Sure what can you expect from MLMD, next week she will be trying to tell us about the great relationships PSF have across the border and into the UK.

As I have said many times, if people want a United Ireland the longer PSF are involved the longer it will take, remove the and their bickering it will speed up the process.

Sure, Sammy Wilson, Jamie Bryson, Jim Allister etc are all just waiting for us to cheer on England.

The lack of nuance and understanding is 'morto' as somebody said to Pippa Hackett.

Saw that. Things have changed in Ireland. Its no longer cool to declare your hate form England. A lot of people were not impressed with her.

More whataboutery. Start a thread about Sammy Wilson cheering on England, nobody else will care.

MLMD came across like a petulant child with her tweets about the final.

Not a single tweet or statement from any Shinner on the riots in Coolock. The wind is swirling around at a greater pace. The forces of good and evil are lining up, with the government parties on the side of the good - reasoned approach to immigration, and the forces of evil - the far-right - on the other side, complaining of lack of communication, "peacefully" protesting, intimidating workers, all the usual tricks of the trade. Where will Sinn Fein land on this?

I can tell you one thing for certain. MLMD will be dog-whistling for certain next week, ticking off the far-right boxes, on how people have a right to protest, how "consulation" (i.e. veto) hasn't been enough, etc. etc.

Decent ordinary people will see straight through her.

    Not sure about that

I watched the match in a packed west cork pub and there was a huge cheer for both spanish goals and at full time

Same happened when Kerry lost 🤣

There is a massive difference between me declaring disdain for England and its fans and its media and hoping they lose, than MLMD doing it on social media. She has a responsibility to be discreet and measured.

Your assertion that its not "cool" is hard to back up, but it remains just as popular!

    More whataboutery.

Take it up with the poster who introduced the notion that a UI is contingent on us supporting England.

You were signalling a turn to the far right by SF before the LE's and the drop in their support BTW.

As FG and FF and the Greens have turned to the right on immigration I am certain sure SF will continue demanding that the rules and regs are properly and fairly enforced and that the appalling way the government is housing these people (or not) without local consultation must change.

I.E. the lack of proper enforcement and communication being the reason we are where we are.

Of course we will have the government supporters lining up next week to call that 'far right' and 'dog whistling', that's about all they have at this stage of the mess.

BTW, nothing unusual in your attempts to deceive but SF have called out what is happening in Coolock in the strongest possible terms.

Sinn Féin councilor Daithí Doolan described the protest in Coolock as “horrific” and expressed alarm a convicted criminal was prominent in encouraging people to take part.

He questioned what seemed to be a “hands-off approach” by gardaí and did not accept the arson attacks were not connected, saying political actors were “fanning the flames” behind the scenes.

Mr Doolan called for a Garda strategy to “undermine these people and shut them down”.

To be fair,Daithí Doolans condemnation is welcome but theres a secondary motive to it

Sinn Féin want rid of this parasite tri colour waving anti immigrant right wing organised type of protest as its canibalising their vote

On the nail there, the Shinners had all those lads and lassies in their own bailiwick before these right wing groups started surfacing.

It is part of a politicians job to build bridges with nearest neighbours, and could we really trust Mary Lou and her comrades if they were in power?

It is a few years since it became well known there were no fewer than 10 members of England’s 2022 World Cup squad who could have represented the Republic of Ireland.

    https://www.sportsjoe.ie/football/england-world-cup-ireland-276828

And yet MaryLou's hatred of the English meant she would prefer support a side - any side - than the neighbouring team these 10 men played (at some stage) for.

    Pathetic.

Let us hope she never forms a government anyway.

Spain are an EU member state, like ourselves, so they should be supported more surely? Also remember the backing we got from Spain in Brexit negotiations which would have directly aided the SF position…

Seems that in a UI or even now, good relations means being an Irish sycophant. We must support England in football publicly even if we don't want to. 😁

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,194 ✭✭✭Red Silurian

It would be nice if we supported our own country and our own teams before we look to foreign teams. But that's probably a discussion for the sports forum, not here

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,842 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

I think we got an indication of where SF are going on policy last night on Prime Time in Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire's discussion with the handwaving away Barry Ward FG.
He seemed to be saying that what is required is a formal process when establishing centres for accommodation with proper consultation with communities and provision of resources if they don't exist. Ward, of course denied that there was no consultation/communication.
On Tonight on TV3 Joan Burton was saying more or less the same thing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 27,900 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

And in the meantime, let them sleep in tents, is that the SF solution?

Will the formal process have to go to ABP and take two/three years?

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,842 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

The question was asked and Ward immediately did what you did, assumed the worst case scenario and tried to scaremonger.

The answer was predictably more sensible and devoid of scaremongering - a formal process need only take a short amount of time, the outcome of it was the important thing- a platform for people to have their concerns and needs properly addressed. Guess whose back went up when that was suggested?

  • Registered Users Posts: 27,900 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

As usual, the Sinn Fein idea lacked details, coherency and common sense. Nothing changes.

Edit: And of course, the usual dog-whistling approach to the objectors. Everyone knows that this is just can-kicking.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,842 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

We know the right and far-right are in favour of imposing their will on everyone. That was more or less what Ward was proposing - i.e. you can't allow communities a say.
Basically Ward had 'no solutions' on how to avoid Coolock's or Dundrums.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,362 ✭✭✭pureza

SF need to stem the vote canibalisation by these tricolour waving, tricolour hi jacking imposters untill after the election and thats what the 'discussion' process is about

The solution to the problem is actually to close the border and build a detention centre for a few 1000 policed by the idle army ,then deport the unsucessful en masse as still as their applications are rejected
