I'm clutching at straws here, and this might be too obvious, but did you select the relevant HDMI input? Sorry if this is too obvious but just had to ask in case!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,688 ✭✭✭traco

I did and it is active and TV sees something attached to the port but no pic. Sound also exits from phone and not TV speakers. It was a 2 min test so I will try it again with power on it. TV is a Samsung HD not UHD or 4k if that makes any difference.

I can always fall back to the chromecast but I'd say 50% of hotel wifi systems are a pain with logins and verifications. Then they log you out eetc etc. I always have a few movies of box sets on the phone so if this worked it would be convenient. No faffing around and its nice and small.

+1 for the firestick. I keep one in my suitcase for work. Great also for kids in hotels.

I tried the chromecast, but found it was a complete PITA dealing with wifi. Also problematic if you want to use a VPN, as I never use public/open wifi in hotels after a colleagues laptop was hacked using an open hotel network a couple of years back.

can you confirm the version of the Beta you are on?

How do you mean "with power on it"? Shouldn't require power?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,688 ✭✭✭traco

Phone is on Android 14 if thats what you mean by Beta? With respect to power I just meant have it connected to a power supply in case the phone wasn't supplying it with enough power.

@Traco See my previous post above - did you opt into the BETA program - https://www.google.com/android/beta

When you enrol you get an over the air update of the software…that's what allows the usb-c to HDMI to work. Now, there are downsides to enrolling, sometimes you get software that can be buggy. And it's a tad awkward to withdraw out of the Beta program. Unless you are a bit techy and happy with this, I'd wait until a formal public release comes along.

Ported to GoMo today. Happy to report VoLTE and VoWiFi working on the Pixel 8.

Any issues with receiving calls on VoWiFi for you?
I had an issue where phone would only ring three times max when receiving a call before hanging up.
I turned off VoWiFi and it seems to be OK again.

Has anyone had an issue with a pink line appearing on screen? I've had the phone since December and it has been appearing in the last two weeks or so, getting more frequent (almost every time I unlock the screen, it eventually disappears but is making the phone almost unusable for a few mins after unlock.

I bought on Amazon Spain and they seem to be replacing fairly easily (returning the current phone) but wondering if it is a known issue and if it will happen to the new device too?

No thank God, though a buddy has similar issues whilst using what's app

But green lines instead of pink

I'd a factory reset if twas me and it was really bugging me

You'd hope to get a few years out of the pixel before anything like that occurred

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,716 ✭✭✭corks finest

Hope U get sorted, pls keep us informed as it could happen to anyone here,

Interesting to see how U get sorted etc

Remarkably this issue has disappeared ever since I organised the return. I was sure it was a hardware issue as I had four or five days of it progressively being worse to the point of unusable. I now have the new phone and supposedly have to return the old one so let's see how that goes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 513 ✭✭✭MickH503

I ported to GoMo last week … today I noticed I receive a call and when I answer the call disconnects. Same thing happened a few times and I noticed a message one of the times saying something like it couldn't connect to the server. Problem is definitely not on my side as there is good wifi coverage where I was when calls came in. I have disabled WiFi calling now.

3 still have it for €600 but now it seems if we purchase from them you get a choice of a pixel watch 1 or pixel earbuds.

Going to head into a three shop today and see can if i pick it up. If they try tell me to buy credit I'll just order online.

Am I right in saying you can't do the same trade-in offer as 8a?

    I don't think so unfortunately.

Not seeing any trade in deal for the normal pixel 8.

Anyones pixel 8 pro dropping calls of late?

    Mine is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 357 ✭✭pandabat

So rarely on voice calls these days but it did happen me mid-call last Friday and I don't think it was due to me hitting hang up. It could be another month before I talk on the phone again though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,716 ✭✭✭corks finest

Googled it , seemingly happening a lot,GP 7 pro aswell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 357 ✭✭pandabat

June update will be along in a week or two, could well end up being fixed in that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,819 ✭✭✭lertsnim

Yes. Happened multiple times during the last couple of weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,716 ✭✭✭corks finest

Hopefully will be addressed in an update soon as it's fairly widespread ( the problem)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,716 ✭✭✭corks finest

Hopefully,,,,, happening on hands free in car aswell,I'd changed cars and thought twas the Bluetooth in car playing up it for a 3 day period it happened near each call,

