Anyone willing to rent a Chronograph?

As the title suggests, would anyone be willing to lend a chronograph for a couple of days so I can get a handle on my muzzle velocity? Rifle is a .223 and I'd like to be able to stretch it further than 200 if needed. My scope has a built in ballistics calculator but that's useless without the right muzzle velocity. I can't justify paying €200+ on a single use item, but would be willing to pay €30-40 to rent one. Maybe gun clubs own these? I'm in the Galway area. Thanks.

One for sale in the for sale section for €65.

No connection to the seller btw, just for a little above your budget you can have your own.

Thanks for letting me know. I saw this too late but I appreciate that.

A lot of the apps will have a function, Strelok does anyway, where you input a drop say at 200 or 300 from a zero and it'll give you the velocity. But that's assuming the BC is correct. Plus all the other variables are trued. IMHO it'll slap a band-aid across all variables and give a velocity answer but having said that unless yer going out very far it should do the trick.

Thanks for the feedback Feisar. I used strelok but it isn't working great for me. For example, I'm zeroed in at 100 metres. When I shoot at 200 metres I get 7 cm of bullet drop. Strelok says my bullet velocity is 1040 m/s. Using that value, I tried my luck out to 300. I was shooting too high, like 7 cm too high.. that's why I would like to know the true velocity, although it is unlikely I'll be shooting at over 200 metres.

Can you not "backwards engineer" the velocity using your drops at the distances?

Start with 1040m/s (3,400-ish FPS) and keep tweaking the speed on the calculator until the drops it provides are as close a match to what you are getting in real life.

It won't be perfect because of the other variables as mentioned above but it'll be more accurate than you currently have.

Also some advice. I've used chronographsat known distances, known BC of the bullet, and all other variables to the smallest detail and the further out I go the less accurate the drops in the app (no one specific app, just BCs in general) were compared to real world results.

For example in one round (.308) it said I should have 28.25 moa of drop from 100 to 1,000 yards. It was actually 27.25. I was shooting through the chrono at the target so speeds were exact and instant (not average or mean).

It was at this point I realised the ballistic calculators are a useful tool to get you "on paper" but fine tuning is a real world skill. So I shot the distances, recorded my drops (at times ignoring wind so long as I stayed on target and my vertical stringing was within tolerances) and used them instead of relying on an app.

    Agree 100% !

The apps will not be 100% right every time.

You need to "true" strelok as far as possible minimum 300 should be 600 easiest way to do this is at a range with steels

I'm using a Tikk T3X lite in .223. My bullets are Fiocchi 55gr EPN rounds. I hunt foxes, so realistically I won't be shooting further than about 220 metres. I think the box speed is working ok for the ballistics calculator, I tested it further since the OP. My scope has a built in ballistics calculator so it accounts for bullet drop, its a pard ds35 night vision scope. I was surprised to see such a big discrepancy between the trued muzzle velocity for my 200 m test and 300 m test. I think I'll stick to the box speed for now, as I was actually close enough to the target this week when I used that speed.
