My point as to why the Green party thinks it's fine to destroy Estonian bogs but not Irish bogs stands, as does the extra cost in terms of energy (carbon) required to transport Estonian briquettes to Ireland.

This is another of those Green brainfarts, like encouraging us to buy diesel cars and then discovering that diesel engines cause worse pollution than petrol engines; and encouraging the use of fluorescent bulbs only then to discover that they have a high mercury content which is very bad for the environment.

Serious politicians would first look into the consequences of the policies they suggest rather than run with a half-baked suggestion the "x is good for the environment" when in fact it's not.

Aside from not addressing the point made to you, when did the Greens say what you're claiming they said?

Cn you point to when the greeen party told you do to any of the following?

The only time I heard Eamon Ryan talk about cars he told everyone to run it into the ground and not buy a new car, if buying a new car then look at electric

In terms of diesel, the recommendation was to buy a low CO2 car, not a diesel

Theres definitely no engineering backgroud to the greens. Thats one thing for sure.

So, which political parties do have an engineering background?

Nice Rant but nothing to do with Eamonn and the Greens.

Rhetorical questions don't normally require an answer, do they?

The greens have been in government on two occasions. On the first occasion they encouraged the purchase of diesel cars because they produce less CO2 per km driven, but forgot about the other noxious pollution; in the same period they decided that mercury-laden light bulbs were better than incandescent light bulbs, also because they cause less CO2 to be produced.

Regarding the briquettes, this is during their current stint in government - in case you were unaware of that.

Their collective heart might be in the right place, but they don't think things through very well.

Everything to with the greens and Ryan, as they are the ones whose policy regarding not burning Irish bogs is being enforced - all the while Ireland (BnaM) is importing and burning Estonian (or other foreign) bogs - which is a complete nonsense.

Surprised it was so close where the other contender hasn`t a hope of getting a seat in the next Dail. Not that it matters a great deal with Martin sitting back waiting to see if the bones will be worth picking after the GE.

More surprised that with such a good run in time to elect a new leader only a little over half of the 3,425 members bothered to vote.

The use of Diesel cars wasn't something that the Green party in Ireland came up with themselves. The promotion of Diesel cars up until 2015 was EU wide. And all European car manufacturers supplied information that showed Diesel engines to be less polluting.

The burning of inefficient and environmentally damaging fossil fuels is something that all of us should be against. The destruction of Bogs and wetlands in Ireland is against the EU Habitats Directive which Ireland signed up to.

The output from diesel cars was changed by the car companies, not the green party. You are aware of that? if the car companies never faked the results would the same issue have occured? the answer is no.

So you are blaming the Green Party for the corruption of car companies, plus if you think it was just VW you are sadly mistaken, all of the car companies did similar.

In terms of the bogs, well that was started in 2018. Not in the current government, the final closure happened during the current government but the plan was started in 2018

The banning of turf burning was also decided to happen by the previous government, it was never implemented because FF and FG couldn't agree how long they would give people.

Seems the claims you are making are incorrect and not based on facts

O’Gorman represents a shift for the Greens. First time for them that the party leader is one more interested in pushing social justice ideals than in pushing for actual green ideals.

For a party who’s core principle for a long time was to be a broad church united by a focus on the environment, it marks a big shift in priorities

he’s always going on about cars. Are you saying you didn’t hear him repeatedly calling for the banning of cars in Dublin City?

    https://www.newstalk.com/news/dublin-city-car-ban-will-be-transformative-for-the-better-ryan-1640337

Do a google search, literally always on about cars.

I listened to him today in multiple interviews and one in every 5 words he said is “policies”

We must see through our policies.

    Zero substance.

Im delighted he’s been made the leader of the greens. Another nail…

Reducing traffic in Dublin City is not the same as teplacing your car with electric.

I agree with banning cars in city centre, putting more cars into Dublin has helped it how? Maybe try something different?

Do you think we should continue pushing more cars into city centres?
