Unexpected final in Monte Carlo after Tsitsipas defeats Sinner and Ruud gets his first ever win over Djoko.

Nadal still rusty based on clips I saw of the match with De Minaur not surprising.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

I had read Raducanu had hit a bit of form finally (good results at BJK).

Beating Kerber (who is now 36) decent, i am watching her now against Noskova (a tougher challenge i would think)...she absolutely tonked her in the first set 6-0, very impressive.

    Raducanu through 6-0 7-5 impressive.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,544 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

Think it's the first time she's won four consecutive matches since winning the US Open. Swiatek up next so no real pressure on her really, just swing away and you never know.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,544 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

Garbine Muguruza has officially announced her retirement. No surprise really since she hasn't played since the beginning of last year. Strange career in a way, massive highs and massive lows, should never have lost that Australian Open final to Kenin.

Lovely to see Nadal getting a big win against DeMinaur in front of a home crowd.

Is the sound way out of sync for anyone else watching on Sky?

I'm watching on the laptop, but I've started the app about three times now and it's still miles out of whack. Was fine earlier….

Thiem has confirmed he's retiring at the end of the season ☹️

Sad, but he's been flogging a dead horse, like Murray. He hit the best shot I've ever seen live with a rocket tweener down the line at the AO2018.

Djokovic comfortably beaten by Alejandro Tabilo 6-2, 6-3 in Italian open.

Once the players start smelling blood the older players aren’t as intimidating as they used to be. You might see ND, Nadal and Murray go this year with Thiem.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,544 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

Nadal took a heavy loss to Hurkacz also, 6-1 6-3. Not that surprising I guess, but still shows how far he's fallen. With question marks over Sinner and Alcaraz, Roland Garros could be more open this year.

Murray testing a Yonex racquet. Why would he bother this late in his career?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,218 ✭✭✭✭josip

Maybe the same reason Federer changed to Uniqlo in 2018 🙂?

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,034 Mod ✭✭✭✭whiterebel

Uniqlo is clothing. Changing racquet is a very different. Look how long it took Fed to change up to the 97 inch Pro Staff, it quite possibly cost him quite a few slams.

Swiatek-Sabalenka final coming up now in Rome, could be a great match after their fantastic three-setter in the Madrid final. Hoping for a reversal of the result.

Can't say I'm too excited about the Zverev-Jarry final tomorrow, but hoping Jarry can win. Very nearly had an all-Chilean final after Tabilo lost in the SF's.

Somewhat surprisingly, Djokovic has a wildcard into Geneva where he has a bye into the second round as the top seed. Will play Murray if Murray can get past Yannick Hanfmann.

    Some interesting results at Nottingham.

    Raducanu winning a few matches!

Cameron Norrie beaten by someone I must admit I have never heard of called Jack Pinnington Jones (he is 21 seemingly plays for TCU who Norrie used to play for) so Jack Draper will be new british number 1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

A good win for Draper over Tiafoe...a lot of aces (31 in total).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Draper into Stuttgart final after comfortable win over Nakashima. Berrettini in the final (great to see him climbing the rankings).

If his fitness holds up could be a very tricky opponent at Wimbledon.

Raducanu walkover so into semi with Boulter.

The Draper Berrettini match was really good! One set all after Draper won second set tiebreak, Draper edged third set. First atp title for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Andy Murray wins in three sets against Popyrin!

Alcaraz solid in bits I saw against Cerundolo, in form Draper next!

Surprise win for Billy Harris against Tomas Etcheverry

Murray retires injured at Queens, less than two weeks to Wimbledon... oh dear....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭camz09

Does anyone know if the Federer documentary is showing on Amazon Prime Video that includes Ireland?? Weirdly it's not advertised or searchable on the app at all..

Out on June 20th looking at the trailer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Draper taken first set of alcaraz at Queens...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,627 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Was watching Sinner playing fabulously on Sky, saw this and turned over.... 5-2 in second 😱

And he has won second set 6-3 and the match huge win for him very impressive!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Another decent win for Billy Harris against Mpetshi Perricard (jeepers he is tall!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Draper v Paul is a very good contest, tight. Draper levels up taking second set into a third!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Not a massive surprise but confirmed that Murray out of Wimbledon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,173 ✭✭✭Augme

A terrible pity he didn't get to sign off on the court.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,173 ✭✭✭Augme

It's now been clarified that his withdrawal isn't confirmed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

I saw that apologies meant to post again. Surgery on his back I really doubt he will make it alas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Very decent win for Katie Boulter against Ostapenko at Eastbourne.

Raducanu down an early break against Pegula.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Raducanu fighting back...lost tight first set...but won an even tighter second battled back from breaks and saved a match point, it is her first set ever against a top 10 opponent!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Raducanu finally gets it over the line against Pegula. Breaks of serves all over the shop at end of third set.

Billy Harris levels up one set all against Max Purcell.

If he can win this match he would possibly creep into the top 100. Not bad at all, has a wild card for Wimbledon as well. Not to be alas but an amazing few weeks for him.

Rafael Nadal moves into the semi-finals of the Swedish Open after a hard-fought win against Mariano Navone. (6-7 7-5 7-5)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

He lost in a one sided final but a few tough battles to make it there by the looks of it.

Still not a bad result for him to reach the final after a first-round exit at the French Open.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

    Definitely not.

Berrettini also continuing his upturn in form with winning the swiss open and has nudged back inside the top 50

Murray definitely, definitely, definitely last tournament at the Olympics……

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,544 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

Sinner and Rune both out of the Olympics with tonsillitis and wrist injuries respectively. Disappointing the world #1 won't be there, methinks he'd be playing if it was a grand slam. Hopefully there won't be too many more withdrawals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,356 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Murray pulled out of the singles but still playing doubles (given how that went at Wimbledon I wouldn't be hopeful for a medal). Is this not kind of selfish plenty of strong doubles and singles players that could have been picked?

I admire his determination to give things a go but really he should have retired at least a couple of years back, and with the benefit of hindsight he could have just called it a day after his surgery in 2018.
