The playoffs haven’t been great bar a few series, not sure why, maybe because the likes of LeBron, Curry, KD etc dont have a contending team, it all seemed a bit flat.

Fair play to Boston, Iam not a fan but got to give them credit, I just feel like they are a bit meh, not a team people will be talking about in years to come, I know it’s a silly thing to say but I don’t think they are that good, they do have a solid roster but I would love to see them really tested

fair recollection !! what are you doing t here ? my sister had a job with VM ware out there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,087 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

im sorry didnt get 33/1 on them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

They'll have to win a few more to get talked about as a great team like previous Celtics teams and the Lakers teams, the late 80's early 90's Pistons and the Bulls 90's teams.

All this talk about the Mavericks having found something is ridiculous.

The Celtics lost that game because they want to win it in Boston. It ends tonight and I'll predict it'll be a big, big win. 20+ point win tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Champions!!! Hopefully the first of a few consecutive. I'm not confident they'll do it but there's a lot of hope. We thought last year was the start of a Nuggets run but this team is pretty incredible.

Tatum was great tonight, Brown had a great night too but Holiday was the best player on the floor even though the stats won't show that.

I predicted 20+ and it looked likely for a long way but when they knew they had it they slowed down in the last two minutes to win by 18.

Its mad when you think how Mazzulla got the head coaching job. You'd wonder would he have ever got the job if Udoke had got banned earlier than he did.

Jaylen Brown got the finals MVP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,007 ✭✭✭Carcharodon

I agree, I actually thought it was a little disrespectful my the Celtics to lose that game, they totally knew that they would close it out at home.

Not a massive Celtics fan but give credit where credit is due, they were by far the best team all year, they aren’t sexy but very solid, impressed by Brown, really stepped up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,116 ✭✭✭BQQ

glad they gave Brown the mvp - he deserved it.

Crazy shade given to mazzula since he got that job. Might get a bit of respect now, but probably not much

Front office deserve credit too. Trading smart away and getting holiday was key

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

The entire package of players and picks that the Celtics traded for Jrue Holiday, Derrick White and Kristaps Porzingis started a combined 59 NBA games this season. This is Steven’s title in many ways, although the coaching staff and players deserve massive credit for one of the better end to end years in NBA history.

My view is that their dominance this year has been incorrectly downplayed and under appreciated.

Why are you including Derrick White? He's there two years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Because he was a key starter acquired in trade.

I see why you're nitpicking though, given your dreadful assessment of the Celtics pre season above. Hopefully you have now purged that little part of you that wanted the Celtics to fail!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Do you think I care that I got it wrong? 😁

How about you look at your own posts and see how many times you got it wrong? You don't have to worry I'm not going to go back searching for something you got wrong. You know why? Because it's not important.

Its very childish of you to bring up an old post from a time when I was clearly upset about Marcus Smart being traded away. What do you think you are going to get from it, a bad reaction or something? 😭

White was there when we lost to the Heat last year. The additions of Porzingis and Holiday made the difference. Two great moves by Brad Stevens.

As you can see by my post after the game I'm looking forward not back.

Celtics are worthy winners, steamrolled the competition really

    clever trade!

    Reddick new Lakers coach

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,984 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

3 follow up tweets from Woj regarding the trade and no mention yet of any draft compensation going to Chicago, they must be high on Giddey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,916 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Absolutely sickened. Bulls fan since the 90's, AC was a breath of fresh air, absolute hustler that Bulls need so bad. Here's to another season of Zach throwing up bricks, Vooch staying out of the paint, Ball being absolutely dodgy and Demar trying to hold every game together with middy's. Sickened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,434 ✭✭✭✭Liam O

I don't know, it's not like they're contenders right now and Giddey is a lot to get for him. One of them that's win win. He could turn into a game changer for them and Caruso will add to the Thunder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,087 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

is Giddey in the clear after his dalliance with that blond 15 year old ? She did look older , and he said she lied about her age, yet if it was a black basketball player i'm not so sure it would have all been forgiven and forgotten

The Bulls are really aimless. Ball's dead knee has killed this era.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭Corvo

That trade is horrific, I would have thought a first would have been thrown in. OKC must be finally ready to make a push. And about time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭Corvo

As for JJ getting the Lakers job….the less said the better. Is he a Klutch client by any chance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

A good reminder of how the Celtics built a juggernaut with championship equity for such a long period of time.

Having the courage to do the big deal again last summer and build on this platform deserves huge credit. Whether you are a Celtics fan or not, they have been incredibly well run for a long period of time at this point. Don’t forget the delicate handling of the coaching issue too. Kudos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,984 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Wow that's a haul! Fair play to Brooklyn for holding out and getting a return like this.

Makes the Caruso return look all the worse imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭Corvo

Huge haul and yet I still really like it for the Knicks. Be interesting to see what other moves they make.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,984 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

If they re-sign OG (I have to assume they're confident in doing so) then that's one hell of an identity for this squad. Thibs is collecting players he can run for 48 minutes straight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,233 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

I'm pretty sure Hart averaged 49 minutes at one point during the playoffs.

