Getting low paid drivers to follow systems is beyond Amazon. At least for now. The systems make for better customer service. And if you're unhappy, where is the alternative company competing on service.

At this stage it's too big a monopoly for the regulators to dare go near.

This order was received to delivery depot on Friday morning, but never went out for delivery. Got a note yesterday evening to say it was late, expected by Monday and to contact them Tuesday for a refund if still not delivered.

Early this morning it was again marked as received into delivery depot and nothing since.

My fear is this is just going to loop until Monday, which is a pain as I won't be there to collect it next week.

Jess Kelly on Newstalk has just said that Amazon Germany no longer deliver outside Germany.

Any idea if this is true?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,253 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

And what source did Jess Kelly from Newstalk provide?

If you go onto amazon.de you can see that they still deliver so unless Jess has an insight she does not share, this looks like "fake news".

I suspect if one were to analyse what the likes of weckler, weston, Jess Kelly and all the other radio spacefiller persons say one would find a fair percentage of guff or broadly accepted but not necessarily entirely accurate pronouncements

It worries me that people might take them as being 100% accurate tbh

But I doubt I'd be any better if part of my job was to talk on demand on various radio stations and not let it go silent for a millisecond....must be a terrible job...you can't really go into the minutiae or people would tune out so you have to make relatively safe bland pronouncements as if they are some sort of expert tip or trick or interesting....that presumably anybody current or with a brain already knows and if they don't whatever little tidbit it is probably won't help much in isolation.....some of them drop some fairly terrible inaccurate shite occasionally too.

Amazon.de have always had sellers that don't ship to Ireland or outside of Germany afaik.....and again afaik there's no blanket policy on amazon.de not yo ship to another EU market ...

I've noticed it tends to be bulkier items like tools gardening appliances when I buy but tbh there was usually another seller willing...although it was sometimes too expensive to be worth it

And in every case I could get around it with a forwarding service if I wanted to et c

tbh I either usually tune them out as useless soundbites or listen waiting for the clanger

Weston is the master of not saying anything inaccurate often but just summarising what the dogs on the street know....

I can't wait until some of the newer ones try to get a profile by saying and printing stuff thats "edgy"

Ordered from Amazon DE this morning - no issues, item on way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 595 ✭✭✭EarWig

She may have confused the no free delivery thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,253 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

Plus Amazon.de is not really Amazon Germany, just like with all the other domains it's just a different frontend for the same sale from Amazon EU Sarl just with different price/availability and shipping cost. And obviously there is a restriction on some items that cannot be delivered cross borders or with too high a shipping cost.

And even than in the end the goods might not actually come from a warehouse in the same country you order from, I have Amazon.de orders from warehouses in Germany, Ireland (yes 2-day premium for some items), the UK, France, Spain or Italy via UPS or AnPost.

That is why tools like hagglezone are so important, money can be saved by choosing a different country of sale sometimes.

I find it hard to believe that Amazon Europe will no longer accept orders via the amazon.de webpage for customers in other EU countries, plus doing so might even be against the law.

    Hi,

I placed an order on Amazon a few days ago. It was not dispatched yet.

I got an email today informing me that my order has been cancelled?

Has this ever happened to anyone? What are the possible reasons?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,332 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

More excuses than reasons most of the time.

    1. Its not in stock and they can't get more stock
    2. Its too expensive to ship it to you
    3. Its not in a warehouse that ships to Ireland
    4. Third party seller won't sell to Ireland because shipping costs more.
    5. Third party seller has cancelled it for their own reasons.
    6. Item had a safety issue
    7. Someone has realised there are batteries in it.
    8. Amazon has had issues with the 3rd party seller.
    9. Problem with item - Amazon discovered it was fake.
    10. etc etc

and before I forget its never happened to me but I've had stuff that took months to dispatch because it was too expensive to send to Ireland (they were looking to find a cheaper carrier) or warehouse wouldn't ship to Ireland.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Thanks very much for the info @The Continental Op.

I've re ordered the item from a different seller, so fingers crossed it works out better! 🤞

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,332 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

I thought it would be from a third party seller. Amazon tend not to do that and leave it to Customer Services to try to get you to cancel the order when you ring up to complain how long you have been waiting.

