yesterday was the 25th anniversary of over the edge 1999 which is known for the death of Owen hart. Today is the 25th anniversary of the tribute episode of raw which was a tribute to him.

Owen is only remembered fondly because he died so tragically when in fact he was a bit of dick in reality like most wrestlers.

    Regards,

    P.

a bit of a dick ? That’s complete rubbish or else all his peers said he was one of the nicest guys on the roster. So your “in fact” is just your opinion.

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭Patrick Mahomes

I doubt Austin thinks he is a nice guy.

So THAT’s your reason for stating as fact that he “was a dick” ? Well that’s great logic. That was obviously an awful listed Owen hart made but given he didn’t hurt another wrestler as far as I know.

I hardly doubt Tony khan would have invested so much into the Owen Hart cup for someone who was a “bit of a dick”

Don't know if it's been mentioned or relevant but Aer Lingus are flying direct to Vegas from Sept 2024. Picked up my flights for Wrestlemania. Hated the stop overs so glad they now have direct flights.

Former WWE wrestler Gable Steveson, Olympic wrestling gold medalist, signing with Bills as DT.

He won gold at the 2020 Olympics and is a 2x NCAA wrestling national champion.

It would be interesting to see the reaction if Rebecca Quin walked through the Forbidden Door on June 30th.

Could Chad Gable do the "batista i quit i quit' in the Raw ring and then show up in AEW

Going to the Smashing Pumpkins Monday in the 3Arena

The new series about Billy Corgan and the NWA is a bit wacky. He means well but maybe the world of Pro Wrestling is not for him

Mad that Ricochet and Andrade two of the best workers in wrestling have been relegated to 3 minute matches on Twitter/X. Hopefully for both it leads to bigger things down the road a bit.

    P.

At what point can Andrade expect bigger things down the road? He's not really caught on in either of the 2 main American promotions. There are some very good workers that are midcarders, it's just the way business goes.

Nattie could be a free agent in time to participate in the Owen Hart Cup in AEW.

I wouldn’t mind seeing her go free agent for a while and work with AEW, TNA, NJPW etc she has a world of experience that she could pass on.

My promotion crowned our first champion, Matthew Justice following a several month long tournament last week in Portland. Amazing show in which he defeated Lince Dorado who was being assisted by his hired gun Krule. Great start to the summer so looking forward to the next shows and some new faces showing up!

While watching this week's Who killed WCW, they mentioned how Russo didn't have a buffer between him and what went on tv, like Vince McMahon would've been.

So it got me wondering if you were the buffer between Tony or HHH and what makes it to tv, what would you tell them to pull back on or rethink?

I can't really think of anything for WWE. Not saying it's perfect but he does seem to be course correcting a lot. I think he needs to review The Bloodline. I know they've lost Roman and Jimmy but bringing in the other 2 all seems to be rushing things.

For AEW, personally I think Tony could do with watching the WCW series himself at times. Like one of the points brought up is the likes of Bret questioning "Why are we doing this?" Like how many matches are just random with no context?

    Random topic...

But does Mark Henry have a little bit of the ol' racism in him?

You keep hearing about the talent he found or helped but like 99% of the time they are all black.

Like, look, I get it on one hand. He's probably a proud black man who wants the industry to have more stars of African decent. Its just... you would think giving people the opportunity based on talent rather than race would be the correct thing.

I am only saying this because if it was someone else, known for just helping white people they would be totally cancelled lol.

Watched this week's Speed, which I keep forgetting about and I see next week's match is Ilja Dragunov vs Carmelo Hayes. Considering these guys have had good long matches before, having a 3 minute limit to it seems strange.

And I don't know why, if they want it to be a thing, they don't have the championship on their other shows. Maybe it's to do with how it's recorded So while Andrade is champ now, he could lose at the next taping but would still have to keep the title on tv until the loss is released on twitter.

I was thinking today. WWE/F at its lowest in 1995. I often wonder was this a run on from the peaks and troughs of things or could it have been good.

Let’s say instead of the occupation gimmicks we had an attitude era a few years early. Would it have worked or was it destined to suck either way.

I actually think its started picking up in 95. 94 was worse. Owen KOTR, two Undertakers, Luger, Doink etc.

WWF was good in 1994 and 1995 but you are right, 1995 is considered the worst year money-wise in WWF/E history. One thing that rarely gets mentioned is Nash was champion for most of that year - November 94 to November 95 but does not get slated for it. He himself has mocked Bret Hart for being the "400 grand champion" around that time period (That Bret could not draw) but Nash himself couldnt.

Overall, and to quote Abe Simpson "it was the style at the time" - After the steroid scandal people turned off wrestling and WWF went in a different direction trying to distance themselves from the previous era. Looking back, the whole name "new generation" was a way to distance themselves. If they adopted a more edgy'er style that happened a few years later that probably would have bombed.

I am a firm believer that WWF took what ECW was doing (and even WCW) with how their content was geared towards adults and copied it. Without them, a WWF pre-attitude era probably would have sucked.

Flair couldn't even draw a year or two before that as WWF champ. There was a feeling in the early to mid 90s that wrestling as a mainstream attraction was over.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,869 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

There's a lot to be said for that. It truly was of it's time. That fact Hogan/Warrior and the larger than life muscle characters sit shoulder to shoulder with the mainstream 80s actions stars isn't a coincidence.

Paul E. stated ECW rose aside the grunge movement and peoples changing tastes. Likewise piggy backing on that the WWE Attitude era was riding with Nu-Metal and the MTV2 stuff.

From an international fans point of view would 'Minneapolis' be a bit meh for a 'WrestleMania' ?

LA, Vegas, New Jersey/New York, Phili etc much bigger names and experiences on 'paper'

It’s funny seeing it reported that HR departments are dealing with wrestler's. I’d love to know how a HR department would have dealt with issues of the past like Randy Orton and his bulling of Divas or The Miz’s issues or Vince helping Snuka get away with murder.

    Regards,

    P.
