    Our policy was a life policy assigned to the bank so continued on after the mortgage was cleared. I still have it, but as we're getting older it won't amount to a huge amount if one of us dies.

    I always find it strange that a supposedly happy couple dont bother getting married. Makes no sense financially/legally or from a tax point of view. If your committed to each other just get married.