I'm quite sure some third party sellers have no idea of the cost of shipping to Ireland until they get hit with the bill. Recently got a great deal for only £8 shipping. Two days later shipping for the same item had gone up to £20. Noticed in the past when I have bought from Amazon Market Place sellers that I can only get the item once and afterwards it becomes no longer available to Ireland.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Third party sellers are so hit and miss on Amazon that I tend to just ignore them (unless they are fulfilled by Amazon). There's always some hassle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,426 ✭✭✭jj880

This sounds more like it thanks. My order is "Sold By: Amazon EU S.a.r.L.". Nearly 2 months waiting for a dispatch date. I checked and items have been in stock a few times. I even messaged an agent when they were in stock and was promised theyd be dispatched inside 48 hours. Still waiting. If its to avoid paying shipping to Ireland it must be p!ssing a lot of people off. Maybe theyre fobbing everyone off until the IE website launches. Very poor way to treat long time customers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,256 ✭✭✭I am me123

Thanks, I got a bit of a startle when I got the cancellation email, as I order quite a bit from Amazon, and this is the first time Amazon actually cancelled an item. Glad it's cleared up now though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,256 ✭✭✭I am me123

Thanks very much for the info. I'll take the advice on board. 😊

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,332 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

Thats whats happened to me. Mostly for items that are heavy. Waited 4 months for one item and finally got on to CS everyday for two weeks (sat down with my morning coffee) seems the item was too heavy for the courier they used and they couldn't find another courier to take it????? Item was only stocked in one warehouse that would deliver to UK next day (Prime) no problem but wouldn't deliver to Ireland even though the listing allowed me to buy it.

After all my complaints including iirc a couple of complaint escalations it arrived. Great deal as it went up in price about 50% over the time I was waiting.

I think at least 10 reps promised me the item would be dispatched within 24 hours on one chat 5 reps just left the chat so I had to start again with a new rep.

If you want the item don't give up.

My usual argument is "Why do I pay for Prime when I get second class service".

I have to return an item that is 13.45KG to Amazon UK. The return address is Fife, UK. I am liable for the shipping cost (item is not faulty). What's the best way to ship this back to them?

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭PenguinForce

Has there been much delays with orders made on prime day?

I ordered three items. A veg chopper, pencils and a laptop. The first two was meant to arrive yesterday but have been stuck in preparing to dispatch since Saturday and now is delayed and no update so far. The laptop is meant to be here today but I doubt that will happen as it had not been dispatched yet. When I ordered the laptop there's still 4 left in stock and now there's none.

The laptop is expensive and I've never ordered anything that pricey on Amazon. So I'm more concerned if there's issue with payment but I haven't received anything from Amazon regarding any payment issues. I plan to contact customer support tomorrow if there are no changes. Anyone else experiencing issues?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,332 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

Have three things ordered in the last few days all have been dispatched and are on time. One is coming from France (but ordered on uk) and as expected won't be here for a couple more days. Stuff coming from the UK was ordered Sat and Sun and will be here Tuesday.

Get on to CS and put a rocket up them. Sounds like one of their fulfillment center decisions not to dispatch. Say you are paying for Prime and not getting the service. Ask for specific answers and question everything then ask to escalate the issue. You have a delivery date for the laptop which is good! If you didn't I'd be worried.

If CS have a bullshit excuse about order being stuck in the system and to cancel and reorder don't do it. Its a trick to get rid of you.

Wake me up when it's all over.

    Amazon product review VANISHES!

Annoying how sellers can manipulate feedback. Gave a crappy review of some chinese tat I should have known better about buying. Seller sends me a msg saying they will refund if I contact them. I report this as "The seller tried to influence my customer review feedback" and my feedback gets deleted.

The battle continues as I've now written an even worse review, well justified as the product is even worse than I first reported.

Amazon CS are the pits. I bought a pair of wireless headphones for the PS5. After a while they started giving the PS5 stick drift. Nothing I could do, apart from shut everything down, and then give it 10 minutes before it would start again.

Amazon CS told me to return it, and the would reimburse the shipping. Got a quote from UPS for 11.99. Delivered to Scotland, Amazon refunded the cost of the headphones and then £9 before I got the bill from UPS - which arrived a few days later at €83!!!! €71 for Lithium Ion charge, which I had declared before shipment. Anyway, that's another battle with UPS.

I told Amazon that the bill had come in, and then they told me to keep the headphones….a bit late considering they were sitting in their warehouse. So they said, yes, they would refund me in 5-7 days. That was over 6 weeks ago, and they keep fobbing me off constantly, despite telling me 3 times that my money was safe, it would be refunded etc, etc. On Saturday they told me 48 hours after I threatened them with a small claim procedure.

Never again with Amazon. Place is full of cheap Chinese tat these days, and anything decent can be got for the same price if you look around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,426 ✭✭✭jj880

The 48 hours line seems to be the new mantra for Amazon CS. I always get that too.

