Used ID3/ID4

Hi, I am considering buying a used ID3/4 2021/22 model. Can anyone please tell me, what to look for when buying a used ID3/4 from a private seller? Do I need to take the car to vw dealer to get it checked? any other suggestions, please welcome. First time buying EV, so not sure what to look for.

Also I heard a bunch of new EVs are arriving in the next 4-6 months.. like EV3, BYD etc ard 30K budget. Should I wait or get a used ID4 now?

used EVs are good value at the moment so I wouldn’t wait. Try to get something with up to date software and a good bit of warranty on it. Check out the tyres as well. Expensive enough job if they need replacing.

We bought a 2021 iD3 from a dealer. Could definitely have got a bit cheaper privately but they gave a decent trade in and warranty. Software was up to date too.

Check the service history if buying privately. Warranty is usually subject to service intervals I think.

Service history is always a nice thing to have in a used car of course, but remember that in a relatively new used EV, a service could be as little as having a good look over, checking brake discs, filters etc. There isn't much to an EV service, especially if it's only a year or two old.

VW only offer 3 years manufacturer warranty so imo best to buy from a VW dealer (over other dealers) who will provide a years manufacturers warranty on a 2021 car. The 2022 will have some manufacturers warranty left. Going privately though is often cheaper.

As others have said check the tyres. I bought a five euro thread depth guage from Amazon. If they are anywhere near 3 or 4mm then for a start you have room to haggle something like €800 off the price.

However if you can wait then do so. There's tons of second hand EV's to choose and that won't change in the next 6 months.
