    If Donegal win tomorrow and Clare lose then the Donegal v Clare game would be a pointless dead rubber.

    Mayo are trying to beat roscommon for a 3rd time this year,that doesn't happen often.Im not a gambler but I see Mayo are favourites for this game somehow.....in Hyde Park.....with 2 of our best 3 players out for the season.

    I hate to say it but I think roscommon will win this one.

    Roscommon have had a really poor year. Poor league, anaemic display against Mayo in Hyde park in the championship. Another display going through the motions against the Dubs. It's hard to see where a performance will come from even against a faltering Mayo. They need to throw off the shackles and go for it. Davy Byrnes style is too safe for Roscommon who have the forwards to take anyone on in a shootout.

    For all the complaints about Dublin walking Leinster each year doesn’t excuse how poor Meath and especially Kildare are. Kildare just don’t want to tell Ryan and team where to go due to their history.

    Yes,roscommon are sh1te and davey Burke has been fairly found out and I think he's lost the dressing room.However they are always up for playing Mayo and are targeting this game,if they have any pride at all they'll get a performance today and that could be enough to see off Mayo.If this was their first meeting this year I'd fancy Mayo (even with their injuries) but its a difficult ask to beat your local rival 3 times in a year.

    Donnacha McHugh has destroyed Enda Smith in both games already, you would expect roscommon to have a plan for that this time around (if they don't that's fairly pathetic)

    Moral can't be great in Mayo either having lost 2 of their best players (and captain) for the season in the space of a week.

    Believe me,I hope I'm wrong on this but if I was a betting man this would be my tip of the day.

    Cork having a right rattle off Donegal with 2 goals in minute at the start of the second half.

    3-05 v 0-09 after 10 second half minutes.

    Obligatory the Double is On

    Pity that Cork v Donegal game not on tv. Always had the look of a good game. Instead RTE decide to show Meath v Kerry tomorrow who nobody thinks will be in any way competetive.

    Ulster football is vastly overrated.

    What a win for Cork.

    Donegal on a run of around 12 in a row.

    You never know what you are going to get from Cork but 2 wins from 2 is Unreal !!!

    Donegal will beat Clare comfortably next round. Cork tough game v Tyrone.

    I've always maintained Ulster teams are overrated. If u had Kerry or Dublin in Ulster it would be exactly the same as Munster and Leinster at present.

    Delighted for Cork and and hope it quietens the ridiculous hype around Donegal and McGuinness.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,926 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

    This mini league format suits them. They beat Louth and Mayo last year, and in between only lost to Kerry by two points.

    They beat Roscommon in the Preliminary QF, but lost out to Derry in the QF.

    This defeat will give Donegal ammunition to reset and go again. McGuinness will use it to their advantage. That's Donegal's get out of jail card used up. Best off losing now in group game than in knock out football. They remain a dangerous team.

    I was at the Derry game in Croker. So annoying, we eventually got going, scored a goal and thought we might kick on - but conceeded a goal minutes later and that knowcked the stuffing out of them.

    It's surprising Cork footballers have such a poor record of winning All Irelands. The culture is strong especially west Cork and Nemo. Only a 30% success rate out of 23 All Ireland finals winning 7 and losing 16 is nowhere near good enough for a county with so many clubs and players.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,926 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

    Only the group winners get straight into a QF. Last years four Preliminary QF's were Galway v Mayo, Donegal v Tyrone, Cork v Roscommon and Monaghan v Kildare. With Dublin, Kerry, Derry and Armagh waiting for the winners. Take nothing for granted.

    If two teams finish on same points in group how is it decided who tops group?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,508 ✭✭✭typhoony

    You know that GAA has well and truely given the fans the 2 fingers when you read on here a fan saying his radio is cutting out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,926 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

    Same as for the League. And it could be more than two teams, and for places other than group winner.

    League Ordering

    When Teams finish with equal points for Qualification for the Concluding Stages, or for
    Promotion or Relegation, the tie shall be decided by the following means and in the order
    specified:

    (i) Where two Teams only are involved - the outcome of the meeting of the two Teams in the previous game in the Competition;
    (ii) Scoring Difference (subtracting the total Scores Against from total Scores For);
    (iii) Highest Total Score For;
    (iv) Highest Total Goals For;
    (v) A Play-Off.

    The self annoionted title of greatest fans in the GAA for Mayo has been well and truly exposed this year anyway. Did even 3k of them make short trip over to Roscommon today?

    Lack of money isnt even an excuse, the 3 game package for a mere 50 quid was exceptional value

    Cork are an odd team though. They could be brilliant one day and the next day you would wonder what they are at. The general football support in Cork reflects this as well (in my experience) they are sort of ambivalent to what happens.

    Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

    Cork beat Donegal.

    Tip beat Wexford.

    Waterford beat Longford.

    Limerick beat London.

    Add in Kerry and Munster looks like a very strong football province 😁
