    An Rí Rua,

Please be aware that it's a requirement of this forum that posters are respectful towards one another. If you're disagreeing with others, please do so respectfully.

Use of expressions like "hunter freaks" is not on, given that you know you're addressing people who hunt, legally.

Do not reply to this post on thread.

    Thanks,

    DBB

So rather than justify your prejudices and preconceptions or counter my points with reasoned arguments you’re resorting to silly faces now that you can no longer insult me.
That tells me all I need to know.

The Joule is a unit of measurement of energy, not velocity.

Velocity is a rate of change of position, so it'll always be expressed in terms of distance per unit time e.g. metres per second, miles per hour etc.

ThThiS came up previouslyhere I had a cat defecating in my back garden and we had a small toddler at the time. Look up what cat poo can do to kids. A cats right to roam didn't trump my kids safety. Not nice but that's life.

I'm sure it also came up about all the other wildlife that defecates in your back garden too.

Plenty of feral cats about too, estimated to be around 200k in Ireland.

I am not defending the shooting of your cats in any way shape or form but the thing about it is people get cats and expect them to be everyone elses darling. If i choose to be pet free and play in the garden with my child, there ia no reason that someone elses owned animal should poo on my lawn

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,344 ✭✭✭con747

No offence but what do you think birds do and any other wild animal that is able to get into your garden do, I know some people want a perfect world but it is not there.

Not all poop is created equal

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭laoismanj

Wild birds belong there. Peoples pets dont. Thats the issue.

Yasus big difference between bird poo and some of the disgusting cat diarrhoea I was cleaning up

Maybe we should all agree to disagree about the defecation of animals in gardens considering the thread is about someone shooting a cat and not derail the thread.

I find your replies on this thread surprising. Because wild animals do it, doesn’t exempt you from your cat’s nuisance.

I condemn what the neighbour does to the cats but if your cat impacts other people, don’t be surprised some of them are ready to take further actions.

Why should I pay the price for a decision you took?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,344 ✭✭✭con747

It seems a fair few people here have no issues " to take further actions" on animals which isn't a surprise really.

It isn’t surprising but you also have some people that don’t see an issue with their cats going around hunting and digging to leave small “gifts” in other people’s garden.

Tell me, can you distinguish a feral cat's poop from a poop done by someone's pet?

You're making some pretty big assumptions here about my cat being a "nuisance" so I'll share this much. My cats (2) have a large litter box in the house which they both use daily and they are kept indoors at night. They don't spend a lot of time outdoors but they are allowed outside. Both wear brightly coloured collars with identity tags and loud bells and are microchipped to me as the registered owner. All my neighbours know them and know they belong to me, and I haven't had a single complaint about them pooping on anyone's lawn, so make of that what you will.

But also know that I won't keep them confined against their nature to suit any neighbour who is simply paranoid about cats.

So I'll leave it at that.

    You say:

Tell me, can you distinguish a feral cat's poop from a poop done by someone's pet?

    Then you say:

All my neighbours know them and know they belong to me,

It is not with the poop you identify the cat. It is when you see it doing it.

I haven't had a single complaint about them pooping on anyone's lawn, so make of that what you will.

    Simple answer:

    • Your cat doesn’t do it (possible but unlikely)
    • Some neigbours don’t see it or don’t mind it
    • Some neighbours are not happy with it but prefer to keep the peace and good relationship with the neighbours.

But also know that I won't keep them confined against their nature to suit any neighbour who is simply paranoid about cats.

Your neighbours may not approach you about it because they know that would be your reaction. Your post feels like: I want a cat and let them do what they want so tough luck for the neighbours if the cat inconveniences them.

How can he be sure he is addressing ppl who all hunt 'legally', their could be some ppl that dont hunt 'legally'?

And is hunting / hurting cats legal, which is what the thread is about?

And if these 'legal' hunters support hunting / hurting cats then they are indeed hunter freaks?

  • Registered Users Posts: 419 ✭✭well24

    What would those differences be?

Few cats around my estate, tbh never noticed any poo, now bird poo is another matter - everywhere!

Who do I blame that on?

That's a bit unfair, they won't be kept in against their nature so tough titty to your neighbours. And if I had an issue with a cat **** in my garden the last thing I'm going to do is contact the neighbour because when the cat disappears guess who suspect nr. one is going to be?

I had an issue in my last house with cats pooping in flower beds/pots etc.

I didn't mind the cats, neighbour had about 6! But didn't appreciate the poop. I spread this green jelly stuff I got in the hardware shop 'stay off' or something like that. Threw it around the flowers, problem solved.

Never saw a mouse or rat in all my time there either🙂

You've a cat pooping in your garden, but you are not prepared to complain to the owners? Honestly, that sounds like a you problem.

As I said, I've had no complaints, so will continue on the basis that my pets are not causing my neighbours a problem.

The thing that annoys me is people like you will complain on a message board (but, it seems, not to the owner), labelling "all" cats as a nuisance, even when it's as likely it's a feral cat pooping in your garden.

Which is also unfair. But as you said yourself, that's life.

Have a neighbour who's house is built on an embankment so overlooks my garden by about 5 meters. I used have a small dog, confined obviously to her own garden but there are lots of feral cats in the area which apparently were using neighbours garden as a toilet.

For some reason neighbour decided it was my tiny dog (chihuahua) which was climbing a five meter wall to take a dump in her veg patch and decided to confront me about my dog's crap in her garden. I did my best to explain that it didn't belong to my dog but then I started receiving frozen parcels of feces being hurled at my roof. It gives me some small pleasure to think that someone bagged up feral cat poo and placed it in their freezer so they could drop a sh?t bomb on someones house.

As an aside, I rescued a cat or two in my time and there have always been cats in the area, there was a family living in my shed when I moved in here. They keep the rodent population under control and are generally appreciated as resident in the area.

My own cat is tagged and collared so as not to be a nuisance to wildlife. She does take mice and a the odd rat every now and then but we live on the edge of a large campus so her hunting grounds contain the likes of grey squirrels, which are considered a biological hazard which cause 'significant damage to certain species of tree and pose a serious challenge to the continued existence of the native red squirrel.' (I actually love to see grey squirrels even though they are considered vermin too)

The campus itself has resident pet cats, they are tagged and collared too. They belong to the students of the school (borders) and roam freely on the estate. It's not an issue for the majority of people who live here.
