Things to do in York

Aside from all the usual stuff, Broadway, Ellis Island, Empire State Building…what I really enjoyed the first time I was there was the Intrepid Air and Space Museum. It's an aircraft carrier docked at pier 86 in Manhattan and if you, or your bf are into military, or machinery, it's an impressive visit which will take up a few hours. The Enterprise Shuttle is there for starry eyed visitors. You also get a chance to get into a submarine docked beside the ship. It's been 10 years since I visited, but these things change very little over time.

The Rail Museum is excellent.

Follow the Roman Walk for the history of Eboricum and visit the Jorvik Centre for history of the Viking city including it's links to Dublin, bit pricey but definitely worth it.

There's also the dungeons, chocolate museum and a boat trip along the Ouse.

Definitely one of my favourite cities in Britain.

Leeds Bradford is the closest, but you have to take a bus to leeds, (£2) then a train/bus to York. (Train about £15 ish return, train takes about 35 mins)

I believe there are direct trains from Manchester airport to York, haven't got one myself, I'd say they take 2 1/2 hours.

Old York, not New York, so to speak.

The rail museum is very good, and it right beside York Station and it is attached to the lovely Principal Hotel.

Betty's Tea Rooms definitely has to be visited; the Shambles and York Minster too. It is a very friendly city to just walk around.
