    hi

I have never been to Tenerife or any of the Canary Islands.

Can anyone recommend a car rental company?
    is it generally expensive?

    Gentle bump on this.

Also, does anybody know whats the cheapest taxi app in Tenerife - Bolt, Uber, Freenow etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,114 ✭✭✭BraveDonut

Rented cars in the canaries quite a few times. But, never in Tenerife.
I have used CICAR (Canary Islands Car) and found them to be great - no messing around with insurance excess and all that malarky.

We always use Auto Reisen in gran canaria and fuerteventura. Never any issues with them

    Thanks all.

Does anyone have any suggestions of transfer companies from Tenerife South Airport to a hotel about 25km away in Adeje/Santa Cruz?

Been to Lanza and Fuertaventura a good bit. Was in Playa Blanca back in June - used CiCar (first time renting a car there). Couldn't fault them. Will be making car rental part of any future hols in the Canaries.

I just found the local taxis to work fine in Tenerife.
Taxi from Airport to Puerto de Santiago last year was reasonable.
    Adeje should be approx. €30

I am flying to Tenerife south airport and staying in hard rock hotel in Adeje so not sure if this is a similar journey to you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,114 ✭✭✭BraveDonut

My taxi was for 4 adults from Tenerife South Airport to Puerto de Santiago, which is way further north. The fair was somewhere between €50 and €60 for 40km.
You are about 26km from the airport

Thanks. Interesting. Cheapest Uber is showing up as 71 Euro for 26km journey

Did you just get a standard taxis in queue at airport or a transfer or Uber etc?

@Obi if you were a party of one or two with not much luggage ( :) ) then the island bus service ( TITSA.COM ) would be worth a look …… ( but if you are 4+ and stacks of luggage then a car / minibus is yer man )

    Hi,

To answer the OP: I rented in 2021 using rentalcars website. TopCar was the company. Was fine. Cost 175 for the week. You might be able to get it cheaper. That was just after lockdown. If you have a small child maybe bring your own baby seat as some companies are now charging per day for the seat. Recently I've used carjet and they've been fine. There's not much comeback if something goes wrong but you can get some great deals. I recently hired a car for 70 euro for 6 days in Spain.

autoreisen is prob the best but beware you get older cars that have plenty of scratches and they aren't picky once its not damaged.

Uber is high end in Tenerife, local taxis are much cheaper. or the 40 bus is very good if that suits, 3.70 a person.

Sanasty cars, Tenerife is very good. He is also the blogger on youtube who does video walks under the name "Knightsrider" He is from the UK and just opened a bar called "buddies". Check youtube. He did us a very good deal with a car delivered and collected from our hotel the Coloumbous. A nice Skoda, spotless and new.

ended up getting a taxi fro. Airport to the hard rock hotel. Just went to the standard taxi rank outside the airport with metered taxi. Cost was 43 Euro. Beats the 71 Euro from Uber anyway. 2 adults and 2 kids with bags etc

Your Uber was for Uber black.. That's always 20/30 more expensive than a regular Uber

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,159 ✭✭✭obi604

indeed. But still the cheapest option. No other cheaper option available and I checked on and off for about 45 mins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,159 ✭✭✭obi604

I have no bother with older cars as long as they are functional and do the job 🤓

Never had any issue with them. And they don't have the company logo plastered over them like some rental crowds. If you are getting kids seats, you collect them yourselves from a van parked in the car park.

Last car I got had 120k km on the clock.

Looks like they only offer pickup from the airport. I’ve gone from airport now so a pain to go back to airport again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,705 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

Correct, covid stopped orcar who they used to partner with in Las Americas.

I think cicar have a pickup by Puerto los cris

anyone ever done a trip to mount Teide. Read reviews and some say to just go up as far as the cable car and don’t bother getting the cable car at all as it’s like 40 Euro per adult and views from where cable car base station is are good anyway.

it seems buses bring you to the cable car , like the standard Titsa buses. Looks like it’s a 1.5 hour journey from hard rock hotel area.

Yes - plenty of taxis just waiting for fares after an early morning flight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭delboy85

I did an organised trip to Mount Teide about 5 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'd recommend doing the cable car (unless you have a fear of heights). I thought the views from the top were pretty special.

I think it would be a shame to go all the way to the cable car station and then not take the trip to the top.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,159 ✭✭✭obi604

Noted. Thank you. We did Eiffel Tower a few months ago so heights should be ok. Think 8 mins up on cable car so need to defo not be wary of being in there for that time.

Do you know if you can get a public bus to Mount Teide?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭delboy85

I'm not sure about public busses. I have a vague recollection that there may be public busses but they may be very infrequent. But I'm really not sure. I could be misremembering!

We just booked a half day (morning) organised trip with a random travel agent that was close to our apartment. Again, I can't remember how much we paid for it and how much extra we paid for the cable car. But I'm sure we wouldn't have booked it if it was crazy expensive.

But it's well worth doing. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Tenerife. The cable cars are large and hold lots of people.

    "I'm not sure about public busses…. "

The main public bus system is run by TITSA

I've gone up on the TITSA bus a few times but always from Puerta De La Cruz on the other side of the island so can't comment on what happens from the south.

We're into hiking so we took the bus to the Mirador hotel in the middle of the caldera of Teide, then walk back north through the lava fields within the crater for about 14 klm and then wait for the bus returning down. It might be a similar service coming from the south.

back again with questions. I have a 10 year old and we like to go for a kick around. Have been checking locally here for a public park or even looking at google maps and to look for green areas.

I can find tennis courts and basketball courts and Astro type soccer pitches, but they are either part of a school, college or hotel or you have to pay. Any park is just kinda tress and concrete paths, no open areas of green grass. I had the same issue in Portugal last year, could not find a green grass area.
anyone know of any public green grass in South Tenerife?

Strange when you compare this to Ireland……..any amount of parks with green grass or even gaa or soccer pitches that you can wander in to for a kick around.

Got a VW polo for 7 days. Cost = 125 with the extra insurance of 2 Euro per day. Does not have Apple CarPlay. 93,000km on the clock.

Question about on street parking around costa Adeje. Is it free?
And how do I know the free spots, is it a broken white line?

me……..again. Can anyone recommend an Irish pub to watch the football all Ireland in around Costa Adeje?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,558 ✭✭✭Xander10

I'd imagine mcguires irish bar will have it on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,159 ✭✭✭obi604

I dropped in to 2 ‘Irish’ bars today, forget what they were called. No signs up about showing the match etc, asked staff and they hadn’t a breeze what I was on about.
