Like for Like substitution?

I have traded my air rifle for another, same caliber, same spec etc. I understand I must fill out the substitution section of the FCA1 form. That's fine, but do I need to fill in any other sections/sub sections etc, for instance —- personal details, signature on 'Declaration' page,? In the substitution section where it says 'Max Ammunition Capacity', does that refer to magazine capacity or amount of rounds allowed on licence?

It refers to the mag capacity. Whatever you put will be all you can load into the mag at any given time.

Your ammunition allowance is different and refers to the amount of ammunition you seek to be licensed to be in possession of.

Is there a max magazine capacity for a air rifle as a lot of air rifles come with 14 to 18 shot magazines

That I'm not 100% sure of.

Section 4 of SI21/2008 deals with restricted and unrestricted firearms. Paragraph (2)c, part (ii) deals with mag capacity for rimfires and it states a maximum of 10 rounds.

However Part (iii) of the same section says:

(iii) air-operated rifled or smoothbore firearms

That's it. It makes no mention of mag capacity, or that the limit on rimfires applies to air rifles too.

SI337/2009 does not amend section 4 of the 2008 SI with regard to mag limits on rifles, only dealing with short firearms.

I'd have a chat with a few of the bigger airgun retailers, to see what the norm is, regarding capacity. If it's not clearly defined in law, and there's no clear precedent established, then I'd be going with max potential capacity, with a good reason in mind, in case you are ever asked about it.

While you'll need to sign the form, and fill in the basics, I'd be going with the "as before" response, wherever possible, given its only a sub. This is a like for like substitution within the current 3 year license term, so you don't want to encourage anyone to try and treat it like a new licence application (regardless of the technicalities)

For a substitution put down what the present amount is on the licence, or put in an increase.

Hi Garret, Thanks for the info/help. I did more or less what you suggested and wrote "LIKE FOR LIKE" on the top of the FCA1 and also on the letter from the Dealer. Hopefully there will be no hiccups.
