With getting Team Penske caught out with fiddling with push-to-pass buttons, then Penske immediately winning with McLaughlin at the weekend and then a popular upcoming American driver getting sacked while recovering from injury it's been a pretty grim week for Indycar

What a disaster for Malukas you definitely see him ending up in that number 51 Dale Coyne car with funding from his dad for some of the oval races in the 2nd half of the season

After about 25 minutes of laps this morning, Day 1 has been lost to rain.

Tomorrow has been adjusted to start two hours earlier at 3pm, and run through to the original closing time of 11pm. Presumably Sky F1 schedule will be adjusted to cover this extended period.

Another one, and the first flip of the month

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

    Veekay binned it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,061 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

Stunning comeback at the death from Veekay to make into the Fast 12

Those Chevy engines look like pain in backside with these plenum fires if they don't resolve that issue today could be more drama, Canapino was particularly screwed on his final run as he was on track to make top 6

Also that rookie Kyle Larson looks like he has some talent

Very very bad news I have discovered on the schedules today — Sky Sports are going to miss the first hour of pre-race coverage.

Pre-race starts next Sunday at 4pm (with the green flag at 5:45pm); but Sky in their infinite wisdom have instead decided that we only deserve our earliest coverage option at 5pm on SSMix after some Super League.

Excitement building for pole and bump day,

With Katherine Legge currently fastest of the bump 4 ,is there anything to stop Katherine from qualifying Dale Coyne stablemate Siegels car so both DCR cars make the race?

Three Penskes, two McLarens, and Santino for the fast six.

    Savage speed by Scotty Mac.

I see Larson headed off on a chopper for the NASCAR event this evening. It's a fair old trip from Indianapolis to North Wilkesboro Speedway.

I think the formal announcement is to come later today, but this is Sky's solution to the massive TV broadcast clash:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,061 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

Weather forecasts for Indianapolis are indicating it's looking increasingly likely Sunday is going to be affected by rain, hard to know yet if there will be delay in start, disrupted running or an outright washout forcing it to Monday. Arrow McLaren and Hendrick will have to get all of their contingency plans ready for Larson's car it would be a massive shame with his 5th place start if he can't run on the Sunday

The 500 has been a pretty good run with weather for a while now so disruption probably overdue, the last year the 500 was shortened race due to rain was Dario Franchitti's first win in 2007 and the last time the race did not run on the Sunday was Arie Luyendyk's win in 1997 that was run over two days on both Monday and Tuesday

Latest forecast is rain 2 hours before the race , talk of TK driving (but has to undertake refresher laps) or Nolan Siegel , though the Henderick stance of Charlotte taking priority seems to be softening a little .

If the Kyle Larson cannot race at Indy ,whoever takes over the car will apparently start 33rd , the precedence been set last year when Graham Rahal took over Stefan Wilsons car......the rules still say you qualify the car not thr driver iirc

Starting grid image for tomorrow. Or at least what we hope will be tomorrow.

EDIT: Oh wow, Vanilla has really wrecked the resolution of that image. Well, it's on Reddit in full if you want.

Kyle Larrson doing great on the changeover

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,061 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

Current Indianapolis forecast indicating rain storms will start about an hour into the race somewhere around 2pm local time, then there is a break in weather for around 3 hours which gives about 90 minutes to dry the track so maybe another hour of running before storms hits again around 6pm local-time which will end the days running, cavaet is bad weather can change very rapidly off forecast in that area

With 101 laps as a official race finish there is a high chance this will become an shortened race finish today at 140-180 laps with a wild must-lead race approaching 100 laps

Hendrick Motorsports have Justin Allgaier on-standby to replace Larson for Charlotte so it looks like they are all-in on Larson for the Indy 500 today

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,756 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

Allgair was very fast in the Charlotte Xfinity race yesterday but - His Usual Mistake or 2 let him down , should have really won the race

Stands are empty. Can't see this starting on time

Was looking at lightning maps earlier on and the amount of hits around Missouri was mad. It's all moved over by Indy now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,061 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

Bucketing now at Speedway looks nasty, despite the break forecasted later in the afternoon you would have doubts about how many laps they will be able to run today

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,505 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Just tuned in, will the race go ahead today?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,638 ✭✭✭deafroadrunner

realistically if it stopped raining now. How long would it take to dry track and get pre show nonsense out of the way.
Could race be scrapped and run tomorrow instead

Larson won't make his second race

looking like rain mostly past now

just needs to dry out a bit

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,505 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Does the track have to be bone dry before they can race?

What’s the aversion to driving on a damp track anyway? They do it in F1

Three Honda engines gone in the race at 57 laps of 200. Another caution. Lots of strategies from the cautions.

It wasn't just damn there the track had turned into a lake. They also don't do wet tires in nascar and the cars are set up different. I also think there was a concern for lightening reason why the people were evacuated. A few F1 have stopped due to rain was it last year or the year before a race only had a few laps behind a safety car. Also wet tires are for a wet track not a saturated lake track

Another caution. Seems like the track is beginning to get slippery
