Where gangs of thugs can roam the streets with knuckledusters and attack innocent by standers cause they're foreign?

    Cause that's what's happening.

Apparently a spate of this on Talbot St recently.

"Context is that far-right scum have been randomly making up kidnapping stories and attacking foreign men in public. Never ever a shred of evidence. That’s what you are seeing here. Regardless - attacking a migrant and screaming kill him and murder him doesn’t need context"

If you're not convinced, watch that clip with the sound on.

    Yes, that's a knuckleduster.

Saw that on X, but that's not really an explanation of what the context is though. We can see what is happening in the clip, but context would be what actually happened before that.

How is it not possible to have boiling contempt for that north Dublin chav culture when watching this?

A culture that many city councillors actively seek to either protect or endorse.

    Nothing happened.

The context is gangs of thugs are setting upon foreign nationals whilst yelling out, "he tried to kidnap a child" in attempt to feign justification for their voicing (or conveying) their discontent with immigration.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,251 ✭✭✭MegamanBoo

    Absolutely disgusting.

It's still thankfully a fairly small group but they've gotten out of hand in this country.

Didn't look so small to me during the Dublin riots recently.

Looked like an entire subculture exploiting the opportunity to be thugs given the slightest opportunity.

This is rife in Dublin (and let's face it, across the entire national culture). Always there just beneath the surface, full of self pity and entitlement.

Maybe, maybe not, but I wouldn't take at face value a tweet from from a pro immigration twitter account.

But lets face it, that part of the city centre is a disaster for public safety. The level of criminality that the authorities turn a blind eye to is shocking. Scumbags will be scumbags, they don't care about the nationality of the people they bully, intimidate or assault.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,251 ✭✭✭MegamanBoo

I did say fairly small. Thankfully the far-right don't have the same type of wider support here as has been the case in some parts of Europe.

But it's a serious problem and there are a sizable amount of these thugs involved.

With AGS stretched as they are, and our laws I would think outdated around hate crimes and domestic terrorism, it's very worrying.

I worry it's being treated in a very blasé manner by out government. Lots of comments about this and that being unacceptable but no concrete change or action.

Is it really a north Dublin thing? There are plenty of these scumbags in Tallaght and Clondalkin.

I think it's that part of society in Ireland which has no perspectives on the housing market, is increasingly frustrated and angered and seeing also that immigrants are taking their housing.

The problem won't go away, and certainly not if there are less Guards on the streets.

Really need a couple of more prisons and put everyone with more than 1 conviction for violent or sexual crime away for 20 years.

    Is this Tablet street?

I was reading about plans to spend millions, to gentrify the street and make it safer.

What a joke. There needs to be Garda presence here 24/7.

The government and Garda have been turning a blind eye to this type of thuggery for to long for it to be just incompetence. The Garda have a very active covert surveillance wing which has assets everywhere and in all political groupings yet they can't arrest a bunch of arsonists and thugs.

This part of the city has always been occupied by dodgy scrotes. I’ve worked in many deprived areas and this was by far the worst for having feral elements dominate so much street life.
Taking likes of Dublin 8, there was always a mix of cultures from long, long back, and friendships formed between people of different backgrounds. However Dublin 1 has been pretty much exclusively Dublin working class people who haven’t got to socialise at any level with other cultures, and have become tribal, and with a long tradition of feral behaviour this is a heady mix for explosive behaviour.
Of course there are tons of very solid good people living here, it’s just over-represented by a less socially functional sector of society.

Do you think these lads attacking people for being foreign are worried about the housing crisis? And is that some sort of excuse?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,799 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

This is what happens when people get their news and validation exclusively from social media and scummy racist propaganda outlets like Gript

In the UK in the 70s it was right wing tabloids like the Sun and the Daily mail that pushed this propaganda. Now it's twitter, Facebook and Gript

I found it interesting when I lived in Dublin that even after generations removed from living in the city centre you'd find Dubs that would still identify by which streets their parents or grandparents came from before relocating out when the tenements were being demolished.

It was kinda of like county jersey, but on a street level.

You'd find that there's still strong familial links that transcend where they live now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,761 ✭✭✭tinytobe

    Yes, I think so.

They are taking out their anger and frustration on foreigners.

Either they identify foreigners visually, looking foreign, or by hearing a foreign language.

Foreigners coming to Ireland are certainly not responsible for the lack of construction and the limited supply, but they certainly contribute to the demand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,951 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

Ah sorry now, I don't believe it for a second!

Scumbags are scumbags. Anyone going around attacking foreigners or anyone for that matter, are just scumbags.

