What do you mean? They are going for 5 in a row! Is it even worth us turning up? Cork barely beat Offaly and Dublin! We all know Limerick are unstoppable in Croke Park, backed by a billionaire, generational team etc!!!

We might just as well fulfil the fixture but what chance do we have…….

  • Registered Users Posts: 943 ✭✭✭Vinnie222

You're the 1 saying Limerick will think they just have to turn up. You don't win 4 in a row by being overconfident. Stupid comment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Jeez I was kidding around relax.

Limerick are bound to think it. It suits us is all I meant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,249 ✭✭✭mossie

There's no way Limerick will think that. Cork have beaten them already this year so they certainly won't be thinking they just have to turn up. Far too experienced for that.

A win today also for Cork Camogie

    Cork 4.22 Dublin 0-5

2-7 from Amy O'Connor and kept Dublin scoreless from open play. Cork play Galway next week in final group game

Job done and nothing more nothing less. A huge improvement will be required against Limerick the next day and that improvement is in us.

    Ugly win!

Dublin were cat! They played for 60min like they were beaten already.

Cork never kicked on. No intensity.

Massive improvement needed against limerick or it could get real ugly!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Look if we lose then i'm sure we can keep the losing margin down to under 10 points! The bottom line is unless we improve on our performances against Offaly and Dublin then the show is over for this year.

There's a huge performance in us against Limerick i'd like to think, but we'll need a bit of luck to see them off as well.

I just worry about our tactics in defence and our lack of defensive organization in general. I just fear that like that all Ireland final in 2021 that they could really go to town on us there.

The Tailteann cup is just a secondary football competition though. They have a right to be on tv but not at the expense of the players competing in the McCarthy cup imo.

Job done. We beat Offaly and Dublin without any type of intensity as they were fairly poor.

We did what we needed to do.

There's alot more in us and I fully expect to be up for the Limerick challenge in a meaningful way - as distinct from today.

    it'll quieten the hype anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,719 ✭✭✭Seadin

Probably better off going in written off, we may perform then but I can't see us getting the good start v Limerick again. That was vital in our last victory.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,119 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

my argument against this narrative is , why not move the rugby to rte news now and change the time of the two hurling games , i cant say too much because our county board wanted it on the sunday , but didnt want to please david kent who went out to screw two of our players during covid

the argument should be why show a rugby game ahead of a gaa game rather then show a tailteann cup game ahead of hurling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,119 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

game was over before dublin started to fight , they were miles off their men and cork took the foot off the gas , it never look liked costing them the game but its highly unlikely to happen again at any time two weeks sunday

Up 1-05 to 0-5 at the half. Haven’t looked potent going forward but snuck in a goal shortly before half time. Scoreline probably a bit flattering at the minute. Fairly desperate game in terms of entertainment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Yes I find the football terrible to watch these days. Only really watch when Cork are involved and maybe the final. They need rule changes desperately.

A word on the GAAGO commentators who don't help matters.

For one, they sound incredibly bored. Which I don't blame them in some ways but they could at least talk up the game more. And second, they seem to love Louth and think Cork are terrible. Both teams doing the same kind of thing in my view. The co commentator was saying at one stage Cork were going nowhere down the side when the player pops it over the bar! This made me laugh out loud!!

desperate stuff, Louth goal has them 2 up with 13 min left

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The White Feather

2 awful misses from Cork since their goal

    Edit: Make that 3

Should have scored 2 goals but now its a draw

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,676 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

In for a point and we go backwards. Christ almighty

Yes, there is a reason why they are called forwards.

never deserved to win that, worst display in a long time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The White Feather

You are dead right. Spent 5 mins holding possession then go forward into final third. 5 secs later our keeper has the ball again. Absolutely brutal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,295 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Shambolic, a disgrace to the jersey.

Just when you think they are improving they let you down time and time again.

No excuse for losing to the likes of Louth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,637 ✭✭✭roshje

I'm afraid it's time for Cleary to go, that was putrid stuff.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,246 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Awful watch. There for the taking. Deserved to lose that. Not enough foward thinking players/tactics, too happy to go backwards and hold possession. Should have drove on and put the game to bed.

No ambition at all shown today. It must come from management when no one has a shot and they pass it around to death. Both teams were bad but Cork just gave them the incentive with endless passing going nowhere and bad misses when they actually had a shot.

Cleary should have been saying stop going backwards when we are in their defence. It is infuriating to watch. Simple basics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,923 ✭✭✭deisedude

That's the kind of loss that loses you your job. Sure Louth were negative but they are minnows, you would expect them to be but jesus Cork were worse. Arsing back and forth with the ball time and again, no ambition. You'd swear they were 4 points ahead when the clock hit 70 and lateral passes with no attempt to do anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,009 ✭✭✭thefa

What got me was that the player who had tried to work a goal from a slim chance and we got nothing from was then the same fella a few minutes later who took the point from Louth’s botched kick out.

To be honest, Cork missed some decent goal chances but Louth had at least one too and were slightly more adventurous when they had the ball. Can’t really complain about the result.

