Just been out to check mine - no mobile coverage at home so need to take an expectational trip down the road to get a signal.

Nothing on 5k (last win November €50).

Wake me up when it's all over.

I just cashed in the last of my Prize Bonds, I'll probably buy more in the future but for now the money was needed elsewhere.

I've been keeping an excel spreadsheet to track my winnings against expected returns. I had a decent start when starting off in October 2020, followed by a long barren spell. Things improved a bit after the rate increase last October and I've had an excellent last 10 weeks during which I've won 40% of my total winnings. Below is a summary of my expected winnings with average luck vs my actual winnings:

    Expected Winnings = €1,123 , Actual Winnings = €1,125.

Remarkable how the figures are so close. Also nice to have beaten the expected winnings, even if it was only by a whopping €2. It was in the negative at almost -€270 as recently as late March of this year.

rang them yesterday after still receiving nothing

i explained that their website not accept my information when trying to get the state savings number as i wanted to buy more bonds. the girl on the phone didn't know anything… but then at least admitted she was in training. she checked with her superior a couple of times and told me then that they have now set it up and in 2 days i will be able to go into a post office and buy bonds with just my pps number.

grand, but why did i not get a state savings number like other people are getting… no answer to that at all

told me to write to them to get one

i told her i shouldn't have to fill out more forms or write letters when i have already done what is required… few clicks later and she told me i would get it in the post in a couple of days

then mucking around with online after, i realised i could do it online, but they have basically left the ' out of my surname and put a space in instead and also used my middle name as part of my first name… i didn't follow through because its supposedly in the post now, but might be useful to others. they really should just look at pps number and match up from there.

found some old bonds i knew i had tucked away in a drawer, talking 1992, 2003, 2014, 2017. not a lot but a few hundreds worth. anyone know how i can check if they ever won anything as they have old address on them.

i assume i can add them to my account once i get it all set up online?

€75 win last week, I have to wait now until the letter arrives rather than looking it up online, I also have to ring them now (going through the whole press button 1 palaver before getting through) to find out what the winning prize bond was, the lad said twas no bother ringing him to find out, I guess it's keeping somebody in a job.

Prize Bond bought in October 2020

Had a €75 win in May as well (first under their new regime), bought in July 2020

    Winnings 2012 €150

    Winnings 2013 €200

Previously there was a specific screen for checking Unclaimed and Uncashed Prizes, but it looks like this has been removed. You could try entering the bond numbers on the following screen, in the boxes under "Check My Numbers"

I am beginning to think the prize bond draw is a total joke now. I have a six figure sum invested in prize bonds and in the first 3 months of this year I have won €900 in prizes. Every 2 weeks without fail I have been winning €75, sometimes €75x2. At the end of March I sent in a form requesting my winnings to be paid into my bank account instead of reinvestment bonds. My last win was €75 on 12th April and since then all prizes have stopped. 9 weeks now with no win. I rang the prize bonds office and was told "It was the luck of the draw". I think its time now to cash in all my prize bonds.

    Winnings on 21st June 2024: €0

    Last win 7th July 2023: €50

Total winnings on €25k from Feb 2011 to date: €3300

    2012: €75 x 6 = €450

    2013: €50 x 12 = €600

    2014: €50 x 9 = €450

    2015: €50 x 5 = €250

    2016: €50 x 5 = €250

    2017: €50 x 4 = €200

    2018: €50 x 2 = €100

    2019: €50 x 6 = €300

    2020: €50 x 5 = €250

    2021: €50 x 1 = €50

    2022: €50 x 1 = €50

    2023: €50 x 1 = €50

    2024: €0 x 0 = €0

€75 for me today. From my €10K bunch which had not won for 6 years. I gave a bit more of the history on Page 308. Last four wins all in June, slight coincidence.

Nothing for me today, 10 weeks now without a win. This has never happened before. Can they stop bonds from being entered into the draw because I contacted them to complain?

Short answer no; long answer do you seriously think that they give a damn about your complaint enough to risk their job and more simply to try to block you? This is with all the risks that would involve in terms of programming, rule breaking, policy breaches, leaving tracks in systems etc. that would show up for other people to see. Sorry to break your bubble but you're not that important that a group of people (because they once who can do it are for sure not the once you've spoken with) would risk their job over it because you complained.

See my previous post about winning prizes every 2 weeks for the first 3 months of this year, a total of €900, and last year a total of €1600.00, so what other explanation is there for all winnings to have ceased as soon as I sent in that form?.

  • Registered Users Posts: 618 ✭✭✭sportsfan90

    Luck.
What was your total holding during that period? It’s possible that the previous successful period was also an anomaly.

Humans love to see patterns in everything because that's how we're coded for survival; that does not mean it's an actual pattern in reality. You can read about it in for example "The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable" or "Thinking, Fast and Slow: Daniel Kahneman" but it's not an actual pattern; it's simply random chance that happen to occur that look to you like a pattern based on to few observance points.

Final paragraph from John Lowe financial advisor of Money Doctors:

    https://www.rte.ie/lifestyle/living/2024/0619/1455598-financial-advisors-tips-for-creating-lasting-wealth/

"One final thought: don’t forget the benefits offered by Prize Bonds. These are Government securities which, instead of attracting interest, participate in draws for weekly cash prizes. You can encash these Bonds at any time. The amount of the prize fund is determined as a percentage of the value of the outstanding bonds and the winnings are 100% tax-free.

You can invest as little as €25 and the largest prize is paid monthly - €500,000."

jaysus they don't have make things convoluted and awkward… it's like they don't want anyone to invest

signed up through the online there earlier with the SSN number that I got in the post a couple of days ago

now it's telling me I have to wait for more post and sign a form to send back to them

when they get the form back, they will then send me an email telling me they

are then going to send me a welcome letter with a PIN that I will need to log in.

    FFS… what a PITA
