Lexi Thompson blowing this big time. Looked set to cruise home around the turn, no surprise if she fails to win it now.

Bogey bogey finish for her and she misses the playoff by one.

Playoff between Saso and Hataoka gone to sudden death.

I love when they have proper coverage of the LPGA events, they're great

That was enjoyable alright. Saso double bogeyed 2 & 3 so to be able to come back from that and win it at just 19 shows some potential. Lexi just suffered a total mental collapse, not for first time it has to be said. Gonna leave a long deep scar, this one.

Ya I assumed she was done after the two doubles tbh. She looks fairly nerveless on the greens, holed a few great 4-6 footers. Amazing how Asia keep pumping out so much talent in the women's game.

Lexi bottled it completely, I suppose she's only 26 so at least she has time on her side. But as you say she's got previous.

I wouldn't be Lexi's biggest fan but you could see she was in turmoil during that back nine and I did not enjoy seeing that, at all. As a poster said above, this will scar.

Lexis putt on 18 to force a playoff, so bad. Mind fried by that stage no doubt. Great though to see Philippines have a major champion.

I'd say the pressure on lexi is immense, so few Americans competing at the very top and she was like the anointed one when she made her breakthrough as a teenager. Can't be easy trying to live up to that billing. Especially when your short game is a bit fragile to begin with!

I see Rose Zhang turned pro last week and has a 2 stroke lead heading in to the final day of her first event.

Impressive start, could be a major force for years to come

She looks the real deal alright

Making hard word of it right now. That birdie putt on 16 was a nervy one. tough 2-putt coming up on 17

    Clutch 2nd putt on 17

On to 2nd tie hole v Kupcho. Zhang still doesn't look fazed.

    What a shot by Zhang

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 662 ✭✭✭mjsc1970

    Wow. Zhang. The real deal.

Great stuff, would've been a massive anticlimax had Kupcho won that

Can't be something that's happened too often, in any tour, turn pro and win your first event?

Last time it happened on the LPGA tour was 1951.

Lexi Thompson has announced that she will retire at the end of the season. Only 29 years old.

Playing in her 18th consecutive US Open this week, so maybe a case of burnout having spent so many of her teen years at the elite level?

Edit: It seems that it may not be a full retirement and Lexi might still play a handful of events each year.

There had been strong rumours last year of her calling it a day. In the public eye for so long - qualified for US Open at the age of 12!!! Turned Pro at 15… 19 top 10's in majors (1 win).

Nelly Korda is +10 through 8 holes at the US Open and in last place.

Took a 10 on a par 3 with 4 balls into the water at the front of the green. 1 was from the back bunker and then 3 more when playing back over the water from short of the green.

Edit: It was 3 balls into the water, not 4.

Wow what a way for an all time run to come to an end

Korda shoots 81 in the second round of the PGA having been in second place after round 1. Looked unbeatable a few weeks ago, mad sport

  • Castlewarden’s Lauren Walsh leads the Swiss Ladies Open on the ladies European tour, as she heads for the 18th. Walsh is 1 shot ahead of the chasing pack on 9 under. The final round is today.

  • now two in front after a birdie-birdie-birdie-birdie finish. She will have an anxious wait to see if she can become a ladies European tour title winner for the first time.

Has been caught by A.Hewson who slam dunked her 3rd on par 5 17th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,080 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

    A.Hewson birdies 18th to get to -11.

Good result for Lauren all the same.

  • after her brilliant final round in the Aramco series London event, Lauren Walsh now up to 12th in the ladies European tour rankings and 3rd in the rookie of the year ranking. A great day for Irish golf!

Is there any early coverage of the Irish open on anywhere?

Was looking at it last night and there was virtually no spectators there (not on 16-18th holes) Bit disappointing when the weather was good.

Heard a Leona interview this morning and she was actually happy with the Thursday crowds saying even on LPGA events they rarely have a crowd on a Thursday and crowd was good yesterday.
