Yeah but I'd have to explain it in French then 😉

It cost more than I'd hoped but the guys were very good to be fair

Hi all, I’ve been on the hunt for a 242 Kodiaq PHEV or a 241 Skoda Enyaq Sportline for a while to replace a Tucson but I’m having no luck. My next choice would be the 77kwh ID4. Just wondering bit about the basics. Is it worth going back a year to get a Pro Plus over a Pro?

It’s going to take 5 people regularly and will do local journeys (5-20km) for 95% of the time. We go camping a few times a year and the Tucson boot with a roof box is ideal size wise. The ID4 has a smaller boot but I’ve priced a tow bar for a storage box or trailer and was quoted €2300+ 🤪

We already have a small EV at home with a charger so we’re set from that point of view.

My basic question is do you think the ID4 is a good fit?

I'd definitely go for the 2024 one, the software is a vast improvement over previous years

It's a 5 seater but doesn't have isofix in the middle seat some a car seat will need to be belted in

I probably wouldn't put 3 adults or teens across the back seats, but there's not many cars that size which are comfortable 5 seaters

In terms of camping gear, we've managed to fit a 5 person tent, sleeping bags, a fridge freezer and various other junk in without the roofbox

However we recently upgraded to a Vango Joro 6 person tent which is a good bit bigger when packed. So I finally gave in and got a roofbox. With the roofbox holding the sleeping bags and clothes, the tent, fridge and cooking stuff should fit the boot easily enough

We're going camping in a few weeks so I'll try to snap some pics to give you an idea

Can confirm the Halfords bars and box fit. Can also confirm they're pretty noisy over 70km/h

Doesn't bother me too much, but I think I'll stay around 100km/h to be safe

It also comes with stickers to block up the unused holes, I'll put them on when I'm putting the box back on

I can definitely see where the extra money goes on Thule, but I just couldn't justify the price for the amount I'll be using it.

Maybe I'll start saving for an upgrade in a year or two, that'll probably be around when the budget box self destructs

Or I'll just follow my dream of getting an ID.Buzz 😁

3 adults can sit comfortably in the back. Why wouldn't you carry them?

I was that not just regassing , didn’t Raiisn get the system troubleshooted aswell?

I got the car booked in with VW Wicklow on the 11th. So only 2 week Away.

    It’ll be done under warranty

This might be a silly question but how do I know a 24 one that wasn’t a pre reg from the one with the improved software? Do you mean buying new?

The gear shift is on a stick by the steering wheel on the new one. It's attached to the speedometer on the old ones.

No, included removal of old gas, injection of a dye with new gas to assist leak detection, pressure test and fill of the required weight of new gas. It was done in place called NordAuto which are a chain located in larger towns. A bit like Bestdrive/Advance Pitstop in terms of setup. As i said, we’re getting fleeced here for air con work.

There's also a newer and larger screen, looks like below

Well anyone I've ever put in the middle seat complained they've no room.

They were sandwiched between two child seats though, adults might be a bit more negotiable

To be fair I’m sure there’s a lot more competition and plenty of work for air con specialists on the continent where it’s a necessity.

    Hi

Is there a manual release for the charge port door? I know there is one for the cable but my door is stuck and wont open

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,715 ✭✭✭micks_address

Should be inside the boot.. wire pull under the right side covering

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,067 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

The latch is probably jammed on it and you'll need to force it open.

Common fault on the ID and ice VWs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,356 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

As others said the locking mechanism is probably failing, mine alternated between not closing and not opening. Garage should be able to fix it under warranty

So am I correct in saying there is no manual way to open it from the boot?

correct, no manual release for the door itself… only the cable.

Best you can do is try lock/doube-unlock a few times and you might get lucky. If it opens keep it open.

It will need replacing. As said, common fault.

If it won’t open and you’re stuck to charge you can force it open. Work a string/lace inside the door (from top to bottom) and then pull evenly on each end and it will pop open

It might break the door but if needs must.

Today the screens in mine decided to **** the bed. Started to be car and no speedometer or infotainment, nothing

Couldn't even get the camera view up

Holding the power button on the screen did nothing. Tried turning the car off and on a few times, no joy

Car still drove, but no indicator noise meaning I had to double check at junctions

Luckily I was only 5 mins from home so made it without issues

Very frustrating, this happened once before and the only fix was to just leave the car for a while to fully shut down and then try again

This hasn't happened since updating to software 3.2, I was hoping it was gone for good

I spotted there's a recall in the US for a similar issue, might contact the garage to see if there's a similar issue with the European made cars

They'll probably give me the usual BS of having it checked and then they'll mysteriously find no problems 🙄

happened me a few weeks ago. Held power button for over thirty seconds while car was on and it reset. It isn’t nice. Was a once off here.

I bought some off micksgarage, and i'm renting (no idea what brand) a roof box for our trip to France next month. Similar to yourself, I can't justify the cost of a roof box (nor store it) for the limited use i'll give it. Not a long drive in France, just ~200km each way.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,356 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Your not going to Domaine Des Ormes are you? 😉

I think the whole EV forum has gone there by now 😂

How much was the rental? I need the box about 5 times this year and possibly next year too, so it possibly made sense to buy it (you might be sensing some desperation on my part)

Obviously I'd like to get a nice aerodynamic Thule with double sided openings, but I just can't justify the cost to myself

The corpse box does also take up an obnoxious amount of space in the shed, between it and the ebike there's basically no room left 🫣

My pro plus is in the dealers so all going well will collect Saturday

  • Registered Users Posts: 552 ✭✭✭space2ground1

I’m 80% of the way there on a 242 pro plus. I’ll have to meet the sales guy in the middle if it’s to work out but he seems like a reasonable fella. VW’s new discount / PCP rates are due out today so hopefully that might help grease the wheel and get the deal over the line.

Can anyone tell me what VW charged them for the tow hitch that was done in the dealership and not in the factory? I’ll need to add one fairly soon after buying the car.