    No excuses

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,123 ✭✭✭Backstreet Moyes

I mean it's going to just get worse unless the goverment do something.

Their are people walking the streets who should be in jail because we don't have enough prison space.

Yet they are increasing the population while not increasing prison space.

These scumbags should be locked up but will more than likely be still walking the streets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,761 ✭✭✭tinytobe

You don't have to believe that. However there is always a reason for everything.

I've never found the North Inner city in Dublin nice. Maybe in the late Eighteen hundreds it would have been nice?

Considering streets are now being closed off entirely because of criminal behaviour wouldn't it make more sense to block off a few more streets as a prison entirely?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,005 ✭✭✭✭Danzy

It is the free market fanatics who want to bring in people at levels that no govt or society can ever build houses for or provide public services for that are ultimately to blame. They label it solidarity and internationalism but it is extreme Free market, in a way no living person has seen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,002 ✭✭✭ToweringPerformance

So if someone attempts to snatch a child and get's broke up by a few men there's no excuse for that in your eyes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,005 ✭✭✭✭Danzy

Ye have moved on from the gulag and gas chamber?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,412 ✭✭✭✭endacl

Ah, yeah. Sure I’d let them live out their pointless lives. Just want to prevent them spawning.

    W ho

Who is snatching children? I haven't seen any reports of attempted abductions anywhere?

And no, I don't believe in vigilantism. If someone breaks a law, then they can be detained and handed to authorities.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,418 ✭✭✭Quitelife

Free legal aid solicitors think these thugs are great lads and tell the judges that so nothing ever happens these people until they kill someone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,761 ✭✭✭tinytobe

The language is further evidence that it's also the feeling of "is this the Ireland we live in now?".

I don't think the words Gulag or Gas Chamber were used 7 or 10 years ago to describe a challenge or problem.

Inner city Dublin is beyond disgusting at this stage.

Streets are filthy, businesses are closing, shop fronts boarded up, Human and animal waste is common place. Idle natives and imports competing for space.

Government, councils and law enforcement have completely abdicated any responsibility as far as I can see

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,819 ✭✭✭✭Thelonious Monk

It's the dregs of the inner city doing what they have always done. New target is foreigners for their hatred and to blame for their awful lives. Nothing that new really as I remember some addicts giving out about refugees getting free cars etc. in what must have been 1999 on Abbey St.

I really hope the Garda investigate this and throw the book at them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭Potatoeman

Child induction is a very specific thing to accuse this guy of, it was also a woman saying this to him and grabbing him at the beginning. Something here doesn’t add up. The twitter account goes right to racism but none of the attackers mentioned nationality, they are saying he’s trying to abduct children.

Irish citizen of asian descent here( Filipino) Ive lived in Ireland for over 20 yrs now, my wife works as a director of nursing for the hse and I lead an opd department in one of the healthcare facilities here in Dublin, Ive got in laws that are Irish, my kids are into sports and they race abroad and they both race for leinster and both are hoping to wear the green someday.

I volunteer and coach kids in our club and both me and my wife also volunteer as medics for club sporting events as both of us are first aid trained as part of our work

I recently went with a mate of mine out for a bite near Stephens green, He is an IT consultant and he is also an Irish citizen of asian descent and his daughter is a junior doctor, His family has been here for nearly 50 yrs , while walking towards Ramen bar in Williams St. A mature man stopped in front of us shouted abuse, spat at us and told us to go back where we came from while a group of teenagers cheered him on.

We were angry but we cant match negativity with the same energy so we just walked off and ignored them but it has basically put us off from going into town at this stage.

Another thing, Us as a family were also assaulted in a park last year by a group of youths when we collected our kids from training, we had to get the gards involved in the end but nothing was done after they got identified( my wife took a video that night) As the gards told us the kids parents were junkies or had unstable family dynamics and most the kids apparently had emotional issues and were known already for antisocial behaviour and were going to special schools.

Its just mad because we pay tax, work hard , integrate, not spent a day in social welfare, love the country still gets into the crossfire of all of the migrant issue thats going on now because of our skin color.

Dont get me wrong 99 percent of the residents of this country are sound and that's what made us fall in love with the country, the banter from taxi men , I used to go solo on my motorbike stop kn the middle of nowhere stay over night go to a local pub and you'll have locals buying you drink and chat to you all night, the warmth and friendliness is amazing, my wife's family are based in Italy they have been there for over 40 yrs and i lived most of my life in Vienna before moving here.

Not sure where you've conjored this from but in the real world, Dublin 1 has had an Irish minority for quite some time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,847 ✭✭✭cgcsb

I'm curious do you mean all the area's residents, Roma, African, Arab, Latin American etc. or is your fatwa for ethnic cleansing solely an anti Irish sentiment?

