A man attacked and wounded several people with a knife on Friday at the market square in the city of Mannheim in southwest Germany. Five people taking part in a rally organised by Pax Europa, a campaign group against radical Islam, were wounded in the attack.

The policeman was "stabbed several times in the area of the head" while trying to intervene, local police said in a statement. Immediately following the attack, he underwent "emergency surgery and was put in an artificial coma", but "died of his injuries", police said

Last thread closed to prevent discussion of the background of the attacker and its implications, so expect the same here in a few minutes

There was an interesting discussion about the changing demographics of German cities and its impact

    RTE meticulously crafted that headline

That's one version but I saw a video on twitter from another angle where it seems like the policeman tackled the guy in the blue jacket who had mistakenly attacked an innocent bystander.

(The video below may be upsetting, so don't click on it if you don't want to see it. I don't know how to do spolier tags for twitter.)

Reem Alsalem UNSR Violence Against Women and Girls@UNSRVAW "Very concerned about these statements by the IOC at Paris2024 There are multiple international treaties and national constitutions that specifically refer to#women and their fundamental rights to equality and non-discrimination, so the world has a pretty good idea of what women -and men for that matter- are. Also, how can one assess whether fairness and justice has been reached if we do not know who we are being fair and just to?"

Correct. It was pandemonium once the lad with the knife attacked though. Sad to see the cop die. It just goes to show how quickly these things can happen once it kicks off. The cop looked like a huge guy but the human body is fragile.

Video I sas a few days ago was fantastic quality and really gave you a fair view of it all. That is a rarity. The one of Gearge Nchenku in Blanch a few years back was not, and yet people claimed it was all they needed to determine if his shooting dead by Gardai in Blancharstown was justified. Its been several years but FINALLY our police have bodycams.

RIP to the Deutsch cop and god love the stabbed and visibly bleeding victim he was arresting.

Jesus Christ. I regret looking at that video. RIP to the unfortunate policeman, likely leaving a young family fatherless.

Meanwhile. the German authorities are deeply concerned with young people singing L’amour toujours in bars and nightclubs. Priorities..

    Theyve banned it at Octoberfest...

    F**king hell.

Stabbing the cop in the back of the head when he wasn't even looking at him.

    Sub human scum.

I believe it’s because the guy in blue had gotten hold of the knife by the time the other police arrived, so they had to detain him initially.

It turned into another outpouring of frustration at the inability of elements of Islam to integrate into western societies who have done nothing but welcome them over the last few decades despite repeated acts of unprovoked barbarism.

If somebody said to me that all Muslims are just like the guy who carried out that attack I'd tell them to cop on, however it is not racist to identify correctly that his actions were predicated on his religious beliefs and how much of an issue that is at a time when unprecedented numbers of other young guys from similar backgrounds/countries are generously being granted asylum in Europe, asylum that is not granted to them by their neighbouring Islamic nations it should be pointed out.

I'm gutted for that cop, his family and colleagues, the attack on him was animalistic and beyond comprehension.

There is an enormous issue with fundamentalist Islam in Europe and fear of causing offence can't continue to allow a breeding ground for this type of thing to happen.

What happened in the end? Was it just a couple of hunters out poaching or was there more to it?

    Yes it is.

He had a very brief opportunity to react. In the split seconds and chaos he made a decision and it worked out badly.

Im very opposed to more mid-east immigration in europe, but the sht ive seen about this incident, relishing in the guys one poor decision as though he personally was going out of his way to implement woke politics and got what he deserved is just so lame.

I wouldn't associate with the losers who are giggling at the death of someone who was doing an important job and made one bad split second call. The guy who he pushed off the jihadi was (rightly) boxing the head off our bearded pal on the ground. The default of the police is to stop that kind of thing, regardless, because they just can't know whats going down in the split seconds. Nobody could.

Im glad the other officer put a round right in the beards chest, hope it hurt and glad hes gone as a problem.

    The RTÉ headline 😂😂

Great post. If there’s one positive outcome here, it’s the female police officer permanently neutralising that savage.

    It's at parody levels now.

We've reached a point where any discussion of the bleedin obvious is forbidden.

Got this from a link from the Wikipedia article on it, via Google translate

The public prosecutor assumes that 38-year-old Andreas S. shot both police officers near Ulmet on January 31. They had originally accused 32-year-old Florian V. of also shooting. The public prosecutor dropped this accusation against Florian V. on Tuesday. They now accuse Andreas S. of having committed both murders. He is a trained marksman. Andreas S.'s fingerprints were found on both weapons, a shotgun used to kill the 24-year-old police cadet and a hunting rifle from which three shots were fired that fatally hit the 29-year-old police officer. But none of Florian V.'s. The latter remains in custody, however. The public prosecutor now accuses the 32-year-old of commercial poaching at night and obstruction of justice. His lawyer Christian Kessler said: "This new arrest warrant is obviously unlawful" because it is not justified in view of the expected punishment for his client.

If it wasn't a Muslim or an immigrant then no.

This is another low point for integration in Europe. How many more lives will be lost before the inevitable change.

The officer was stabbed several times in the head and neck.

A 25-year-old suspect from Afghanistan was shot and wounded at the scene.

He remains in hospital and a judge has ordered he be held on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police and prosecutors have not publicly suggested any possible motive for the attack.

However, it happened during an event organised by German far-right group Pax Europa.

  • The question has to be asked and I certainly think it's a valid one in today's environment.

How ready would the Gardai be to respond to a similar incident in one of our population centres?

I wouldn't have much faith - they could barely protect our Taoiseach from some eejits today.

RIP to the police officer. The attack was brutal.

As we saw with the recent mass stabbing in Austrailia. When a white man does it, then it is a case of an isolated incident down to mental health but when a Muslim person is the perpretrator it is a case that they are all the same and they can't integrate.

Are you accusing @suvigirl of deflecting? 😂

This stabbing was another low point for Europe.

Would the Parnell Square stabbings in Dublin in November 2023 be closet to happen here which then lead to the riots and that whole incident was handled badly, unprepared Gardai etc.,

We don't really have lads in Ireland who stand out openly talking bad about islam. No doubt their lives would be in danger so will take a very brave man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,891 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

So if people talk bad of Islam they are fair game to be attacked?

The Catholic Church has been ripped to bits with criticism for decades but you don't see catholics stabbing indiscriminately or driving vans through crowds.

They need to learn to accept a bit of criticism without going nuclear.
