We've had pur first big nod to "the kids are growing up" here. I was away on a cub scout camp at the weekend, back yesterday. But 2 of my elves are still there with scouts. Then our eldest, who has had no interest in drinking or having a social life up to now despite turning 18 last year, went out to a friend's house and texted in the wee hours that he was staying over. This is the first time in 18 years that it's just been us in the house in the morning and it's very very quiet 😆.... but I could get used to it.

Watching the forecast for Greece at the moment as we're heading out next week with just the youngest for a week. Looking at 30 degrees and I can't wait🌞🌞🌞

Office Christmas Party is a great film. Such a fun watch.

Was in the dentist this morning with the hygienist, spent the first few minutes talking about how dull, grey & cold its been the last couple of weeks.

Real feel for me, what with our holidays over, that the summer is kinda been & gone, can't see any significant improvement in the weather in the post so already planning for the kids going back to school in August (ours are back early enough on the 21st) and a short glamping trip just before then, with nothing else planned & finances tight until later in the year decent weather was the hope but nope, dull, grey & damp is all we have… think we'll still need to organise some weekend day trips though & simply be prepared for the weather, 7 more weeks of this would be utterly depressing!

I was saying similar to the OH @DvB we're just going to have to put on the rain coats and get out there because waiting for the nice weather is not a good plan!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,640 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Yep, you'd be sat indoors waiting! Its only now with no GAA matches until after they're back in school and we have some time at weekends we noticed how we'd need to just get on with it basically.

I never remember as a kid the entire summers being so bad. All my memories are of decent weather.

I heard on the news earlier that June was the coldest June since 2015, with the average temperate only 13°, whereas last year was the warmest June on record! Maybe this years summer will be the complete opposite to last year, awful up to mid July and then the sun will come out. All I can remember from last summer is, what seemed like, non-stop rain from July until beyond the end of the year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,640 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Vaguely remember hearing some mad stat that there wasn't a 24 hour period in Dublin that didn't have rain for something silly like 80 consecutive days, or something akin to that anyway implying we had A LOT of rain!

I'll try and bring some good news in - 2 colleagues and myself have got the ball rolling on organising the staff Christmas Party , very late in the year for us but we'll see what we can get. Will keep you updated.

We had a bit of mission getting our tenants out of the house at the weekend, meant to leave Saturday, left Sunday and also left a load of their old furniture. The good news is that after 15 years renting we will have our first home. Getting some bits and pieces fixed and the house fully painted then move in next Tuesday.

I already know where all the decorations will go.

Congratulations @Jude13 , best of luck in your new home. Won't be long till you're putting up that tree.

We've done the first quatre of the 100's!

Weather has been poor. I still have loads of blankets on my bed.

Haven't experienced those endless Summers days yet but there's still a nice few weeks to go.

Good Luck with the house @Jude13

Speaking of knowing where the decorations are going to go, I just checked the calendar and the 1st of December is a Sunday this year. We don't have young kids (Toy Show Night) so don't usually put up the decs till the first weekend of Dec.

The thought that's going through my head is - do we decorate on the Sat & Sun of the 30th of Nov and 1st of Dec?

Or do I take a day off work on Fri the 6th of Dec and make a long weekend of it?

    100% the 30th Nov and 1st Dec! 🎄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,171 ✭✭✭pigtail33

I hadn't looked at how the weekends fall this year, but I think it'll be Dec 6th/7th for me. I just can't do decorations in November! I may change my mind at the time though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,587 ✭✭✭tscul32

Will be 6th/7th for us too as we'll be in Frankfurt the previous weekend. Although the 7th is an elf's birthday so might be midweek after that instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,640 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Already have Friday Nov.29th booked off work for our decorating day (it was the first days leave I confirmed when coming into wok in January after the break) . Before the kids came along we would have always looked at around the 7th/8th Dec or the closest w/e to those kind of dates, but since the LLTS became a thing for the kids we started decorating that day and its become tradition now. Given the work that goes into getting the place decorated its nice to get the best part of 5 weeks out of it.

On a complete tangent, saw the weather forecast for the week ahead, shocking, looking like another wet washed out summer by the looks of it… what I wouldnt give for 2 or 3 weeks of bright sunny weather.

We usually go away in November and this year we won’t be back until 7th Dec. Will probably start prepping some stuff before we go but it will be 8th Dec before we actually put anything up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,113 ✭✭✭BK5

Won't be doing the decorations till the 6th or the 7th, put the decorations up only once in Nov and that was because it was a Covid year and we wanted to cheer ourselves up. A lot of people did that year mind. One girl in work put her decorations up at the end of October!