Again last evening, bloody annoying as the OP may think it's being done on purpose 🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,716 ✭✭✭corks finest

According to the Google pixel community etc etc this is being addressed in the next software update being rolled out soon,

    Thank God

Hi, I've been reading this thread and see some have purchased Pixel phones through Three as it works out cheaper. My wife is looking for a Pixel & is with Eir, is there any disadvantages to purchasing it through Three? I was wondering if for example the IMEI number would be registered with Three and if the phone was lost or stolen you would have to go through Three to get it blocked. This would be a problem as she is not with Three.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 357 ✭✭pandabat

I bought my phone from Google but they can't do IMEI blocking so I'd need to call my SIM provider to get it done. People port around networks all the time - you just call your current provider to get the IMEI blocked when you're getting your stolen SIM disabled and ordering a replacement. At the end of the day though, you're unlikely to ever the see the stolen phone again. While it might give more peace of mind to know that perhaps no one else is benefitting from it, it doesn't really amount to a whole hill of beans if it's blocked - you'll still be down a phone. There are probably means by which to reprogram the IMEI code anyway for the dedicated criminal so wouldn't stress too much about it

Have the exact same issue. Very annoying as VoWIFI is much needed due to poor signal in the house. But I'm now constantly having to ring people back because I miss their calls.

    Price drops on google store

    Pixel 8A 509 (was 559)

Pixel 8 599 (was 799) also available for 199.67/month with 3 monthly installments

    Pixel 8 Pro 829 (was 1099)

    Buds 169 (was 229)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,732 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

The 8a is still cheaper in Three at €440.

The 8 is brought in line with 3 and the Pro is cheaper than 3(€919).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,867 ✭✭✭Red Silurian

I like the idea of 3 payments of €200 a month for the 8, can't seem to get it to work for me though

Does your network know the IMEI even if you haven't bought the phone from your network? As far as I know IMEI blocking only extends to Ireland so to get it unblocked they just need to bring it outside of the country

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 357 ✭✭pandabat

That IMEI info is part of the negotiation for joining the network (along with your SIM) afaik so the network can get that info at some point. Can't recall if it normally appears in call data records. You might be correct in regard you say re blocking though - I'm not sure how far and wide the black-listing extends

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,548 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

I don't think it has been mentioned yet, but the Google Gemini app (ChatGPT equivalent) is now available in Ireland (since the start of June). It replaces the google assistant on your phone (you can switch back if you don't like it).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,716 ✭✭✭corks finest

    Thanks,never knew about it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,819 ✭✭✭lertsnim

I switched it back to the regular Google Assistant as it couldn't do things like stream radio etc. Instead of playing RTÉ Gold for example I get told about RTÉ Gold.

    Price increases on google store

    Pixel 8A 559 (was 509)

    Pixel 8 799 (was 599)

    Pixel 8 Pro 1099 (was 899)

    Buds 229 (was 169)

Also if you go to the US store, as well as being treated to lower prices, it looks like the Pixel 9 will be revealed on the 8th of Undecember 13th of August

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,434 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

US store prices are shown exclusive of Vat. Also did the Irish store not have a sale on for the last little while? The prices are most likely back to normal RRP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,320 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

Anyone remember if prices go down much on previous models when a new one is released? Was going to buy a p8 pro but will it drop more much more than the current price of €719 (in bricks and mortar shops) with the 9 coming out soon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,152 ✭✭✭_CreeD_

I think it depends on if they up the new price majorly or not. There has to be a financial incentive so if they don't up the P9 then the P8 will drop. I'd expect the initial dif. to be relatively minor, then after a few months it will increase as they try and offload older stock.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,320 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

Yeah, I suppose the 8 pro was €1100 release, so €719 isn't realistic if the 9 has a similar price. Obviously don't want to pay €719 for an 8 and in a month the 9 comes out at €900.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,674 ✭✭✭wassie

The Vodafone store historically has had good discounts on previous gen Pixel phones for prepaid plans, so worth keeping an eye on.

Although from memory discounts on the 7 weren't so good with the release of the 8 series last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,320 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

Fúck it, bought the 8 pro

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,716 ✭✭✭corks finest

    Great phone tbh

    Have mine a good while

    All good

The pricing for the Pixel 9 series has leaked and looks like they've fúcked another €100 on the price this year. Pixel 9 starts at €899 now and the 9 Pro XL (basically the new 8 Pro) starts at €1199.
