End of the month, so I presume all those colourful flags will be taken down, folded up and put away until next June.

I had a double take at the first pic, I thought it was a photo of an anti-protest!

Nothing like a Pride thread to show why we need Pride in 2024.

Happy Pride to the LGBT+ Boardsies!

    Toronto Pride Parade

The LGBTQ movement really don't help themselves when they claim these events are kid friendly and then allow weirdos to jump around naked in the middle of them.Gives credence to people who criticise them who the LGBTQ movement claim are lying. Probably should just stop pretending the whole thing is family friendly and accept its for adults and leave it at that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,645 ✭✭✭victor8600

Wow, you really had to scour the depth of the cesspit we call internet to find one weirdo somewhere half the world away. And you felt it important to share the video during the morning time, when any kid can see it just by browsing this forum. How did you find this video? Just out of curiosity, did you type "pride parade penis outrage" in Google or does the Bing AI automatically suggest such things to you?

I didn't see any children in that video. We've only that tweet to go on and it reeks of homophobia. The same people who'll pretend that this is true and a legitimate stick to use for their anti-LGBT+ agenda will wail if you use the same logic for the right in general by citing Tommy Robinson.

Another video of the same event.

    https://x.com/Partisangirl/status/1807231463223648613

Popped up on twitter for me last week, didn't actually go searching for it at all .

You're the problem , it doesn't matter what sort of weirdos they are if they claim they are part of the LGBTQ movement their degeneracy is acceptable and that's what prancing about bollock naked at a supposed family friendly event (Prides marches are advertised as family friendly events these days) is whether you want to accept it or not, people like you do more harm to the LGBTQ movement because you accept weirdos as long as they claim to be LGBTQ , if that was a St Patricks day parade everyone would say those guys are weirdo's so why is it not ok to do the same in this instance. The gay rights movement over the years fought hard to disassociate itself from weirdos like this.

Yeah that's pretty tame. There's one going round this moring from San Francisco when someone is taking a leak on an ugly old man on the street. I won't post it it's gross lol

A lot of Pride stuff has been taken over by fetishists and exhibitionists.

I want a Straight Pride march myself 😉 Where is it?

There is this thing as an internet bubble. If you consume this type of content, you will get more and more of it, until all you see are very specific, pointed things, aimed and primed just for you. And soon, in another year or so, half or more of your content will be automatically generated by AI content generators, which will tailor the contents of what is being fed into your stream exclusively for you.

There is a cure for that. It is called reality. You can come to a pride parade yourself, get soaked and participate, just like I did :) You can sign up to be a modesty marshal, it is such an omission that this has been overlooked so far. I am sure you can go out there to the Dublin Pride organizing committee and convince them that you are the person who can make the Parade truly child friendly. If that is what you care about, and not just posting crap on the web.

The very idea of taking kids to a pride event is just off the wall to me

I'm strongly against politicising a kids upbringing

By this logic, they shouldn't be taken to mass or church. I'm guessing that that's fine though.

The month is definently being used as a disguise for perves and paedos. Thinking they are protected under the umbrella of LGBTQ etc etc.

There was a video of some auld fella in a wig flashing his mob during the parade. If that is something you are happy to have your child exposed to then you are part of the problem. If my child had seen that, Id have choked the fella with his own wig.

Seriously deranged and dangerous people out there.

Gay pride was fine until they added every other letter of the alphabet so the mentally deranged could get involved. One of my very close friends is gay, he cannot stand the movement, the last 2-3 years I can see why.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭gym_imposter

Where's the politics in going to church?

    We don't take ours BTW

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭gym_imposter

Of course he can't, most gay people are ordinary folks ,not extreme exhibitionists

Religion is inherently conservative. Here in the UK, the head of state is also the head of the state church. Same church has members of the upper chamber of Parliament.

You're either against politicising kids or you're not.

There's nothing political about Pride. It's about people wanting to be free to be themselves.

Pride has become inherently political over the past decade.Every political leader is obliged to come out and praise it for fear they'll be labelled a homophobe every company has to do likewise.

If people want to bring their kids to pride events best of luck to them it's their kids however they shouldn't be advertising them as family friendly (and they movement has been) if there are weirdos prancing about with nothing on them at the pride marches.

It is, as I outlined above.

Pride is not remotely political. As I expected, you're pushing a double standard.

Pride month is too short...it should be Pride year....

