I see the Dept are redesigning AgFood. Most of us use it fairly frequently and I'm sure like the rest of ye it needed an overhaul. I can't understand why you cannot access certain pages on a phone.

You can only access the survey via the Dept's twitter page which in itself is a pain in the ass for those who don't have a twitter account which IMO demonstrates the Dept's lack of understanding and care about their clientele.

EDIT to add direct link to EU Survey -

You get a text message about correspondence on agfood.

You go to agfood and can't find it.

    Agfood needs a notification tab

Also on the side menu there is Tabs for items long obsoleted

why do you have to keep resetting your password on agfood?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,368 ✭✭✭✭Base price

In fairness I've never had to reset my password on agfood and I've been using it since it came online.

Haven't Reset mine in a few years. When I had a senior moment and forgot pac while trying to do a movement

Password setup is not good. Entering a Pin then your password as if its some form of two factor authentication which it isn't. Then it has a reset button for feck knows why other than you can't log in with your proper id and password because you entered something wrong on the previous attempt.

Too many old links remain too.

The TAMS section is obfuscate and complicated so that you need to pay someone to decrypt it for you.

The herd section only shows 10 rows at a time (I think) and doesn't remember if you set it to display more rows at a time or how you want them ordered.

Registering calves, for some dumb reason your bull tag number never displays so you endup having to go to the icbf website to get the number because getting the number in agfood means loosing alll the data that you filled into the form.

Ah and the worst of all, entering agfood.agriculture.gov.ie in the web browser address bar brings you to a denied/forbiddden page so you end up having to google search the agfood log in to get a link to the log in page

Haven't used it in years. Use herdwatch for everything.

If farming in a Company, you need 2 different logins. I can never make out the difference and can never find the correct login page for each type.

Then woth one of them, if you haven't logged in with over a month, you're locked out and you have to ring Dublin for a new password...its muck.

  • Registered Users Posts: 696 ✭✭✭farmertipp

that's exactly what I meant. what's the reason I don't know. I don't have to change log in for bank account and that's more important. makes no sense

Once you enter the bull’s tag number or AI code once you can save it for future use

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,843 ✭✭✭Lime Tree Farm

That hasn't been my experience with ticking the save option on 2 stock bulls and AI on maiden heifers. Most annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭Jb1989

Same. Might save it to end off session but definitely not there the next time I log in

  • Registered Users Posts: 171 ✭✭massey 265

Didnt know that you become locked out if not using ag food for a month, rhat must be reason i cant log on at the sometimes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,420 ✭✭✭tractorporn

There are two version of Agfood one is for individual log ins and the other for agents, ie Companies, advisors and Department staff. The password for the agent login needs a different password every 6 weeks and will lock you out after a period of inactivity I'm not sure how long it is tho.

Agfood needs to look more like herdwatch and less like it was designed by someone who had never met a farmer before.

Your in a company so ..........😁🤣

    It's extremely annoying 😑 😒

only works for that session, if you go out of the site then you loose it

It needs a search feature as well. The timed log out is a pain in the arse.
I spent a good hour last night looking for a mutilation derogation application form to dehorn/castrate calves. The calves could be 6 months old before I’d ever find it.
10 animals per page on the herd profile is ridiculous, even icbf lets you scroll down through the herd on one page.
Font size could be bigger too, the average age of a farmer these days is around 60, most of us need glasses. I have never tried logging on to agfood with the phone, if I did I would need a full bottle of whiskey to sedate me, as it is a generous glass usually does me for the laptop.
Registering calves might be easier if you could upload a photo of the tag?

The menu at the start is very long too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,122 ✭✭✭alps

    Even the questionnaire!!

How do you answer the above?

I fairness you can have all cattle on the list when on phone login. See entry selection in middle of mine. Pick 10. 15. 25. Or all.

I clicked yes to that question and I reckon there are several other people who also help out local farmers using Agfood be it birth notifications etc. I register calves for a few local farmers on their Agfood account but I don't get involved in their SFP/BISS etc applications. They pay their Ag consultant to do that.

I kept seeing 2 questions in that, that I couldn't put 1 answer to...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,843 ✭✭✭Lime Tree Farm

I don't have a problem registering calves on it, the calf number is shown, enter the last 4 digits of the cow tag, pity the last 4 digits for the stock bull doesn't bring up his tag number too. I only noticed lately that the stock bulls have a LM code number, maybe that would suffice instead of keying in full tag number.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,368 ✭✭✭✭Base price

I only have the one stock bull and all I do is key in the first three digits of his tag number ie - 372…. The full tag number automatically shows up and I click on it to accept. Now having said that it could be something to do with the way my laptop is configured?

Actually now that you mention AI codes - I register calves for a local dairy farmer and once a AI code is input it will show again. Having said that you have to be very careful in selecting the correct code/bull from the list.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,833 ✭✭✭✭Say my name

It's trying to get bulls on the list and off the list is the problem. An angus is on the list from a few years ago and I can't get a Lim bull on the list for this years calves. I've to type in the lim bulls full tag number and then tick the save sire details or whatever that box is and then it'll work for that session registering calves. But if a montbeliarde calf comes in among the lims then I've the type in the full tag number again for the next lim calf.

Could you have your monties born on Monday and your Angus in Tuesday and then your Limousin on Wednesday? (They hold longer anyway..)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,843 ✭✭✭Lime Tree Farm

Better to have the bull number saved in an xl sheet, then copy and paste

The main thing Agfood needs, and this would absolutely make the likes of herdwatch obsolete, would to make an app. Everything is on apps these days, it's so out of date in that respect. At the very least make a mobile friendly website that doesn't involve awkward zooming in.

In terms of design overhaul, there are so many different ways to simplify things. Users should be allowed to customise their home menus to suit the schemes and systems they are in. Far too many links and sections that are irrelevant to people. There are also far too many old scheme links that seem to stay on the interface for some reason.

It would be so easy if they bothered their hole to outsource a project like this to someone with app development experience but knowing the department it'll be a long stupid drawn out process and it won't work the way we want it to in the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,833 ✭✭✭✭Say my name

Possibly. But I wouldn't like to hold the bulls to schedule like that since it's not their fault just a website.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,711 Mod ✭✭✭✭blue5000

SMN I reckon you need a bottle of whiskey too. I used to register all the calves with the one bull together, then move on to the second bull to register his calves.

I have HerdWatch and you cant do BISS or any other DAFM schemes on HerdWatch you need to use AgFood. You can do animal movements etc on HerdWatch.

It's a bit of a scam in this country and one the European Commission should be looking at if the governments online service is being made deliberately opaque to give a commercial company the edge in doing essential online work for farmers.

The whole idea of pushing farmers online was to make things easier not make money for a favoured business.

I use MyGovId to log in, much handier and if you need to back track or leave the page you're on, you don't have to go through the login process again.

I did the survey, but it doesn't really capture the overhaul that's needed. I usually don't venture much onto agfood up till a couple of weeks ago after seeing this thread. It is woeful. I've spent time going through it and wrote up a report with observations/issues I'd seen/stupid things they do/etc and mailed it off to them as well.
