All Castle, No Hassle! June 26th

LCD, IDLES, Young Fathers and Sh1t Robot! Magic :) Did not see this coming either, got Gold Circle too...well worth the extra 10 quid or so (I think).

Wednesday though, pity! I'll be on teacher holiday anyway but...first baby is on the way at the end of March so fingers crossed I can attend!

I've just started this playlist if anyone interested:

Is it 11pm curfew? Just trying to figure out set times

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 174 ✭✭Griff77

usually it’s over by 10:45 latest

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,286 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

That's a coincidence that Young Father's are playing support. They also supported Depeche Mode in the same venue this time last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,634 ✭✭✭Hoboo

it won’t go past 11, I’d imagine a bit before, 10.45 seems to be a popular time for outdoor gigs lately

There must be another thread, no way can this be the amount of chat for LCD 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,651 ✭✭✭LowOdour

    Was thinking that myself!

Been looking for stage times breakdown, try and plan out the afternoon.

Are there any decent pubs close by to get some food and a pint before the gig.

Dont know the venue at all or where concert bus drops off, so hoping wont be too much of a walk between areas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 174 ✭✭Griff77

There’s a few pubs in the village, but the concert bus will drop you to the venue about 20 minutes from the nearest pub and Malahide village. This is at the back of the castle and the opposite side to the village. You could get a dart out instead direct to the village.

In the village, all of the pubs have food, the usual stuff. Pick would probably be Gibneys and Duffys for food. The village will be very busy before the gig, so you would want to be down early. It’s about a 20 minute walk back to the venue from the village.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,651 ✭✭✭LowOdour

Ah,thought it was shorter than that. But will be in the area pretty early so might chance the walk.

Expecting Young Fathers on at 6.30 ish

numerous tickets still on sale for this

Going for 40 on TM resale, or even 35 on Toutless.

Probably pick one up for 30 on the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 243 ✭✭Skidrow

Anyone know stage times for LCD SS and supports? Looking forward to seeing all of em.

I'm a First timer for Malahide gig - hope getting there and back to D12 ain't too stressful. Probably Dart best option?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 174 ✭✭mactheknife19

even less then 30, talking to a friend over the weekend with links to Fingal County Council who had a wad of tickets on him. Said did I need any (for free). Not around so didn't take any. Apparently the Malahide gigs have sold very poorly apart from TT. Were even at one point looking to merge Nikki Minaj and SZA but schedules didn't work.

yeah tons of lcd soundsystem freebies being thrown around this week. Been offered ones from 4 different people.
mcd losing a few million on this years malahide series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,163 ✭✭✭Ricosruffneck

Yeah sold my gold ticket some time ago as I anticipated this. Lost a tenner on it. No biggie.

Malahide is just so annoying to get to and back from (Kildare) Think new venues need to be found.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 306 ✭✭T.V Eye

Irish Times have an article saying LCD Soundsystem @7:45pm. Seems.... wrong.

I don't see anyone else giving exact times.

    Nothing official.

I think I'll just get there early to avoid missing Idles.

This is fully linked to promotor greed and point I raised on EP thread. Many of these bands would play summer festivals in other countries all on the same bill. We have sub par line-ups on our major festivals as EP sells out without people waiting for the line-up. Hence bland acts are booked for the festival and then promotors try and fill standalone gigs for acts that should be in EP, ATN, Forest Fest etc.

If this creates an upward quality pressure on our festivals to put us more in line with a European average then it can only be a good thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,137 ✭✭✭crl84

Saw that IT article yesterday, definitely wrong. Presume they've just copied and pasted from some other gig. 20:30 is the absolute earliest LCD will be on.

point I’ve said before is that it’s the artist/their agent who decide what offers to accept and their Irish promoter merely gave them options for the summer for when they are in europe. Promoter cannot force an act to play EP nor can they make a band change their summer touring plans.
Also as malahide ticket sales have shown this year, some of these artists are no longer at EP headliner level or they fan base is not what the EP wants to target.

frankly it looks like a pain in the hole from anywhere that’s not malahide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,163 ✭✭✭Ricosruffneck

Which sucks as it's where the big acts from Glastonbury will end up playing in Ireland (mainly)

    ….

That what put me off. Looking at the times there I'd never make it for Young Fathers and I'd struggle to get home afterwards

If this was a Saturday in, say, Kilmainham then I'm sure it would have done a lot better

looks warm but could rain https://www.yr.no/en/forecast/hourly-table/2-2962725/Ireland/Leinster/Fingal/Malahide?i=1 prefer a few clouds with the lack of shade there

anyone driven in recently? Is it very awkward? . I’m going to be tied up with work and can’t make the train I’d need to take.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,244 ✭✭✭Stillill42

Mh missus drove us last year for Depeche Mode. Bit of a pain getting in but positioned ourselves at the gate for the ladt couple of encores and were out like ninjas, clean as a whistle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,996 ✭✭✭✭fits

    that was a great gig

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭rockterrain

Your point doesn't really hold water. The fact certain acts don't play EP has nothing to do with their summer touring plans or "forcing" a band to play. It's deliberate. This is proven by the genre of acts playing EP.