Also, if they are up too early the wife wants to take them down before the 6th of Jan to "get the place tidy again" and that ain't happening on my watch :)

I wouldn't mind a sun holiday in January, but don't think I'd like to go away for Christmas- but never say never!

We'll be sticking to the 8th of December.

My sister is abroad and the decorations ended up in her room and she won't be home for the Summer.(Probably.)

So, technically I can go in whenever amd have a nose at them. (I haven't).

Hoping she doesn't do a surprise trip because I'm not in the mood to dash to attic.

Next has Halloween stock on their website.

Apparently TKMaxx has stuff in store for it also.

Counting down the hours til my holiday to Madrid. First time in Spain and that side of the continent. Plenty plenty of suncream needed 😄

Had to buy this shirt, Kerrang TV finished a few weeks ago. Lots of views from me in the early 2000s

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,113 ✭✭✭BK5

Didn't know that Kerang was finished, that's terrible . There must be no money in music channels anymore, never seen so few of them.

It was said earlier in this thread that we might see very few Christmas music channels going forward which is a real shame. i always watch out for the music and the food channels to switch every year.

I distinctly remember when Trace switched to Christmas music one year on the 8th of September, even I had to admit that was a bit early. 😁

That playlist is awesome but heart breaking

As an old fogey, I remember when Kerang was a magazine. Growing up in the 70's and 80's when metal was in it's heyday and so many great bands with anthems that are still greats to this day. Sometimes you can feel are we going backwards?

youtube & suchlike killed those music channels really, people no longer wanted to wait to see what someone else presented, they wanted instant gratification for their music tastes & other platforms provided that unfortunately. Another generational thing gone forever i suspect. It'll come up in conversation in a few years akin to 'remember there used to be music channels on the TV' and 'you didn't get to pick what was played' as everything needs to be instant & streamable now. Sad in a way.

On a separate note, glad I'm WFH today, what a miserable day. So wet & gloomy, getting my breakfast earlier I had to put the lights on in the kitchen it was that dark, first time I've had to do that in weeks/months and I'd normally be down in the kitchen earlier too.

I love the longer brighter days of the summer but the weather is making it so difficult at the moment, its so changeable.

God its mouldy today. Mad comparing it to last night sitting out having a bbq.

I'm working from home and its so grey I think I might have to throw the lights on.

I booked my dog kennels and leave for my annual Halloween party so excited to have that in the works. Now I've given people the date its official!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,113 ✭✭✭BK5

Could do with some Christmas cheer today, it is miserable out there. Was out in it for most of the day.

Supposed to get better as the week rolls on.

We booked our staff Christmas Party yesterday, having it in a hotel on the 14th Dec!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,078 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

I was wondering when would I start seeing pictures of stuff to come.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,171 ✭✭✭pigtail33

It was truly miserable out, in Dublin anyway. I managed to get out for a walk at lunch as the rain had stopped, but it was very cold and windy. How can the weather change so much overnight? It was warm enough to sit outside 24 hours ago!

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,678 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

It was actually pretty dark this morning when I was getting up.

Like, I love Christmas and love the winter, but getting up in the morning when it's cold, rainy and pitch dark is miserable. 🙁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,640 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Yeah, Felt out of place given how bright it's been even before 6am.

I'm out in Ashbourne here, as good as some of the days have been, loads of people have said to me how chilly it is in the mornings and evenings. As one workmate said "it's like a morning in October".

Was going to put the heating on for an hour this evening but will resist.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,078 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

That's why I kind of like the Winter months at least you know their going to be bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,587 ✭✭✭tscul32

Miserable today alright. Glad I'm off to crete for a week on Thursday 😁😁 Had to bring my dad into A&E last week and he ended up having surgery this morning. Thankfully all is reported to have gone well so I can relax a bit on the hols.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,678 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

Oh, Crete- lovely! Your poor dad, hope he makes a swift recovery.

It's just prising myself out of bed on the dark mornings that is tough. I can deal with the weather, because, like you say, at least you know it's meant to be crap and don't feel as cheated as in the summer!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,936 ✭✭✭Cork Lass

We did put our heating on for an hour this evening. It was a cold miserable day here, really felt like it could have been October. I’m actually sick of this bloody weather and my OH is sick of listening to me saying it 🙁.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,072 ✭✭✭antimatterx

It feels like October. I put the heating on this morning for an hour. I have to say, the cats loved it 🤣

My Mr put the heat on yesterday for an hour too… I'm always slagging her for being a cold thing but it seems she wasn't the only one.

    Sums up our summer really.

Unfortunately we may have to get used to it… forecast for the next week or so is pretty much rinse & repeat of the last few days… its gonna be a damp & gloomy summer by the looks of it.

I say skip straight to November.
