Caught the last 15 mins of the Dublin v Longford match there on TG4, some kick from the Longford captain to level it late on. They had enough chances to win it though, hope they do it in ET

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,536 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

They hung on and could have won it, but Dublin should have been out of sight at that stage. Extra time, the break will probably allow Dublin to settle and they'll likely win it by a few points, but they were rattled at the end there. Saved by the bell really.

Brilliant result for Longford, they wasted a few chances early in ET and Dublin went 2 up but Longford pegged them back and deserved the win

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,654 ✭✭✭MacDanger

Only 13 minor teams in Longford apparently, some going to win a Leinster from that pick

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,987 ✭✭✭blackcard

This is a day that will be remembered for a long time in Longford. I am sure that similar could be said for Carlow when they drew with my own county, Kilkenny, recently. You would have to be happy for their supporterz.

Yes great win for Longford. Although against my own county a win like this is extra special for one of the so called minnows of the game who don't have a big pick and this is a great reward for all the hard work put in the county. Congrats to Longford great achievement.

Minor hasn't been the problem for Longford, it's been developing them to senior.

Every 10 years or so, there is a Lainster final in them, 2002,10,15,and now 24. They've won 3 finals in this period.

They haven't been competitive at senior level in years though, one of the worst teams in the country over the last few years, and zero sign of any improvement-still probably not at rock bottom, but very close is say.

They've won 5 Leinster minors since its inception in 1929. Beat Dublin in first one in 1929 and tonight first one in 14 years. Whats seldom is wonderful.

Tipperary V Clare to be shown on RTE News Now, Galway V Dublin and Limerick V Waterford on RTE 2. Kilkenny V Wexford on GAA GO. Not sure about Antrim V Carlow

Picture quality for Tipp vs Clare will probably be unwatchable

Leinster U20 hurling final, Dublin v Offaly, this evening on TG4.

You must be very young if you think RTE news is unwatchable. Certainly weren't alive for the days of terrestrial RV connections on 21 inch or less non flat screen TVs.

Especially in the summer when between every play someone had to climb on to the caravan roof to fix the aerial.

C’mon. I’m talking about the News Now channel in comparison to the quality of the normal ones.

I’m not thick - I know we’ll what TV used to be like, but times have changed.

The picture quality in those days was better than the standard definition rubbish like News Now and Virgin channels on Saorview.

The reasoning given for having the group draw so early was so that games could be planned, etc. What's the reason now for not planning the 2nd round of games? Esp with a BH weekend, it makes it v difficult for supporters to plan

Very similar quality you would get on the regular Sky Sport SD broadcast many here are calling for, and they were being asked to pay 30E for that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,536 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

Again with the pundits on the GAA GO.

Game in Dublin, lads in Ballybofey.…how cabn You assess shape and off the ball movement watching a stream on TV 150 miles away??

What's the deal with the Saturday Game highlights on the player??

Was out of action die to a family event yesterday, so missed the live games. Turned on the player to catchup this morning, and the highlights are from last week's games??

What's the story there? Is it a rights issue, or just shoddy RTE behavior? I could watch the Champions League alright, no bother there.

It's fine for me (watching yesterdays Ros v Mayo game now), so either there was a problem earlier and they loaded the wrong program, or else there is something weird happening on your PC.

Up on the App now, eventually. Seemingly just shoddy uploading on RTEs part, sure time enough....

If I'd know it was going to be a Midwest Radio/Mayo love in with Kevin and (ya know) Cora (ya know) Staunton droning on (ya know) about how great Mayo were(ya know) i wouldn't have bothered (ya know)....

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,536 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

hmmm’ that lad Fitzmaurice name checking the commentator every input coupled with the most boring delivery ever heard on air on National Radio would outdo those two by a lot.

The shadows in Croker make it very difficult to follow the ball.

Not strictly GAA coverage related, but RTEs obsession with the oval ball caused a big own goal last night, with live coverage of a run of the mill 'Celtic League' game preferred to live coverage of athletics championships, missing out on live coverage of the relay gold medal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,135 ✭✭✭zetecescort

If the athletics was shown and we didn't win a medal people would be cribbing about a showing a minority sport on TV. People just love complaining and it's easy be wise afterwards

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,774 ✭✭✭deezell

'Celtic league' ? Are you referring to the URC championship, the one where yesterday, an Italian side came very close to dumping out a South African side playing brilliant open rugby? I didn't see any decendents of Finn McCool or any other Celtic warrior on either team, though there might have been some in the encounter in Thomand Park that you complain about, a two hour broadcast event which you say shouldn't displace a three minute race? No complaints to VM though about the boring England slogfest on VM3, also preffered to the live athletics (which were available on multiple streams if you really wanted). Personally, I would have preferred to watch Shels v Dundalk, but there was no Friday night Soccer either, and I don't have a LOITV subscription, so the Munster match was good entertainment

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,774 ✭✭✭deezell

I dunno, I think their music, especially 'Apache', would be a great soundtrack to the Dublin trashing yesterday. Every time you hear 🎶 Dong ding, de-dong dong ding, de-dong dong diiiiing.. 🎶 you'd know a Kilkenny score was coming.

I don't believe Virgin have the rights to the Athletics, which RTE do, and while they pretend they were interested in the GAA rights, that has been misproven and nobody really believed them I. The first place,so mention of them is moot in this context.

My point was that RTE had rights to both, and prioritized the rugby coverage over the athletics, just illustrates where the editorial priorities are.

My Celtic League comment was slightly facetious, there are also a few South African teams added and the league was rebranded several times in recent years. If people are complaining about meaningless games in the football championship, they ought to see the amount of meaningless games in the URC.

Anyway, my point was about editorial decision making and inherent bias within RTE.