They've been accusing foreigners of abducting children for a while now falsely. Like the gang rape of a child in leixlip etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,847 ✭✭✭cgcsb

Non-fatal crimes in working class communities are typically ignored by the Gardaí in my experience though. So you won't see many reports, just hand written statements, taken begrudgingly and then shredded.

Edit: I'm not saying that the accusation is true, I'm saying it could be (although unlikely in my opinion) and either way, that assault was not justified, it were true they would be justified in holding him there until the gardaí arrived.

Junkies and Roma have made the city centre a no go area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 203 ✭✭Highlighter75

Get a grip. These zonked out junkies haven't a clue about any children being kidnapped or attempted kidnappings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,847 ✭✭✭cgcsb

Irish governments tend to shy away from actual decision making that's the crux of a lot of our issues. The welfare state is at the heart of it really. There are simple solutions but the broad church nature of Irish politics means those solutions can't be adopted because someone would be unhappy.

There should be no unemployment benefit for under 25s, instead greater supports for students (so they can actually study and live) should be implemented and the options for under 25s should be college, training, work or military/public service and that's it, no scratching around with nothing to do. That'd relieve staffing issues also.

Drugs should be dealt with from a health perspective with an emphasis on drying-out and removing addicts geographically from their networks of enablers.

Regarding our imported problems, we only have to remove the incentives. There should be no welfare on offer at all to foreign citizens and Irish citizenship should be only considered with 10 years income tax receipts and a clean record. Joseph Pushka came here from Slovenia and got a free house before committing murder remember.

Crime and punishment: no problem, rent a prison (or spaces in a prison) in Albania (or Turkey, or any such country) send violent offenders there, 20 years minimum for being violent in any situation other than self defence. The Irish ones return on strict conditions, signing on for life. The foreign ones go on a banned for life list.

The state would save a fortune and we'd be about the world's safest country but it takes actual solutions not talk.

Renting foreign prisons now...I've never heard such nonsense.

Jaysus there’s some serious pricks walking the streets of the city l.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,951 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

Your experience is different to mine then, I have found Gardai take crimes like abduction extremely seriously.

We both agree the assault was not justified in any case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,575 ✭✭✭Glencarraig

So some scumbags decided to object to asylum seekers being accommodated on land adjacent to the Ballyogan Recycling Centre which caused the facility to be closed for more than a week. Some brave "volunteer" has decided to set up a tent at the entrance for whatever reason, be it a show of defiance after around eight of their kind were arrested or maybe an attempt to intimidate. They have also decided to drape the Irish flag on the railings opposite to somehow convey the fact that they are Irish "heros", just like the ones who burned Luas trams and Garda vehicles in the so called "battle of O'Connell Street".

I really do wonder what would be the reaction of these people if they somehow found themselves or any of their family members in a situation in a foreign country where they had no accommodation and set up a tent or two only to be moved along and told "you cant stay here". I would imaging they would be screaming about injustice and harassment and beating down the door of the Irish embassy demanding action. I doubt very much if they would attempt to replicate the O'Connell Street behaviour. I assume they would not be that stupid……..oh wait, they might just be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,761 ✭✭✭tinytobe

I think the debate would a very different one, if there was a better and bigger choice of housing for all.

But sadly that's not the case.

As long as choice is either unaffordable or limited, it'll always be a feeling of robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Scumbags have been getting away with violent conduct for decades, no consequences, suspended sentences, off they go on their merry way being scumbags.

The idea that because this is now happening to non nationals that it's a new thing (yeah, scumbags love accusing people of being child molesters, as they're the only thing lower than them) and that it's being orchestrated by "the far right" is laughable.

If we hadn't had such a lax attitude towards sentencing over the last twenty or thirty years we wouldn't be seeing this now.

Social deprivation exacerbates the problem for sure, plus perceptions around the way asylum seekers are being dealt with by the state add fuel to the fire but these type of social problems are endemic in certain parts of this country, and people were happy to turn a blind eye until it started being a useful topic to link to the far right that are supposedly running everything negative in Ireland but can't manage a decent level of support at the ballot box.

    Glazers Out!

What "context" could make this less vile and disgusting…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,806 ✭✭✭GerardKeating

You really think that's what's happening in the video, or the thugs actually care why they are beating the crap out of someone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,406 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

This is one of many unsubstantiated claims of attempted kidnappings posted lately. So it's fair to say it's as nonsensical as the previous ones. At this stage, it's up there with claims of Jewish people poisoning wells. No factual basis but gives a bigoted mob the claim of protecting the common good when they act out violently.
