maybe if so there going to need to replace them this summer I hope

The NTA have advised that the 310 Limerick City Service is out for tender...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,282 ✭✭✭p_haugh

That lines up, they only gave it to Dublin Coach as a "temporary" 2 year tender back in 2022

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Jameslee23

I can’t find any pictures of depo anywhere much got taken down

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭AX612

Plus I doubt Dublin Coach will bother trying to improve the service or buy new buses for the service ect as they know they're going to loose it anyways

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,554 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Do Bus Eireann have an interest in applying for the tender of the 310 in Limerick or not?

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 11,692 Mod ✭✭✭✭devnull

I would suggest that they are in a very good position to do so, can't see there being a lot of bidders.

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Jameslee23

I really hope go ahead. He’s also going to start coming on the 726 route as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,771 ✭✭✭✭Jamie2k9

Is there evidence that 310 has operational issues with under DC in Limerick?

I can't see BE investing heaivily in such a route either if they win the tender.

    Story time for you all

So, I got the 20:30 726 from Portlaoise to Red Cow tonight - it was a brown Setra which had 2 + 1 seating, it was basically a tour spec. Anyways, overall this particular Setra was grand, driver was good and friendly and the bus itself didn't give much trouble - if only it was all like this!

Anyways, I got to Red Cow and there was another usual green Setra sitting there presumably on the 726 (08-KE reg). It started making this crackling sound shortly after I got off the other bus and it turned out to be the fan belt which had been torn to absolutely shreds and was practically useless! it also started leaking oil too. There was a few staff members around the interchange from Dublin Coach and one of them went down and opened the engine cover to revel the absolute state that this heap of junk is in!

I've traveled on this particular Setra before on the 726 and the gearbox is essentially finished in it - resulting in drivers having to shift the gears manually!

But yea - nothing new from Dublin Coach there 😅 the King Long also broke down earlier today surprise surprise 🙃

the 08 should’ve been taken off the road years ago i’m hoping it’s gonna be gone like what’s happened to the double-deckers

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 11,692 Mod ✭✭✭✭devnull

There's no reason a vehicle from 2008 still can't be on the road if it has had TLC.

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭AX612

Exactly. Sure Kearns have a 2001 coach still on the road in great condition and Collins Tours still have a 99 Vanhool still knocking about on service work too!

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Jameslee23

the road was closed tonight at Junction 14 due to head on collision and the bus had to go the back way into Monasterevin by the secondary school to get to the bus stop

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Jameslee23

I asked one of the drivers and ask what’s the story with the double-deckers as they haven’t been on the road in a few weeks and the response was they fucked and I was asking is there going to be any replacements and they said they’re just gonna keep using the coaches instead

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 11,692 Mod ✭✭✭✭devnull

Are we talking about the almost new Scania Ayat deckers or the older ones?

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Jameslee23

the older ones cause the 2022 ones are mostly for the 300 and 600

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭AX612

Yea I'd imagine he means the ex Stagecoach Vanhools. The remaining 4 are all sitting up around the depot with bits missing off them and what not. I've said this before but I think it's safe to say - they're finished using them now. They'll probably stick the Ayats on the 726 more and more at some stage knowing them 🤣

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭AX612

Got a 12-KE Setra on the 726 this afternoon. Interior was filthy and in very bad shape and the air conditioning was just non existent. It was very warm and stuffy with the smell of the toilet eventually adding to the heat 🤢

from next year the oldest buses they have is the 132 sprinter van

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Jameslee23

have they fixed the step yet on the king line

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,282 ✭✭✭p_haugh

Well it didn't take long, but I think one of the Citaros broke down on the 750 this evening!

