Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Gerry Murphy on the weather tonight "we can expect rain rain and rain" and then he smiled. He enjoys the misery.

    Lovely cloud formations today.

Lovely blue skies in Dublin this morning...if only that wind would ease it would be a stunner of a morning

The wind has died down a fair bit today compared to yesterday and warmer too. Currently 17C in south Dublin with fair conditions.

    Lovely morning in Galway.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Quite a nice morning and not too cold.

I seen the most amazing double rainbow last night in between the showers and got a lovely phot of it.
I’ll post it if anyone can explain to me how I post photos on boards!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,192 ✭✭✭pauldry

Could be at the weekend as temperature only 5c at night but I doubt it.

Of course the 3rd week of July is the forecast warmest as it was in 2011 since this is the copycat. Could be mid twenties in parts that week a couple of days. And hot drizzle in the NW also as it was in 2011.

Big difference in weather forecast between the UK Met office who are giving heavy rain all along the east of Ireland next Tuesday whereas met eireann giving light showers. Monday the 8th is a big day for me, Gerry give Monday wet with a smile at 6.55pm forecast and then whispered disappointingly that Monday could remain dry on the 9.30pm forecast. It just shows how unsettled things are.

This summer still has some ways to go to be as bad as last summer. Summer 2020 was also a stinker.

Agreed, and if it's not too wet, I personally am happy enough. But we we were coming off the back of a nicer Spring in both those cases, so we were still living off the vibes of decent longish good spells. We've had no longer than a nice weekend this spring.

A much better day today here in Maynooth. No blue skies, but dry, and without the horrible wind. Unfortunately it looks like a wet week to come from this evening.

Apologies mykrodot! I identify as board games myself 🙂

Well done on the open water swimming. Not easy. Watch out for those great whites who are now calling Ireland home 😉

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

started as a lovely mild morning here in West Clare but has got noticeably cooler and has now started pouring down rain.

You can all expect it inland in the next while 😔

I’m seeing a lot of clickbait crap about the medium term outlook looking really good. I’m assuming that is all nonsense?

Lovely morning in Cork City but the heavy rain has just arrived.

Lovely morning in North City Dublin , a lot less windy so feeling warmer in the sun .

Clouding over now and looks like rain unfortunately.

A good deal of rain to come over the next 5 days, could turn out to be the wettest period since April. From Wednesday onwards we gradually begin to lose the cool weather and replace it with something a bit warmer, but it remains to be seen if we'll get any sort of settled weather for more than a day.

  • Registered Users Posts: 506 ✭✭✭Rugbyf565

Grim, fly me away now. On the bright side, I see some sunshine starting from next Wednesday on the long term Apple Weather forecast. Temperatures from from 17- 22 degrees. Apple weather isn’t the most reliable though..

I have tried to look in to the source of their forecasting models for Ireland, Europe. For the US, they use the Weather Company (IBM Model i think)

I really cannot find what data source they use. So i can only assume it also comes from same data source as US based forecasts.

FWIW, I find it to be relatively accurate in real time both home and abroad

Guaranteed it won't be that bad and we won't get that amount of rainfall at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,484 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

Was watching the UK Met office web forecast for tonight and the weekend and they seem to think tonights rain is mostly a southern affair with not a whole lot over Dublin yet we are under a yellow warning here since yesterday. Have to say on the the satellite and radar it doesn't look like much more than bog standard frontal rain.

Just had a torrential downpour here just outside Castlebar. Surprised there wasnt lightning. If you get caught in one of these as they move East you will certainly know about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,215 ✭✭✭✭Oscar Bravo

    Loud thunder over Castlebar now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,186 ✭✭✭Elmer Blooker

doesn’t look like much or even anything for Dublin, it’s well to the south and looking like it will only get as far north as Wicklow, it should be clouding over in Dublin now but it’s the opposite, it’s now becoming clear and sunny, pic taken looking SW.

I hope it does lash tonight as i don’t think I’ve ever seen the soil so dry through lack of rainfall and constant very dry wind from between N and NW for weeks now.

Yep, my website webcam looks NE so it doesn't get blown out by the sun, looking SW is similar here.

I didnt water the pots out the back of the house this evening - really hoping for some rain, my garden grass was last cut two weeks ago which is really rare for this time of year and its mostly daisies poking their heads up rather than the grass, the ground must be dry as a bone.

Looking at the radar and it looks like the worst of the rain is going to the north and south of the three counties that got the warning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,882 ✭✭✭pureza

Theres a few drops here near Arklow, this is looking south at my weather station tower towards Tara hill(in the distance to the right of the tower) and Gorey (looks wet down there about 10kms away)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,086 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

13 degrees and raining. Not much else to say really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,882 ✭✭✭pureza

    Looking north towards wicklow mtns

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,677 ✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Yep soil is dry. May and June were well below average rainfall. Many stations got approx 50% of average rainy for both months. Water levels are way down and drains around here are completely dry.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

This evenings Stansted- Knock flight was in the hold for a while due to bad weather with heavy rain and poor visibility. They reported just seeing the runway lights at minimums to which the tower replied its deteriorated quite quickly. Nasty showers about

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,186 ✭✭✭Elmer Blooker

showers now developing in the Dublin area, I think we’ll get our rain after all this evening, Met E might have called this correctly?
O ye of little faith ….

Exceptionally dry outlook from the latest gfs, particularly in western areas, hardly a drop of rain from this monday untill the end of the run, soil here is rock hard, very dry and dusty, just crumbles in your hand. Hopefully this will help temperatures rise quickly if we ever do get a warm spell.

MONTHLY FORECAST, ISSUED FRIDAY 05 JULY 2024

Week 1 (Monday 08 July to Sunday 14 July)

Current indications suggest low pressure will move in from the southwest at times bringing rain or shows at times. Temperatures are signalled to be close to average in many areas but slightly below average in parts of the east and south. Rainfall totals are predicted to be above average for much of Leinster and parts of the south, but with below average rainfall totals expected for much of the north, west and southwest, with close to normal amounts in some midland areas.

Week 2 (Monday 15 July to Sunday 21 July)

Week 2 has a signal for high pressure to influence or weather. As a result, lower than average precipitation is indicated countrywide. Temperatures are signalled to be around average for the time of year.

Week 3 (Monday 22 July to Sunday 28 July)

As we head into week 3 confidence in the forecast reduces, however the current signal is for high pressure to remain in charge of our weather. As a result temperatures are signalled to be above average for the time of year in conjunction  with lower than average rainfall across the country.

Week 4 (Monday 29 July to Sunday 04 August)

Confidence in the forecast as we head into week 4 is low. However, there is a signal for high pressure to be positioned to the northwest. Temperatures are signalled to be around average or slightly above. Rainfall totals are signalled to continue below average for the time of year.

I have to say todays GFS 12z is very promising if your looking for a serious improvement in temperatures and much more in the way of sunshine but I would need to see a couple more runs like this over the weekend for confidence to increase.

Out in Greystones now, lovely evening somehow despite dark grey clouds all around us. No wind, sun coming out and I don’t have a jacket on. Apparently rain is due but Greystones has a very micro climate and rarely gets rain in my experience.

Was meant to be wet In the north today, with "showers pushing in from the west early in afternoon".

There was 1 very light one which lasted about 2min, but since about 3pm it's been a lovely summers day and evening. Not too warm, but very dry and pleasant.
