Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Like I said earlier I didn't rate S1 too highly either on it's own merits or (less so) as a Halo show and S2 had started so much better. Ep 4 ' Reach ' was obviously always going to be a pivotal moment and while I wasn't crazy about some of the narrative changes or the end scene disconnected CGI I think it did okay. I was interested to see how they could align some of the core changes with the apparent intent to return to the mainline story.

Ep 5 though - Utter... UTTER crap in every way. A pointless filler episode that harkens back to the worst sins of S1. The production, script, character devolution and pointlessness of it was just unbelievable. And this right after I'd advised a family member/Halo fan to finally start watching the show (treating S2 as the start)...I feel dirty. Please let this one be an anomaly...

Edit: Oh and also we are now 1.5 seasons and 14 episodes into the Halo show and THERE'S NO FKN HALO. It was there in the first 30 seconds of the first game (one of the best intros to any game ever, and the remastered end-scene for the Reach prequel game). Jesus.

No one's complaining about the lack of a helmet now. Lol ..

It's a bit mad that 3 of the main characters are played by Irish actors.

While I'm liking the season so far, one weak part is Kessler and that story.

So how is Makee alive? A clone and that's why she doesn't have the gift?

Its better, less sitting around talking about feelings but still lacking.

Gave this another go after only getting through a few episodes the last time. Actually enjoyed season 1 and 2 is just as good and equally bad. The B plots are just terrible in both as are the non army/ONI characters.

Hope they cut the crap for the rest of the season and get him back in the suit and back in the fight

That was a great finale, hopefully it gets a third season

How was Miranda not infected considering her exposure? Just seemed strange the outbreak was happening, supposedly due to that lab, yet everyone seemed to be casually working in the lab.

Still no explanation for Makee being alive.

Dunno if Kai is still alive. Or was her floating there meant to show her dead?

Great finale - so much better season than the first

But damn - every time I see Fiona O'Shaughnessy I keep thinking it's Noomi Rapace, dunno what it is, maybe the eyes, the accent...

So strange hearing all the Irish accents in this.

    A very good season finale.

Miranda never touched it. But ya it was nonsense that she didn't see the carnage outside.

Great ending, proper bad ass having those Sangehili getting downed and then with the Arbiter.

Much better CGI in this episode compared to earlier.

Would have liked to see a bit more of the space battle tbh. Also while the show is about the chief, it paints the Spartan 3s as pretty much standard soldiers.

Spartan 3's were just standard soldiers. Calling them Spartans was just propaganda.

Was surprised with the outcome of the final fight.

Brillant show! Can't wait for season 3. Hopefully it'll be spring 2026, a part of me hopes it'll be late 2025 but unlikely. I'm sure Kai is still alive and we'll see her and Riz back in season 3.

Finished S2. Hell of an improvement on S1. Still quite different from the games but it was just more cohesive and consistent and the last few episodes were super fun.

Ep5 was a major clanger though, they seriously need to stop injecting those utter drivel z-plots like Soren and his missing son. I had to actually stop my friend from fast forwarding those scenes.

Re: Spartan III, in the Halo lore they're augmented like Spartan II, but in the show they are just regular soldiers given armour. In Halo Reach, Noble Team are Spartan III for example.

Late to things, but recently went through both Season 2 of this and Discovery's final season over the last couple weeks.

Whereas one was complete rubbish, even with low expectations and was watched just to see how bad it could get, I was somewhat surprised by Season 2 of Halo. Much improved over Season 1 and I found myself surprisingly engaged by Schreiber, sans armour. It's far from perfect, with a lot of action scenes still relying on close camera on rotate etc, plus the Kwan storyline is a slog at the best of times, but it was a lot of fun. Dragged the Soren/wife/son thing a wee bit long but acted a filler to carry the characters to where they needed to be.

Not bad at all, in a casual viewing kind of way.

Halo Cancelled at Paramount+ After 2 Seasons, Will Seek New Home

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,692 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Well that sucks - S2 was so much better, but its Paramount so no surprise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,170 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Better but still absolutely full of crap in between the good bits. The Kwan and Soren storylines were absolutely terrible and they botched the chance to be rid of that stupid human bad guy after season 1. All 3 of them should have been dumped after the disaster of season 1.

Hopefully it finds a new home. Apple or Amazon maybe.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Season 2 was substantially better than Season 1.

They had much books and game lore they could have used instead of those stupid story arcs .

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

Its mad how people still don't have the cop on or have the hubris to think they can do their own interpretation of a much loved IP. Like just stick to the core lore and feel of the original. The fall of Reach episodes were great because they felt like Halo but the rest was muck. It wasn't Rings of Power level bad but I still watched with the same feeling that I would be a better TV executive than the people who signed off on the glaring red flags in these shows.

Season 2 was a big improvement on Season 1. But it was still stuck with the problem of crap b-plots dragged over from Season 1.

It's not so much that it wasn't based on the games. And having said that, obviously the games present a ready made, classic and rock solid sci-fi story.

But original shows are made all the time and of extremely high quality. The Halo TV show could've gone a completely different direction and still have been a good TV show in its own right with decent writers.

But it wasn't. It was crammed full of awful storylines and horrible filler, making up to 50% of the season, that weren't compelling, well executed, well scripted or just generally interesting in the slightest.

I mean look at Fallout. Yes, it's very faithful to the general game lore, but it's nothing whatsoever to do with the storyline of the games, it's a fully original story the writers came up with.

There's no reason for how bad the Halo TV show turned out, and really not being faithful to the games isn't the biggest problem is has, not even close.

Am I happy it's cancelled, no, but I'm not surprised.

One look at Neil Blomkapf's Halo Landfall, or even the ODST and Reach live-action ads, and you get a far better idea of what a Halo TV show should've been in terms of style and tone, even if it radically departed from the storyline in the games.