Passed one pulling in on the side of the M50 and it didn't look very healthy 😬

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭AX612

One of the Tourismo's broke down last night, rear covered in oil and two mechanics behind it…

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Jameslee23

I was shocked seeing the 08 after going back on the road after I haven’t seen them for a few weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 835 ✭✭✭LiamaDelta

Is that the one that was on the side of the N7 around Rathcoole, two mechanics and about 4 x 5-gallon drums at the back? How they are still in business is beyond me (aside from not being put off the road by the NTA)

Not sure as I was only informed but very well could've been the same one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,342 ✭✭✭Tow

They are using the yellow 161 Sprinter on the Dundrum to Airport now. It has an issue shifting out of first gear, required the engine to be shutoff to reset the system.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,996 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

This thread should just be called the "Dubin Coach Breakdown Thread" at this stage or maybe "DC breakdown of the day!"

Seriously though, the fact that this lot are still allowed to operate with vehicles and practises that are far below what anyone should reasonably expect says more about the NTA than anything really.

Another noisy Government quango that in reality fails miserably at even the most basic tenents of its remit - much like the RSA in that regard whose only "strategy" seems to be to be slapping lower limits and cameras everywhere rather than tacking the real issue - enforcement and education.

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Jameslee23

after getting the last 12 double-decker today

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭AX612

    They've brought a Vanhool back.. brave! 😂

they definitely gonna have to consider purchasing some secondhand double-deckers as they’re now running short on coaches

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭AX612

I was on the 12-KE decker today, first time I've seen it in ages. Got it to Red Cow from Portlaoise (my usual commute) and it was clear this had gearbox issues. Gears were struggling and refusing to change and it just revved like mad until the gears eventually changed, almost like red lining!

Bad bad coach, shouldn't be on the road!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,352 ✭✭✭thebourke

Is anybody finding the dublin coach service time keeping seems to be getting worse from dublin aiport?

i arrived back into dublin for 6pm bus service to red cow roundabout.

I had to wait an hour and a half before dublin coach showed up.

There should have been 3 buses scheduled in that timeframe according to that website.

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Jameslee23

got the 08KE home now when I was getting off the bus, the door was closing in my face and the driver had to hold the door open and I was saying this bus is battered and he was like the window wipers. Don’t even work on it or anything and I was like hopefully there be new double-deckers this summer, and he said doubt it

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭AX612

Theres a Tourismo on the 600 this morning and the King Long is on the 750 Dundrum route..

If you think about it they've not bought anything since 2019, and before you say about the Scania's being a 221 reg they're were purchased before covid happened and were delayed because of covid. The only bus they've really bought in the last 5 years is that 2006 Citaro and apparently that was on the verge of going for scrap too!

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Jameslee23

u also forgotten in 2019 they got the 161 sprinter and the 162 Volvo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,771 ✭✭✭✭Jamie2k9

There was 2 of the old buses on the 600 today. One was carrying advertisng for M1 service.

I hope its temporary possibly T Swift demand is higher on 300.

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭AX612

Yea some older single decker coaches are on the 600 recently.. Scania deckers giving trouble I'd say

personally I think at this point that they need to put JJ kavanagh on the 726 route as it’s getting really bad now

the green bus would not get that 🤣

On the KK to Cork bus now. The smell from the waste tank on the bus is overwhelming, making me feel a bit sick.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28 Declan1965

Used to get the kildare to the airport for work on a regular basis, used to be roasting during summer on the upper deck and freezing in winter.

Smell of diesel fumes were overhealming. Most were the 09 KE and not the most reliable.

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Jameslee23

I tried to close one of the curtains on one of their newer ones the other day and it spelt like piss

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,554 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

That is beyond disgusting. I wouldn't like to feel someone else's toilet business after we had gone through Covid.

What reg was on the coach?

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Jameslee23

    the 08 Browne coach

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭AX612

Did you ever make it to work on time? 🙃

Yea air conditioning doesn't seem to be a thing on most of the fleet. All of the 09-KE deckers are gone now thankfully, the state of them. They've got two 12-KE ones still but they're barely using them too, they're just as bad!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,771 ✭✭✭✭Jamie2k9

Most Scania on 600 from what I can tell. I agree some could do with a deep clean.

Bus broken down on N7 and there was another in a lay by on M9. Low loader there but not sure if that was to take it.

I passed a sorry looking Tourismo today, and it sounded like a wheel was loose on it

Saw one of their Mercedes coaches on the back of a truck on the M50 a short while ago.