Im a but curious. Unless Im reading your post wrong. Are you saying wireless earphones caused stick drift? Is that a typo?

I used work for Amazon CS back in 2008 and 2009. Their policies then versus what it is now have changed dramatically. Back then it was basically a given that if a customer had an issue you'd replace or refund the item, it was all about making sure the customer was happy.

When I started there was a mantra that they wanted to be the number 1 customer focused company in the world or something to that effect. That is long in the past now.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,070 Mod ✭✭✭✭whiterebel

No, not a typo. Every time after a few minutes it went around and around in circles, or looked up. Perfect when I didn't use them. They used a USB dongle and it seemed to drive the PS5 haywire.

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭PenguinForce

I got an email earlier for the laptop and the estimate for delivery is now Thursday. Then another email was sent regarding the two items being delayed in dispatching but no estimate for those. All items are dispatched by Amazon and the laptop is sold directly by them.

I'm wondering if they are trying to dispatch 3 items together and waiting for the laptop to process. They haven't charged my card yet. From what I know they don't normally charge until they dispatch. I have no idea if Amazon can charge only for 2 items out of an order or they have to charge everything together.

In any case I would be pretty uncomfortable if they charge me 3.5 grand if they only dispatch the veg chopper and pencil set and laptop is still not dispatched.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,332 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

Amazon can and do charge for the items individually or sometimes as a group. They have more than 20 fulfillment centers and there is a good chance of 3 items not all 3 will be in one warehouse.

Is this Prime or not? Non Prime orders always take a bit longer to dispatch.

Wake me up when it's all over.

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭PenguinForce

I generally only order bits and bobs so I never really check.

Is a prime order. Bought the items during prime sale.

Well while my stuff wasn't delayed I normally expect delays after Prime day and Black Friday anything up to a week.

However I'd still get on to CS when you can spare a few minutes and ask them why you would pay for Prime and have to wait for a 3.5k order?

Wake me up when it's all over.

Ordered a number of items on day 2 of prime day (Thursday) and they were all delivered Saturday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 595 ✭✭✭EarWig

Have they completely stopped trying a neighbour for delivery?

That's been my experience recently, but I've only been buying small value items.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,332 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

I think trying a neighbor is out because it takes too long, the drivers have too much work and not enough time as it is.

Wake me up when it's all over.

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭PenguinForce

Yeah, I plan to get onto them today. My credit card has been charged the full price of the order yesterday as well. The new estimate for the laptop is due for tomorrow and I hope I get a dispatch email today. And still no updates for the other two items.

Is there way to ask the status of a whole order? When I go into customer service it list individual items.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,332 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

You can tell by the tracking if the stuff is in one delivery because all the items will have the same tracking number. CS should be able to see where the stuff is coming from and know if its all one or individual.

Wake me up when it's all over.

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭PenguinForce

Chatted to a customer service person via webchat. From what the person said it looks like the laptop is coming from a far away fulfilment center as it wasn't available from the nearest one hence why the whole order is stuck as it's waiting for laptop to arrive. He said he has raised a ticket and the order should be with me within 24 hours from now. I don't know whether if that means is going to be dispatched and deliver tomorrow on the same day from the fulfilment center in Ireland or not. So far I have not received dispatch email.

I guess if it's not here tomorrow I will have to be back on them…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,332 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

That all sounds very positive to me. I find more and more stuff coming from Amazon in France and that takes about a week. You can normally tell from the date Amazon give for when an item should be delivered if its a week off then its probably coming from Germany or France.

Just to add to your worries check you'll be getting a UK Keyboard? Assume far away in this case means other side of UK and not Europe?

Wake me up when it's all over.

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭PenguinForce

Good catch. I gone back to check the laptop that I ordered and it doesn't say specifically UK layout at product info. The only part that said UK layout is in the "From manufacturer" section where you see all the "fancy" photos of the laptop is.

I searched in the specific info as well. I found an answer to someone asking about keyboard layout for another model as it also doesn't mention it. The answer said normally laptop sold on Amazon UK has UK layout and if it's not it will specify it in the product info.

Hopefully this far away fulfilment center is just somewhere in the UK

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭PenguinForce

I got another email and the delivery is now delayed again to the 29th. I'm starting to think they either sold more than what is in stock or some logistical issue has gone really wrong. Coincidentally the laptop went back up to 1 in stock yesterday after I contacted customer support and by end of the day is all gone.