What really hurts for me is how incompetent we are tactically and that’s been the case for years and multiple managers. I’m under no illusions and know we don’t have the personnel at the minute to be challenging for the all Ireland but we played like the underdogs trying to hold a narrow lead at times today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Just when you think the footballers are finally making some progress that happens. We failed to make the quarter finals so the year is a failure.

Congratulations to Louth but that's a devastating result for Cork football. Serious questions have to be asked of everyone after that imo.

It's probably going to be time soon enough to go outside the county when looking for a new manager. The other issue of course is are we producing enough quality footballers in the first place?

The largest county in Ireland with the most clubs, and we've only won three senior all Irelands in football in the last fifty or so years. What a damming statistic that is.

We're probably at least five to six years away from winning a senior football all Ireland as well imo.

that was fair shite from cork today they should give tomas ose a cracking at the job

I think I’ve posted it before, possibly to yourself, but I think the size of the county played its part in getting Cork football to where it is now due to complacency. Well behind the curve in multiple areas behind the scenes like player development and tactics for probably over a decade and we’ve been suffering for the most of a decade now. But sure look at our beautiful stadium!

It’s not that long ago we could nearly play our bench against counties like Louth and have a good chance at the win such was our pick. Now that is our level and I don’t think many counties fear drawing Cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,424 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Not overly bothered about yesterday. It was a no win for hurlers. Kinda glad we are going in with question marks. Limerick should be too good but I do expect Cork performance.

At moment it would be limerick by 4-6 points though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Even that team under Counihan was poor at times with regards to tactics. That team left at least two all Ireland behind them imo. The 1989/1990 team should have won a couple more all Irelands as well. That five year plan that was launched in 2019 was a load of hot air. Just rip the whole thing up and start again, and go outside the county for the next senior football manager. I don't care if it's a Kerry man either!

We appointed John Cleary about ten years too late imo. Please god the hurlers will put up a show against Limerick. If it's yet another Croke Park hiding from them then Cork GAA will be plunged into a very dark place. It's been over ten years since we won a league and Munster title now as well. We've just been a very mediocre footballing county post 2012 sadly.

Well that was awful stuff today...not really surprised though to be honest...you know the real takeaway from me is how shite of a sport Gaelic football is...cannot understand the obsession with it...I really only watch Cork and then the semi finals and final and I keep asking myself why do I do it...it really is awful

  • Registered Users Posts: 764 ✭✭✭Rega

It's the same boring, cowardly tactics at senior, u-20 and minor level this year. It gets you nowhere.

Set out a mandate that we're going to play progressive, kicking football and just bite the bullet and go for it, at all levels. Could we really do any worse than we've done this year?

This brand of football we're trying to play is awful to watch. I used to love going to football games back in the day. I wouldn't waste my time now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,009 ✭✭✭thefa

I’m not sure I grasp the benefits of the current tactics. We end up funneling so much possession down the sidelines that it aids the defence and rarely take advantage of the space left in the middle. All seems very predictable particularly when we seem to only have a handful of players wanting to take shots on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

I think this is the end of John Cleary's term as manager. I could be wrong as well though. If it is then a change of manager is probably needed. We have bigger issues than the manager though. It's blatantly obvious that our development structures aren't up to scratch, and our teams are being coached to play this bullshit negative/defensive style of football from underage level onwards.

He on record to say that he wouldn't take it. They should however plead with him to take the director of football type role That Conor counihan has vacated. He'd be an ideal man to develop under age talent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,719 ✭✭✭Seadin

I fully agree. Hes too laid back and not bold enough on the sideline to make changes. My gripe with him goes back to that Kerry game when we had a great chance to win that game and we blew it thanks to Cleary. I got slated on here that day for saying it but I think looking back it was now justified. One step forward and two steps back with Cork football. They have been frustrating to watch for long time now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,719 ✭✭✭Seadin

Not sure if TOS is the answer he has won nothing with Kerry either on a managerial role.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,005 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

they had a 45 , and another free from the 45 in the final minutes. Also with the wind. Both times it went back wards, and I believe with the goal keeper getting a touch. Is there nobody in the county capable of taking a 45 anymore ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,082 ✭✭✭lukin

This has been the case for a few years now. In 2022 Stephen Sherlock took two 45's against Dublin in Croke Park in the All-Ireland quarter-final and didn't score from either of them. A few weeks later Kerry's Seanie O Se scored from a 55 metre free to beat Dublin.

    That's the difference.

Kevin Walsh in the backroom could be yere biggest issue, very conservative in his outlook, listen to the man talk about his ideas on the game he would bore you to tears, lanes 1 to 8 etc. In fairness he can get teams to a certain level with his defensive approach but it would suck the life out of you to watch. I always associated Cork football with lethal forwards that were constantly smelling goal opportunities, not anymore. The game was there for the winning yesterday around a 5 minute period where the Louth goalie fluffed a short kickout about 3 goal scoring chances presented themselves and all mucked up. Cork teams of old would have put the game to bed there and then.
