The way Wicklow are playing I think we have a chance.

Nobody will want to play us.

Wicklow have recovered from two opening losses to make the quarter-finals. Derry, Westmeath, Roscommon, Cavan, Clare and Meath will be looking to do something similar in the All-Ireland.

    Fermanagh v Antrim
    Sligo v Limerick
    Down v Wicklow
    Kildare v Laois

Happy enough with that as a Laois supporter, not least for the length of the drive it could have been 😂.

That Down-Wicklow match could be an ugly score-line

Antrim, Sligo, Down and Kildare to progress.

Thats surely the end of the road for Limerick.

If there is a bit of interest in the local derby, it might have to be switched out of Kildare. Carlow would be the obvious choice if it is available. The powers that be in Croke Park have the final say. They were OK with Kildare playing Longford at Hawkfield.

"The GAA has approved the Hawkfield venue, which regularly hosts the county's hurlers and women's footballers, as the attendance is predicted to be less than 80% of its maximum capacity (1,500)."

All the teams left were either div 3 in the leauge, relegated to Div3 or promoted to Div 3, I think I'm right in saying that shouldn't be much between any of them in those knockout games, there is no huge gulf in class at play.

A more up to date form guide is available on Laoisman11's football ranking thread. The only big mismatch is Down 13 v Wicklow 24. Down scored 8-16 against Laois last year at the Semi Final stage.

    The others could be close in theory. Fermanagh 19 v Antrim 21. Sligo 18 v Limerick 22. Kildare 17 v Laois 23.

    Saturday 15 June
Fermanagh v Antrim, Brewster Park, 6pm
Sligo v Limerick, Markievicz Park, 5pm
Down v Wicklow, Pairc Esler, 4.30pm - GAAGO

    Sunday 16 June

Hard to see anything other than 4 home wins. An upset somewhere would be ideal, it's the making of knockout competitions. As Gaa becomes more professional in approach, upsets are becoming like hens teeth unfortunately.

Where the last eight finished in the league this spring.

    Fermanagh 7th in Div 2

    Kildare 8th in Div 2

    Down 1st in Div 3

    Sligo 4th in Div 3

    Antrim 5th in Div 3

    Wicklow 7th in Div 3

    Limerick 8th in Div 3

    Laois 1st in Div 4

I can't see Limerick winning in Sligo but we've had a good run. Hopefully give a good account of themselves up there. The league run was awful and Munster wasn't much better this year.

Would have been a long winter if they hadn't gotten those few wins. Hopefully something to build on.

At the start of the 2023 National League, Limerick were in Division 2 and Sligo were in Division 4.

What Billy Lee done for that team was insane. His reign started with 50 players opting out and he "did the best with what he had" way beyond any reasonable expectation.

Since then we had a player revolt against his successor, another bunch of opt-outs. Jimmy Lee has done what he can to steady the ship but all the momentum is gone.

If you took a look at some of the movements of teams up and down the divisions in the past decade it is fascinating. Derry for example went from 1 to 4 and back up to 1 again in something like 8 years. I think Gallagher took them on when they were in 4 and started the revival. Westmeath had a similar drop from 1. The leauge table doesnt lie and is an accurate reflection of your footballing level. Colm Collins took Clare from 4 to 3 winning 3 and consolidated in 2 for nearly 8 years. As a hurling county Clare were at their maximum staying in 2. Collins had every footballer in the county vying to get into the squad and the set up was first class, they made a couple of drives to get to 1 but they were maxed out in 2. Its a brilliant competition that should be played in more favourable time of the year weather wise.

    3 quarter-finals on today

    and 1 tomorrow

Down, Kildare and Sligo all big favourites but the all-Ulster tie this evening looks to be competitive.

Was at the Sligo Limerick game, was a bit of a procession, wasn't sure what to expect but Limerick were really poor.

No need for a draw to get the semi final pairings. It will be Down v Sligo and Antrim v Laois/Kildare. Double header in Croke Park Sunday 23rd. If Laois come through it will be 3 of the last 4 from last year.

wexford gaa are trying to get the all ireland hurling 1/4 finals moved to the sunday and the tailteann cup semi finals put back to the saturday , the reason for this is they are hosting the feille competitions on saturday and sunday morning ,

there is a special central council meeting tomorrow to determine what happens

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,921 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Won't happen and rightly so. Dublin and Clare fans will have already bought their train and bus tickets to the game so it would be a terrible decision to change the games now.

derek kent is driving this , he has serious power in the gaa central council i wouldnt be surprised if he gets his way , it would be completely wrong if he dose as it undermines a scheduled landmark day in the football calendar , the examiner were reporting that a coin toss could take place if all parties cant agree on it ,

Looking like a Kildare vs Down final so.

dont rule out antrim in the semi final , that was a fine win in Enniskillen tonight , not to mention how close they came to beating meath in last years semi finals

mcintee doesn't do himself many favors at times on the line with referees or even with the media , but he is a very good coach and is getting a serious tune out of this antrim team

Since I'm cheering on Laois in Tullamore tomorrow I'm hoping you're wrong lol.

So where's handy to park in Tullamore for the match?
