Virgin Media sites inaccessible

Has anyone seen any issues with accessing various sites via VirginMedia this morning?

I have a VirginMedia cable connection with box in modem mode only.

Test #1 via asus router on main machine (opendns)
Test #2 direct connection on a linux box (google dns) directly into a port on the modem

Same sites inaccessible with both connections, which would point to a virgin media issue.

They all work fine on a phone with a 4g connection.

I couldn't even access downdetector.ie unless it was through the phone on 4g.

There's some kind of broken routing going on for the last few hours.

Same here. Some sites easily accessible, but can't get RTE for example

It's falling down at the point where it should go from the local regional network onto their Aorta backbone, so it's a VM issue. All we can do is wait.

Issues here too. F U Virgin media for ruining my Sunday morning. I thought it was issues on my side.

Ahhh jáysus, been a couple of hours rebooting modem, turning off Asus router etc. trying to figure out what was going on. Then googling ipv4 and ipv6 from reading other threads.

And it's all just Virgin Media messing up? Their website says all is good. Examples of site I can't visit, ironically, is downdetector!

    Virgin have a link:

Interestingly you can enter any number at all and it will tell you instantly that there is no problem. We had an all day outage last week which Virgin acknowledged on their X and phone help, but the link above insisted that all was well.

Very frustrating. I can't log on to my BoI account whether by phone or computer. If this goes on the sh*t will really hit the fan.

I can get Boards, or the BBC or loads of other sites, though.

    Issues here.

Can't access RTE.ie through web browser for example, but can access BBC.com

Can access RTE.ie through mobile data connection though.

Can't fully access a game I play either https://cantinaroyale.io/ . Can't get into online games but can open ingame rewards.

Cant access downdetector through browser and virginmedia opening after long delays

    Rebooted virgin box and router.

rebooted virgin box, but not working here for rte.ie

maybe takes time to push through

It's back to normal in my area, so it's getting fixed at least. Presumably the rest can't be too far behind.

Same issue all day so far. No landline too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,832 ✭✭✭podgeandrodge

    Still issues for me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 kdceddj

in my case the issue seems to be connecting to anything hosted on cloudflare, that I was using as a dns. Switched to 8.8.8.8 and now I can access most of the sites, except the ones hosted on cloudflare

Was driving me demented this morning, turning on and off things, was convinced something on my network was acting up. Eventually tweaked that it was DNS as when connected to Nordvpn everything started working again

Cloudflare may be impacted, but it's not a DNS thing, unless you also can't reach their DNS servers.

This is rte.ie for me before and after:

    traceroute www.rte.ie
traceroute to www.rte.ie (104.18.124.28), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

All good for me now in Galway, it was troublesome all day up until now.

Seems to be getting back up, but the D/L speeds are very slow. I was getting 900m but am now on 100.

I'm loath to spend time on the phone or chat with them; most of which will be spent with them explaining why it's not a problem on their side, despite me having records going back to 2022.

Seems to be working for me now.

rte.ie and a few others that were down all morning are slow but loading now atleast…

When I was testing it was showing rte.ie responded with an ipv6 address and worked ok but anything that responded with an ipv4 address wasn't working. Couldn't ipv4 ping 8.8.8.8 or anything else.

I'm still having the same issues; intermittency between websites; **** internet experience…. to the point they asked me to reset my modem to its defaults…. anyone still having issues or all was solved but me?

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,408 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

Is it the same thing again this morning?, tethered to my mobile phone at the moment. Router light is normal colour but no internet connectivity
