Travel insurance and "seat selection" on Ryan Air flights?

Ryan Air make the majority of their money with the "add ons".

Just a flying visit for me, travelling light, so I can skip most of these.

But "seat selection", is it worth doing?

    Hour and a half flight.

    And travel insurance?

Three days, two nights, staying in a youth hostel.

I've never had any issues but saw a dude get all his gear snatched one time, it was terrible.

    Thoughts?

Don't bother with seat selection. I would always have travel insurance going abroad, it doesn't matter where. You don't want your family doing fundraisers to get you home! You don't have to take Ryanair's insurance. Most of the main insurers offer travel insurance. You can get travel insurance for single trips or annual policies.

I'm with Laya and their single trip plan is slightly more than what Ryan Air is offering.

It's ticket refunds is the event something comes up and I can't travel I may have to avail of.

I think with some external insurers, they have an "excess" you're obliged to pay before the refund kicks in.

Cause the tickets I'm buying are so cheap, that would defeat the purpose of the insurance.

But with Ryan Air, I haven't been able to find any info on an "excess", they mention their travel insurance reimburses tickets in the event of a cancelation, so I assume that would be fully covered….. (anyone?)

I'd go with Laya as the company are known to you. I wouldn't be overly concerned about recouping the cost of a cheap trip. It's costs like medical evacuation back to Ireland I'd be thinking about which would eclipse the cost of most trips.

I think that's on my standard health insurance plan:

I have the EU health insurance card also.

I guess it can't hurt to have addition ryan air cover in the case of lost belongings even?

We have VHI travel insurance and for the cost of it it's well worth the money. We got the ferry to Spain and due to bad weather got cancelled. They covered the accommodation and pay us due to the delay. Another year, my partner twisted an ankle and had to go to the doctor for an X-Ray and we called the insurance and they gave us the contact of a private hospital where they took care of us and covered the cost. We are a family and for 160€/year we are all covered during our holidays (we pay 20 or 25€ to remove the 85€ excess). As someone mentioned I wouldn't like to be in a foreign country in need of an air ambulance or legal support without travel insurance… If you have medical insurance I would go for the same company as it will make things easier for you if a medical claim is required

    X Cover via Ryanair:

They're suddenly a lot more thorough about what is and is not covered AFTER you buy their plan.

Unsure if I can cancel this now, bought it with the flight (and Ryanair don't like to refund), but I'd actually get cover with Laya (my insurance company) if I could now.

It was only 13 euro so no big issue, but there's so many damn exceptions with "X Cover".

Lesson learned, just buy the flight from Ryanair,as generally they're a company not to be trusted.

Though, looking at Laya, they do have a decent excess for cancellations also.

What's going on with that hospital benefit?

    15 euro per day?

    lol

I wouldn't bother with seat selection unless it's a very long flight - maybe over 3 hours.

I'd be surprised if the details of the travel insurance policy aren't available before you purchase. Usually Ryanair are scrupulous about complying with their legal obligations.