Also, surely when a band doesn't sell out Malahide it makes them an ideal band to play as part of a festival bill? The fact you use this point to make a case for them NOT playing EP is laughable.

Finally, you previously justified the poor quality of EP headliners with the fact they headlined or would have ability to headline 3arena. Yet the Malahide capacity is larger than 3Arena so obviously there's a belief these artists can draw a crowd.

On "not a fanbase that EP wants to target" what does this even mean? A fanbase that likes some some variety and a higher calibre of taste? I think you're discrediting the youth of today to say all they deserve is the drivel on the current EP line-up. Was at Liam Gallagher last night and there was a big age mix. This is an attempt by promotors to water down the festival quality and add in additional stand alone gigs to the point of saturation in a bid to maximise profits. It seems happy however to have finally backfired.

We drove from d12 last year... home in 35 mins after Blur.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,405 ✭✭✭hold my beer

I'm gonna try bus and DART. Do they do any extra capacity on DARTs? What time is last one back towards Dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,852 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

I think they'll put on extra darts, they did for the killers gig a few years back. There was a decent queue but there were loads of trains on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 306 ✭✭T.V Eye

Jaysus. There's resale tickets up on TM for 35 euro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,314 ✭✭✭Fanirish

sure there is hundreds if not thousands of tickets being given away free for it.

That was always going to happen. Wednesday in Malahide is not an appealing proposition for a lot of people. If it had been Saturday or Sunday myself and some mates would definitely have gone. None of us are bothering with it.

That plus it's basically the same gig as 5 years ago. If they hadn't been in Malahide playing almost the same setlist then, it would have made this more attractive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 316 ✭✭Jambonjunior

Are marathon strict with bus times out? I'm not sure when I'll be able to get off work

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,474 ✭✭✭Mrs Shuttleworth

Their cover of Harry Nilsson's "Jump Into The Fire" is on some recent setlists. If they play it should be worth the trek to Malahide alone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 144 ✭✭TagoMago

Heading to the gig later and looking forward to it but definitely now as much so as the 2018 gig… I'd imagine the same venue and (mostly) same set list probably won't be helping with ticket sales? They likely won't have garnered many new younger fans with the lack of new music in the interim either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 707 ✭✭✭ngunners

If it has sold poorly will they bump people up to gold circle?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 316 ✭✭Jambonjunior

Nah. I think gold circle is mostly sold out anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,651 ✭✭✭LowOdour

Seems busy around the place - but not been to a gig here before though so no point of reference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,996 ✭✭✭✭fits

    I can’t go - covid.
I have two gold circle tickets and a parking ticket if anyone wants them. Much discounted obviously

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 306 ✭✭T.V Eye

    Enjoyed that.

Idles are controlled chaos at this point. No one does palatable noise rock as well as them.

Danced like an idiot to LCD.

Sound was so bad for Young Farthers that I had stand at the back. Low end was like a swarm of bees.

Probably could have been a Trinity Gig really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 243 ✭✭Skidrow

Free flow for the gold circle,no wristband checks. Train and Luas home by 12:30 am to D12 not too bad.

LCD were good but not a patch on their Olympia gig a while back.

Sh!T Robot was good fun and also played through the intervals.

Young Fathers sounded great to me, would like to see them indoors.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 946 ✭✭✭The Phantom Jipper

Enjoyable night overall but IDLES were draining me by the end. They seem like they'd be insufferable to be around in real life, full time mad bastids.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,651 ✭✭✭LowOdour

Thought the gig was very enjoyable, LCD are a fantastic live act and Idles are good fun.

Thought the crowd was decent, everyone having a boogie at the back where we were standing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 707 ✭✭✭ngunners

Yeah, walked into Gold Circle no problem. Happy days. Band sounded great.

Shame about the truncated set - only 13 songs is a bit disappointing. Hate these stupid curfews. Would've loved Drunk Girls or Daft Punk instead of Yr City's a Sucker. And some more tunes off American Dream - Oh Baby would've been nice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 413 ✭✭Shank Williams

wasn’t at this gig but curfews really starting to piss me off - semi understandable at outdoor gigs (but really suck it up residents if it’s a handful of gigs a year) but when it happens at indoor gigs fk off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 174 ✭✭mactheknife19

For Malahide residents (as one myself) the gigs are not that disruptive from the time the gig starts to the time it clears out. I dropped a kid to a football match last night which needed me to drive around the outside of the castle grounds around 7pm and there was no traffic. The stage is well insulated from most estates in Malahide because of the woods so the sound is not to disruptive. I'm in an estate around 300m from the entrance gate at the village and its nothing more then a hum in the background. I think the curfew is more related to public transport and the pubs in the village wanting to get people in coming from the concerts so they want people back in the village for 11pm. I'm not really familiar with Marley or St Annes so maybe they are more disruptive for residents.
