I think that point was fair, the odds were strictly bad value.

More generally though, I just keep reading negative posts on this team all year. Their regular season was objectively great; and they are now in the ECF as strong favs with a minimum of fuss. The psychology of this stuff is interesting - the expectation level is obviously so high that Boston fans can't properly appreciate it.

Any word on a GMT approx. time for the G7 of Nuggets/TWolves?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

It will be 20:30 if Knicks win tonight, otherwise it will be 00:30

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭Corvo

    LETS GO KNICKS!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Worst 7 game series ever? No close games and decider over before halftime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Jokic is probably not going to get near LeBron / Jordan. I don’t expect him to get held to the LeBron standard for this loss either, inspite of surrendering the largest ever lead to lose in a game 7 in NBA history (can you imagine?).

Going to multiple Finals is just really hard, that’s the reality of it. We’re going to have 7 different winners in 7 different seasons for the first time ever.

As is, Minny / Dallas / Indiana / Celtics a pretty meh final four. Not a great runout for an organisation in the middle of tv negotiations.

Celtics should seal the deal from here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭Corvo

Was genuinely worried for Minnesota at times last night, it felt like far too many possessions were ending up with Gobert in the post and that isn't a recipe for winning, despite his Jordan-esque fadeaway later in the game!

But credit to them, they ground out that win, though I think Malone didn't help his team by not giving Jokic some time on the bench earlier in the game and he was clearly gassed by the end.

Hope Celtics/Pacers is a decent series but I have feeling Celtics will dispose them easily enough.

Id love to see Luka take over from here. Mavs/Wolves should be fun.

Overtime in Boston. Jaylen Brown with a ridiculous three to get it there.

omg, pacers had this, they messed up, great shot by Brown to be fair but they had the game, not confident on overtime for them but let’s see

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Celtics turn it on in the last minute of OT to get it done. They played well tonight, worked well together, if they were at what they've been doing for most of the playoffs they'd have lost tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭Corvo

Haliburton was awful down the stretch but don't want to take away credit from Jrue either who forced a bad turnover from him also late on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,434 ✭✭✭✭Liam O

This one worth staying up for. Naz Reid going off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,385 ✭✭✭Jack Daw

Incredible from Luka, you just knew after his missed that 3 a couple of possessions before that he was going to nail the game winner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,087 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

Well it looks like a Celtics Mavericks finals. As a Celtics fan I'd be happier with Dallas rather than the Timberwolves size. On the down side it would be very disheartening to see Kyrie win a championship against the Celtics

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Well the much maligned (in this thread) Boston Celtics cruise through the Eastern Conference in 14 games total, sans Porzingis.

This has been about as smooth a run to the Finals as you’ll ever see since October. An exceptional offseason to an exceptional season to a very easy conference championship. Kudos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

I’d like to say it was more complicated there than Boston just having more talent down the stretch, but I’m not sure it’s the case. Clutch 3s from Tatum and White and great defense from Brown. They just had more on the floor in each possession last 5 minutes. And this is without Porzingis.

Carlisle made some key mistakes and Indiana really should have won at least one of games 1 and 3 but it doesn’t matter. The obviously best team advances.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,087 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

the 1/1.30am starts are really making it tough to watch the games here. I will make more of an effort for the finals.

Good to see the timber wolves extend it. Who knows, could be the first 3-0 down comeback !!

Supposedly Bronny is back to being speculated as a potential late first rounder.

A whole new level of nepo-rostering that would make Thanasis blush.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,087 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

not sure if any truth to it, but apparently 76's has the cap space for Lebron, and are willing to take Bronny in too ….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

I think the most likely outcome is LeBron opts out, Lakers draft Bronny and LeBron signs for the 3 year max that the Lakers have offered.

If that all happens I think it locks the Lakers out of a Title next few years. LeBron has done well to date for his contract not to become a negative one, but a 3 year super max for a 40 year old is going to be directly in opposition to winning titles.

If LeBron wanted to prioritise winning over all else, he would opt out and go somewhere else like Philly for a 1 year deal at no more than ~$20m, and leave the Bronny aspect out of it. But that's easy for all of us to say. Another ~$180m is a significant chunk of change for someone with the post career ambitions LeBron holds, as is the legacy of being able to play at the NBA level with his son.

