price.

Was watching JPX Sel irons last October, €799. Still on sale today for 799, maybe things are so good no discounts needed or could be the opposite that things are tight.

    GOLFSURE10 should work.

Bought my new cart today with the few accessories. 10% off was most welcome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,197 ✭✭✭bailey99

10% is no longer working unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 675 ✭✭✭bakerbhoy

Did you try it in this format ..

    GOLFSURE10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,335 ✭✭✭big_drive

Feck it, looks like it's not working. And I'd a fairly big spend planned in next couple weeks, the 10% was making it a lot nicer

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,660 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

yeah seems to have stopped working, I used it about a month ago on an expensive club and it made be stick with them over UK company. Pity, possible because of the ‘sale’ that started today?

They've disabled Golfsure10 before for sales and then re-enabled it afterwards. Not every sale, but I experienced it last year for one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,335 ✭✭✭big_drive

Hopefully anyway. Their sale again isn't hectic, I've been on their site a lot recently looking up items. Some stuff advertised today on sale was the same price during the week, no change. It must be getting harder to discount items. A few years back they had unbelievable sales during the Majors, the reductions were significant

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 124 ✭✭avud

I find with mcguirks anymore there's not many discount codes on offer and it seems what is on offer are not regular sizes, just clearing stock for the new items. I've used clubhousegolf.co.uk in recent times. No customs to be paid and an all round better selection to choose from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,197 ✭✭✭bailey99

I agree. I always bought in McGuirks but I am using ClubhouseGolf now in most instances to purchase. The lack of genuine sales in McGuirks costs them business. Two boxes of ProV last week with 106 euro. With discount code, they were 95.40 euro. For Black November, the big sale really I suppose, the price us 95 euro. Its pathetic really.

The best McGuirks discount code is typing 'CLUBHOUSEGOLF.CO.UK' in your search bar.

I'll go to them for clubs because I can physically see/try them. Other than that, everything else I get comes from Clubhouse.

I'd have always tried to support an Irish based company but it's getting harder. Even small things like not giving free postage over a certain spend isn't a great way for mcguirks to hold customers. Anything over €120 and it's free delivery with clubhousegolf.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 85 ✭✭soverybored1878

I'm the same and it's disappointing. At the start of the last golf season I bought a new bag for about 350 and it was free delivery. When you factor in delivery costs and custom charges on an item that bulky coming from the UK, it really does make McGuirks look bad.

That said, whenever I've dealt with McGuirks they have always been great. Especially instore. Had my clubs regripped in one of their stores over the weekend and the guy went out of his way to do it as quick as he could because he knew I was playing the next day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,613 ✭✭✭newport2

I think they are mad not to offer free postage above a certain price. The amount of times on websites I've bought additional stuff just to get over a certain spend to qualify for free postage I've lost count of. Pays for itself from a business perspective surely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 121 ✭✭reggie3434

I go clubhouse golf too, better selection for left hand stuff and smaller clothes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,813 ✭✭✭coillcam

There's no customs charges with Clubhouse golf. They've just set themselves up correctly for paying tax etc in Ireland. A big UK outfit should always be more competitive than in Ireland due to economies of scale and purchasing power. McGuirks and Halpenny have the market sewn up here tbf.

What's the story with their returns though? I've never had to post anything back to them.

I've been critical of McGuirks sale prices on here in past but their Black Friday sale is very decent to be fair

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,335 ✭✭✭big_drive

Clubhouse golf with a very good black Friday sale

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 85 ✭✭soverybored1878

Just as an aside - I cannot believe my eyes here. Normal RRP on a PXG wedge is 389 euro?! That's insane and don't even get me started on the looks 🤢

Golfsure10 is working again now that the sale is over. Unfortunately it doesn't work on already discounted items any more, it used to.