Customer support just said they will submit another ticket directly to fulfilment center and I should receive a confirmation within 2 days for dispatch. It was stuck because of technical issues.

The main thing is that you got a delivery date. When that happens Amazon normally honour it as best they can. Worse is when they have it in stock but never give you a delivery date thats when you know you are being messed around.

    Hi,

I selected the delivery option "Priority Delivery" for an item I ordered. Does this just mean I will recieve my parcel faster than with Standard Delivery'? Are there additional charges for Priority Delivery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,579 ✭✭✭✭Jim_Hodge

I'm not trying to be smart but do you have a query with every Amazon order you place?😉

It would have shown the priority delivery charge when you selected it and it would also have shown in the final costs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,071 ✭✭✭NewbridgeIR

For Amazon.com (US), priority delivery is about 50% more expensive than standard but you get the items within 2 or 3 days. Delivery by UPS.

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭PenguinForce

I got another email this morning with an update to my laptop that said "We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date". It has been delayed twice already.

I got in contact with CS again. I was told that there was ticket logged on 26th last Friday and was investigated. The item is currently planned to get into shipment to the carrier facility on 2nd of August. The fulfillment center will ship the item on the 2nd. I'm not sure if the carrier facility is different to fulfillment centers or the same thing?

Then I got £5 promotional cert added to my account as an apology. It can be applied to items shipped and sold by Amazon.

I guess I have to wait again and see if it comes next week as I doubt I will get it by 2nd. By the sound of it they ran out of stock and they sold more than they have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,332 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

Thats the "we are going to fcuck you about email".

Have you been charged for the full order? If so get on to CS and ask for you money back until they ship which at this stage I'd start to doubt. Not impossible I've had the goods after that email but its also bee the start of a struggle to get amazon to supply.

Wake me up when it's all over.

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭PenguinForce

I checked the product page and the item is currently unavailable and have no estimate of when it will be in stock. Like, I remember when I order it there was 4 and it went down 3 immediately after I ordered. I would have thought it in stock unless that's a lie and they based on whatever the logistic algorithm they have to get a new shipment in before the delivery date to make more sales.

Yes, the order has been charged onto my credit card. I was offered to do a refund by cancelling the order by the second agent I contacted. Can I do a refund without cancelling the order like you mentioned?

On another note. My other two items got an email on Saturday with a estimate delivery date of between tomorrow and Thursday. I don't think this was a coincidence. I was told by the first agent they wanted deliver all items at once. And now that I got no estimate for the laptop I think they want to deliver the other items first…

Honestly I am thinking of cancelling the whole order next week if I don't get a dispatch. Only reason keeping me from doing it already is that I can't find the laptop else where with cheaper price and also there aren't many places to order from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,332 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

Don't cancel - assuming you still want the item. But the fact they have charged your credit card is another stick to beat them with. The fact they are holding on to your money at least means they have some intention of delivering.

They can't say when you will get a delivery date therefore they are not in a position to sell you the item so should refund the money to your account the fact they took it means they thought they could fulfill the order. But once taken I don't think there is a mechanism for them to refund without you cancelling.

Don't know why but I've never been charged for an item that they couldn't give me a delivery date for until it was dispatched.

Wake me up when it's all over.

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭PenguinForce

This is a gift so I don't want to cancel it and there are also no stock. Would be a shame if I did and then price goes back up when it comes back into stock. I feel like they got me by the balls. Currys have this laptop for online order but they are charging at least €500 more and I rather not deal with Currys.

I thought that as well regarding only charging when the item dispatches. They charged me for the whole order on the day of the first estimated delivery date for the laptop which was last Tuesday. I placed the order the Wednesday before. So I'm not sure whether their system thinks is able to ship so they charged or they have automated system that charges the card after certain amount of days has passed and just let the customer refund by cancelling.

I read a couple of stories online about people sometimes get their order auto cancelled after a few delays. But most of them I heard about are in the US so not sure if they operate slightly differently. Maybe the cost of the item is worth them not cancelling my order or they know they shipments soon. I guess no way to know other than go by what the agents say.

Amazon usually don’t charge until item is about to dispatch BUT earlier this year they did it to me. A new BD set that sold out really quickly. Scalpers were charging up to £100 for it.

So I said I’d try Amazon anyway. When I ordered it said “1-2 months for delivery” which usually means there is an issue obtaining more stock. However I was charged the following day (went from pending to an actual debit within 2 days). But the delivery date didn’t change & item never shipped. After a week of getting the run around from robotic, dishonest & disinterested staff I got a refund. Thankfully HMV’s Ebay store had one left so I went there.