The Lakers have been consistent on this through the years - they pay their stars and they want the limelight on the Staples Centre, value be damned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,087 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

i know he is in fine fettle , but at his age the drop off in his physical condition will be fairly quick and steep. I'm all for the Lakers throwing away any chance of success for the next 3 years, but the Lakers surely cannot be too happy with it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Doncic on fire in the first quarter, draining them from everywhere. He's got 20 points with three minutes still left in the quarter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

The NBA finals are set. An easy night for the Mavs, cruised through.

Doncic and Irving were fantastic tonight. Their rookie, Lively, is making a huge difference. He's a great one already, he's making excellent decisions in every game now. A real team player.

Well I've gotten my wish so far!

Very exciting finals match-up now and most importantly both teams are going into it relatively healthy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,087 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

    Numbers to watch

If you like 3s, this finals matchup is for you. The Celtics led the NBA in 3s made and attempted this season. The Mavericks were second in 3s attempted and third in 3s made per game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Its not easy to stop this Mavs team scoring. Boston have started well and hopefully that continues. Kyrie worries me though, he might just feel he needs to put in a big one in Boston.

Porzingis is making a big difference so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Porzingis 11 points 3 rebounds and 3 blocks in the first quarter.

    Celtics lead by 17.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

This one could be over quickly if the Celtics keep up the level they were at on both ends of the floor.

It kinda felt like the Celtics were coasting last night, just doing enough to win it. I honestly can't see them losing a game. This is the best I've seen them in the playoffs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,087 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

I tried to stay awake, but woke at 5 on the couch. Great to see them win. They now seem to be trying to find ways of cutting Tatum down, thou he and Brown have been such better team players this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭Corvo

Their defense is just so solid and they caused so many issues with regards turnovers (I think they scored 20+ points off of turnovers alone), they are great in transition to go along with it.

I can't see them losing a game from now on either, but obviously would like to see a competitive series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,369 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    Jrue is the key here.

Even with so many scoring options, I would still fear that Luka and Kyrie can do enough damage to outscore them. But not if he, and the rest of the Celtics defence, keep this going.

obviously Game 3 is a must-win for the Mavs or it's over. Even for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

The keys are Tatum and Brown. They create so much havoc that all of the starting five are capable of scoring 20+ points. Jrue strolled to the basket a few times last night because of Brown and Tatum.

Defensively it's very difficult for the opposition. Jrue is doing a fantastic job but the return of Porzingis has been a huge factor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Dan Hurley turned down the Lakers job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭Corvo

Great result for UConn and I think Hurley is probably right to turn it down, he can always get back into the NBA with a team who hasn't flogged numerous managers in recent years.

They did do a good job keeping the Hurley approach under wraps, which makes me think they may have another choice that isn't being bandied about the usual media circles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Doesn't sound like it will be JJ Redick anyway

The choice of Hurley seemed a bit mad to me, given their intention is surely to keep LeBron.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Porzingis hurt again. It won't be as easy without him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,087 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

I would be confident they can win 2 out of 5 against Dallas, even without Porzingis

RIP Jerry west. The NBA hall of famer died at the age of 86 today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Cruising 21 points up then Pritchard comes in, down to 11 points. 🙄

    Get him out now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Boston Celtics just a hugely dominant team. The consternation over one lucky shooting night from each of Miami and Cleveland seems mad in retrospect. I suppose people need to see to believe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭Corvo

Checked my Spotify podcast feed and seen Simmons and Doc Rivers

    Nope

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

    aha

I’d imagine he’ll be particularly insufferable next year.

Celtics nearly let it go last night. It got down to three points with four minutes left and then Doncic fouled out which made it a lot easier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,369 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

That performance will follow Doncic around for a while.

Massive fan of his, but some of that was embarrassing. His defence has been repeatedly targeted, and he just hasn't been up to it, and his response is too complain incessantly and flop instead of getting back on defence.

    A bad one.

Woj now reporting that JJ Redick is the front runner and will formally interview

Also, for those who believe in miracles, Dallas can be got at 25/1 to win the series. I'd probably want a bit more