365 days of rainbow flags and lads jumping around in mankinis....

    Year in…year out...

    Forever...

I also think there should be a Shame month...for white middle aged straight men only...just to remind us of how terrible we are....

In what way can they not "be themselves" now? Genuinely curious. I get the celebration of all that has been achieved via Pride events BTW.

There's still rampant homophobia in Ireland and most countries. There's people in this thread likening homoseuxality to paedophilia for just one example. Then there's the murder of the two gay men in Sligo last year.

The gay guys murdered in Sligo are hardly an issue someone on the progressive left wants to raise

There is SOME homophobia, agreed, but I don't believe it is rampant myself.

However, I am still wondering why a Pride week/month is necessary that much now. You may not like this, but the parades appear to be platforms for fetish, furries, and all sorts of weird and wonderful things. TBH many "straight" people like myself find the exhibitionism and risque stuff a bit off putting TBH. I don't think there is any need for it.

But as a person with several gay friends and family members also, (none of whom take part in Pride events), I don't consider myself to be homophobic by saying the above. I think it marginalises the more exuberantly exhibitionist amongst them and that can colour the impression of everyone who sees it. I don't think that would be an unusual response.

Some of them are "othering" themselves with their colourful behaviour at Pride events. Why is it needed?

Nah, it's a double standard. I expected as much and you've proved it for me.

So it wasn't a "genuine question" then. Thanks for confirming. We're done here.

Or the assault by the soldier who was shouting homophobic abuse at someone. But that's just words so less bad in certain posters eyes.

I've been to a few Prides and seen nothing like that. Reads like a snide accusation, to be honest.

I'm going to leave it there.

Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't go on. I don't hear any homophobia so I guess your comment on that was a snide accusation. The minority always cry the loudest, the country as a whole is very accomodating to the gay community, only 15-20 years ago they wouldn't be able to have a parade etc.

I'm going to leave it there.

To say homophobia in ireland is rampant is a load of nonsense.

We have had a gay Taoiseach and voted in same sex marriage in the past few years.

I know people who were married with kids and didn't come out until the last 10 or so years because of how bad things were.

Their will always be a minority of idiots, but to say it is rampant is ireland is a lie.

If you have links to back up your claim that it is out of control here then I would love to see them.

Tbf the assault on the woman had nothing to do with homophobia. Can't for the life of me understand why a young girl would confront a group of men who are clearly off their heads on drink and drugs asking them to stop insulting someone. Story for another thread I suppose

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,556 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

Eh it did, since he was engaging in homophobic abuse of a person at the time and that's why she called him out. The homophobia is very much so relevant.

What human rights are denied to LGBTQI+ people in the Ireland of 2024 ?

What law prevents LGBTQI+ from doing things that straight people are allowed to do ?

She got a beat down because she spoke up to them, literally had nothing to do with the context of what the scumbag was saying. A certain group of the population will cling to the fact the word fagot was used though, anything to paint the country in the bleakest of lights.

Laughable commentary here about Pride not being political...it's like a wolf dressed in lambs clothing. The feel good addicts in government have taken it in to the point that it's now becoming insufferable. You could compare the abundance of rainbow flags around the city and in our lives to what we see in old film footage of another well known political movement in Europe a lifetime ago. People are free to do what they like and with whom, but the pride nonsense every June is becoming intolerable for the average citizen I imagine....and and most importantly leave the kids alone!

I posted earlier in this thead about how I felt being confronted by gay man-crotches while reading about the parade. I get that not liking penis does not equal lesbian (if your a woman anyway) but I've received a lot of homophobic abuse, to the point of attempting suicide. (I failed but I left with a nice brain injury)

It wasn't just randomers either but most of it as a direct result of the inflammed right wing, mostly christian driven ideaology that gay equals pedophelia and when I see that stuff I can hardly blame them for thinking it. Gay pride isn't about being free to walk around with your genitals on display, it was a protest against hatred and the same kind of homophobia which led to the deaths and murder of people for being gay. I don't want to see anyones dick, let alone want to be represented by it.

Yes if only he’d been exposed to more pride events he would have seen the error of his ways and that assault would never have occurred.

A poster had previously asked in what way can LGBT people not "be themselves". I would say threats of harassment and violence are a pretty good example of **** that LGBT people in Ireland still face unfortunately. So that was what it was in response to.