Brunson, DiVincenzo, OG, Randle, Robinson - Hart, Bridges, Hartenstein......they are loaded now the battle for 6th man will be fierce haha.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭Corvo

I haven't reviewed the cap etc. but what's the chances of Randle being moved? Is there a realm of possibility PG13 can go there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,233 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

I seen it mooted about PG but I'd assume the Bridges deal kills that off.

Supposedly they are considering dealing Robinson if they can get a good return.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,984 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Not much more than 12 hours from the draft and basically nothing is set in stone, this class is as hard to call as it was 6 months ago. If nothing else I'm sure tonight's picks will be wild to look back on in 5 years time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,233 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

The Nets are blowing it up anyway. They want Cam Johnson dealt before the draft and have Cam Thomas lead a rebuild.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

So the Nets turn the Durant trade into eight unprotected first round picks. They got Cam Johnson, Crowder and Bogdanovic out of it too. That's nice work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I see Topic went at 12 to the Thunder. His shooting is a question but he's only 18. If that improves he could be the steal of this draft.

Its hard to be really enthused by anybody this year. The guy I liked Zach Edey went ninth to the Grizzlies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,233 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Topic is out for the year according to Presti.

    Full first round:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭Corvo

A poor #1 pick by all standards, I had sneaky bet on Reed Sheppard for #1 at 80/1 but not to be!

Zach Edey probably went a tad early too, though he seems like a good replacement for Steven Adams in a few ways.

Lakers got a fabulous fit in Dalton Knect who was in the Top 10 of a lot of draft boards

Portland did well to get Clingan and Deni Avdija from Washington and could be the main winners of the draft

Feel bad for Sarr ending up in Washington too though…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,984 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

I'm very happy with Portland's business (cursed history with drafting big men aside). Clingan was getting talked about as a potential Top 3 pick and he's probably got the highest floor of anyone in the class. Avdija is better than anyone they could've taken at 14 and he's on a really nice contract too.

OKC got a steal, they're in a position where they have the privilege of drafting someone who's injured for the year without it hurting them, Topic could well be this year's MPJr.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,233 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Shepperd would have made more sense for the Hawks.

Surprised the Heat drafted Ware, wouldn't have thought they were eyeing up Bigs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,233 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

I'm very curious what Portland do with Williams and/or Ayton now. Clingan wasn't drafted to be 3rd string center. That logjams gotta clear now. I assume ye are eyeing up a guard to replace Brogdon but exactly what return ye get for whichever center ye move will be interesting.

I think the C rotation will be Ayton and Clingan, with Duop Reath as the 3rd. I don't think Williams will play for Portland, he'll be traded as soon as he can prove he's healthy. Ayton has 2 years left on his contract so I expect Portland to spend this year testing out their Cs and seeing if Ayton can finally improve, or if Clingan is good enough to let Ayton go.

I don't think they'll trade for another guard, maybe draft one in the second round though. Scoot/Sharpe are the starting backcourt for the future and they still need to figure out what to do with Anfernee Simons, I think this is the year he gets traded.

Next to that there's also Jerami Grant who I think will be gone too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

    That Knicks team is ridiculous.

Brunson, Anunoby, Randle, Bridges and Hartenstein with Hart, Robinson, DiVincenzo and McBride backing them up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,233 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Bronny is a Laker with pick #55.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,916 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Man, he's gonna have it so tough, not good enough to be a Laker and he will constantly be reminded of that. I think LeBron is gonna find out pretty quick that the idea of playing in the nba with his son sounds a lot better than it actually will be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

The scope of LeBron’s career is hard to comprehend sometimes. Playing in the NBA with his son is truly incredible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭Corvo

Has the misfortune of watching some of the "coverage" by ESPN of the draft. Jesus christ, it was awful. A guy in a doctors waiting room surrounded by god knows who. Then you have Malika not being able to pronounce anyones name, Stephen A Smith and Bob Meyers just picking at each other and don't get me started on the Bronny part. They had a commercial during the Celtics pick for god sake. Sooner ESPN goes bust the better but thats wishful thinking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,984 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Bringing Stephen A in gives the whole game away. He has no idea who basically anyone in the draft is and has no problem saying so, the whole broadcast was just set up for the Bronny moment.

If not for Bronny I don't think the y would've split the draft into 2 days at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Should Bronny have been drafted? The question marks over his health have to make it a bad pick. Surely they could have picked him up as an undrafted free agent.

I mean think about it. If the Lakers didn't take him nobody would. The other teams know that the Lakers know all about him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Nate Duncan discussed the pick on his podcast today and their take was he is a reasonable late second round pick, given his tools and athleticism. The USC season was weird due to the health circumstances that preceded it.

Ultimately a father and son playing together in the NBA is really cool, a lot of the hand wringing around the thing that was likely to happen all along will melt away once we see them on the court together.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Well I don't really like it. Whatever chance Bronny has of making it will weaken playing with his father I think. He's a kid and his 40 year old father is better than him. That's not going to help the young man imo.

This is all about LeBron not Bronny.
